    This scene shows how much research and thought Sam Reid put into portraying the essence of Anne Rice’s Lestat character. She wrote how Lestat would break into maniacal laughter at the most inappropriate times and other vampires hated it. Also we can see his mind working, he realises the consequences of what he is saying and the instant regret upon this realisation. We should be applauding Sam Reid’s acting masterclass of many scenes in this series. I am watching this series in absolute awe of his talent.

      By that time, Sam had reread most, if not all the books, while Jacob only read the first two. He actually talks about how amazing it was to have Sam there to talk about Anne Rice's writing and all these vampires, or so he said in an interview once. And Sam said that him laughing in his scene is basically Lestat's brain short-circuiting because Louis is trying to tell him that he loves him, and we all know that processing strong emotion properly really isn't Lestat's strong suit.

    The way Lestat laughed at Louis for actually expressing something he is deeply insecure about...a lot of people hop right over that moment like it that couldn't have wrecked Louis internally. And then Lestat made fun of him not eating humans. Lestat is SO toxic.

    • @melsaint8616
      @melsaint8616 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @fizzychizzy I can never understand this laugh, the best I can figure is that once again he is making light of a very real concern that Louis have, that he would not be enough to keep Lestat interested, while Lestat is thinking in terms of the eternity they have to spend together and that they would need different things to keep the relationship fresh, but laughing at that moment was very telling, that he doesn’t fully see Louis. Had I been Louis , I would have been pissed and hurt. And I’m glad that the whole thing came back to bite Lestat in the ass. 😂

    Lestat is promiscuous and hedonistic, it is known. But when Louis enters his life, he has prepared a life for the two of them, in a vampiric way. The house has been carefully decorated to be a cozy and romantic vampire home. The problem is that Louis does not accept his reality, he does not let go of humans. Louis feels, deep down, guilty for being a vampire and what's more, being married to a white man, which is why he doesn't see Lestat as family and feeds on animals, offending his husband. Lestat, in turn, out of hurt, releases his promiscuous side to hurt Louis back. But his dream is to live for eternity with Louis, his prince, being loved by him and sucking human blood, naturally. A peaceful life for a couple of predators.

      In an interview, Sam Reid mentions how Lestat always talks about his uncontrollable laugh in the books that always seem to come out at the wrong moments.
      When Louis tells him, “Aren’t I enough?” it’s all that he’s ever wanted to hear from him because he’s yearned for his affection for so long. Lestat thought that it had always been painfully obvious that *of course* he is. He chose him. *Unfortunately* because of his idiosyncratic nature, this sentiment comes off as maniacal laughter that tends to rub people off the wrong way, as wonderfully portrayed by this scene.

    • @HadenGregory
      @HadenGregory ปีที่แล้ว +29

      It is sad that Lestat is so manipulative to Louis, but I think it's wrong to say he's the same as the ordinary prejudiced white people. Lestat genuinely loves Louis, and thinks that Louis is superior and higher in status than anyone else... Except for himself. Lestat mistreats Louis, but his feelings about Louis are still very real. It's a toxic, borderline abusive love, but it IS love. Racists and prejudiced people have no love in their hearts when mistreating someone.
