    Yes I am aware of pet food recalls.
    This is why my #1 suggestion will ALWAYS be homemade cat food.
    I only make these videos because people ask me for commercial options.
    So why homemade? Because you have more control over the ingredients and how it's made.
    Sure, it takes more time. But I prefer to take that extra time to avoid worrying about recalls.
    That's exactly what pushed me to go with homemade cat food back in 2018/2019.
    The first raw cat food brand Jericho had was called RadCat.
    It was great - lots of protein variety, whole food ingredients, small batch company...
    Loved it until the FDA forced a recall and the business closed down.
    Then I had to scramble to find a new raw cat food. And there were not as many options back then!
    The next brand I found only had 2 protein options and lots of synthetic supplements.
    And guess what? They don't make cat food anymore either!
    Homemade cat food gives you way more control over your cat's diet.
    And now I'm switching Jericho to a whole prey diet (as of July 2024).
    So my content moving forward will reflect that.
    Until then, you can switch to raw using my course → stan.store/jesscaticles/p/switch-your-cat-to-raw-blueprint
    And then make homemade cat food with my other course → stan.store/jesscaticles/p/homemade-cat-food-starter-kit
    If those options don't work for you, I have 580+ videos here on this channel.
    It's up to you to figure out what works best for you and your cat 😽♥

    Don’t know what’s going on with Viva Raw lately. I have been feeding their raw blends since the beginning of this year. All my cats loved it, and it always looked fresh. But lately when I defrost a package the meat is already a brown color, like it was going bad before it was packed and frozen. My cats have been refusing to eat it, and the ones that did have gotten extremely sick, throwing up everywhere. I’ve already had to throw away items that I’m just not able to clean. Some of the 2 lb. packs had holes in them, and some the plastic shrink wrap didn’t stick to the meat, and it was the same as just sticking it in a plastic bag. I don’t know if they’re using cheaper wrapping to save money, or there’s something wrong with the supplements they’re using to make it a complete and balanced food. Maybe they don’t have enough help, and food is going bad sitting around before it’s processed. But, something is definitely wrong.

      They didn't have complete blends at the beginning of this year. Complete is new as of two months or so. So were you previously purchasing pure (no supplements added) and then switched to complete (with supplements added)? Could be why your cats got sick.
      As for holes in the packaging, they are working to replace the packaging to prevent holes (as I discussed in the video). But this is not specific to Viva Raw. This can happen during transit with any type of frozen food. This even happens to my food when I'm traveling from the farmers market.
      I'd suggest reaching out to them and provide pictures of what you're talking about. They value their customer's feedback and that's exactly why they changed their packaging.

    My cat tried the complete version but she is not a fan. Viva was out of stock of the pure so this is why we switched. I worry about her not eating enough. I'm thawing complete rabbit in hopes she will eat that. She is veeery picky when it comes to food!

      hey i have very picky cats too, all they want is kibble. how did it go with the complete rabbit? does your cat like the pure better than the cat complete? i'm even thinking of giving them dog complete because my cats kibble has veggies in it so i think my cats likes veggies

    My cats are transitioning very well to raw and they are currently eating Stella and Chewy's frozen raw in duck duck goose with Primal Pronto turkey. I hope you can do some review about these brands too

      I have reviewed these brands and many other freeze dried raw in the past. But I chose not to recently because both these brands are not on Susan Thixton's 2023 list. Brands on her list are the only brands I will review moving forward.

    Important to note that CKD cats can't have the bone and they don't make a food with a supplement for the bone.

    What is best for a 19-20 year old cat, who is aging very fast now. Wasting away. She is a fur covered skeleton now. Sleeps all day, hasn't caught a mouse in years, stands staring off in space. She doesn't have much time so I am thinking of getting some better food so she enjoys her last days more. She has lost most of her hearing, and has difficulty using the stairs. I have to go get her for meal time and usually carry her to her food. I have been taking her outside in the Sun, but she would rather sleep.
    She hasn't liked to go outside since nasty neighbors moved here, and began letting their aggressive poorly trained dogs loose. Imagine how a dog behaves when the owner is an alcoholic, SSRI addict, and a narcissist. Not the dogs fault, but a problem dog for sure.
    As thin as BB is now, I expect to find her not breathing any day :-(

    This may sound crazy, so here goes. My daughter has two pit bull mix. They are both rescues. Can I make beef bone broth for my cats if the dogs have chewed on them first? Chewed on the bones, not the cats! LOL

    • @jesscaticles
      @jesscaticles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LOL I'm sure that would be fine considering it's recommended to roast the bones before you make broth with them. Not sure how much marrow will end up in the broth though. Most dogs suck them clean!

    Hi Jessica, I'm feeding my cat Viva raw and he ate it for a couple of weeks but now he doesn't even want to touch it and I have to put tons of treats on top of it for him to even eat some of it any suggestions? He seems to only like the Turkey not the chicken and not the beef. 😒

    • @jesscaticles
      @jesscaticles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What type of treats are you using? I hope not crunchy carb treats! If you're using those I'd suggest moving to freeze dried raw treats instead. Gradually wean off the carb treats. If fd treats, gradually wean off those too. Cats are creatures of habit so you don't want him to get used to the treats and rely on that only. Give him time.. cats need patience. As for other proteins try mixing a tiny tiny tiny amount and gradually increase each day... put the new food on the bottom of the food he does it... put the food next to it so he associates it with meal time and eventually he will eat it. Stay positive and not doubtful too. That goes a loooooong way!

    • @dianar9429
      @dianar9429 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jesscaticles I give him only freeze dried treats, but sometimes he wont even eat that.

    • @dianar9429
      @dianar9429 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jesscaticles also, what do I do if he won't eat? I don't want him to lose weight because he has IBD. By the way, his Internist is against the raw food, so she is not happy and wont take him off of the steroids that he is on for his IBD....sigh

      Most cats are reluctant to new foods. They are all very picky about changes! Additionally, cats are sensitive to food changes. So we have to switch to new foods slowly. Please use my transition guide to help them adjust to the new food slowly: www.caticles.com/feed-cats-naturally/. If you are already feeding wet/raw, you can jump here: www.caticles.com/upgrade-food/
