    Thank you Jess you're idea of crumbing the freezedry raw gave me an idea to ween my cat off kibble. (She's 12 and she refuses to eat anything else) Took me 2 weeks but now she happily eats the Quest freeze dry raw food! Started off by crumbling then added a nugget in then 2 then 3 then she accepted one as a snack & now she loves the food.

      I homemake our cat food for 16 cats for one meal per day, and they get kibble one meal a day. I follow Dr Karen Becker DVM. I use a wide variety of meats, depending on what is on sale. It takes approximately $130. a month for dried kibble for every single meal. I can decrease that by buying only one large bag of kibble and using human grade ingredients to make their evening meals to last for the whole month. I add vitamins, and taurine in a salt shaker just before serving. I’ve never made a meal they didn’t eat. The age range is from 2-15 years old. And I’ve geared my recipes towards a higher water content for aging kidneys. I always make my own chicken broth and save it to put over their food when I heat it up. You can homemake cat food for the same cost as a good quality dried kibble. And that eliminates the unhealthy ingredients in dry food, such as preservatives, binders, artificial coloring and flavoring. It’s easier than you think, and I have a houseful of hungry land sharks! ❤

    Great video. Jericho and The Voice, keeping us informed! I like your shirt. Is that your design, I didn't see it on your website. Colbie and Panda get a tin of sardines, once a week. Hello Jess & Jericho! 🐾❤️🐾
    I am on my fourth month of transitioning both of my extremely finicky adult rescue cats. I am completely sold on “Raised Right!” My 5 year old male has always had digestive problems since rescuing him, I have changed his food 3 times. He was on the verge of severe IBD. I went against my veterinarians advice and was shocked with her advice to change him originally from Wellness Core to Royal Canin Digestive Health. 😩
    Since ordering Raised Right (using your discount code Tysm) he has just completely improved in everything. 🙏
    My 8 year old female rescue has also shown improvement! 🙏
    Both cats are at 80% - 20% and although these two are hyper finicky, I can’t even imagine going back to any commercial brand cat food. I hope to get them both at 100% in the next few months but just as you stated in this video, they’re both prone to fish argh lol 😂
    I am going to try and mix both “Raised Right,” & “Just Food For Cats.” 🐾❤️🐾
    Tysvm Jess! You have helped me to understand the labels and how I can help improve my cats lives! ❤
    I’ll definitely support your mom! ❤

Upgrade your cat food quality. Purina One canned and dry, is a good brand. Most cat food brands are low quality, thats why you pay less. 🐈 Coyote attacks on Outdoor cats and traffic fatalities are on the rise, so keep your cat Indoors. 🐾
      If you have a senior cat, bring it in for a full senior blood panel. it’s a quick, easy way to assess its basic all around health, while its still early. Our cats can live healthier & longer. 🐱

      I don't like that they add it, but unfortunately these inorganic phosphates are in many commercial foods. Even some freeze dried raw! I love the options here, great video! I guess the Smalls company is not persistent on their products which is a huuuugggge problem I think. The only options right now are either grounded or smooth. There is no shredded, there are no broths or anything like that available as of this moment (April 2023) so the fact that they can't be trusted to consistently have the same products available is a big issue if your cat ends up liking this product and then all of a sudden that product is no longer available... So far we've only tried the grounded and my cat won't touch it. But she's liking the "just food for cats" brand a bit more. I question Smalls brand, only because if your cat becomes reliant on this product there is a big chance that the product may not be available anymore, and that's just too big of an issue for me to ignore. Thank you for your great video! You're content is so very helpful! 🙏❣️

    • @jesscaticles
      @jesscaticles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for sharing your concern! I would say though, changing textures/products/etc. is not unique to smalls. Every cat food company does it at some point. That's why variety in protein and brands you use is key! Instinct recently just changed their formula, orijen/acana got bought out by mars the candy bar company, and nom nom now used to make cat food and stopped altogether. Unavoidable until you make your cat's food at home - that's why homemade is my top suggestion (:

I'm taking it slowly (and notes) because as you pointed out some of the above options are not for kittens. I slowly but surely got my boy over to freeze dried raw.
    He has always been a wet food boy but did enjoy crunchy treats when he first came to me.
    Got him eating the freeze dried dry(as treats and free feed) and slowly integrated it rehydrated.
    Now it's three out of his four meals a day.
    I rehydrate it when it's feeding time and don't store it rehydrated.
    Took some time but was well worth it.
    Expensive 😂 but till I can get him on homemade raw it's worth it, he's worth it.

Can you elaborate more about this, as nature and wilderness lack pretty much of these two factors? I also remember once discussing about food with another cat lover in regards of those seeds that companies add to cat food, where my point of view was " cats do not go to hunt chia seeds, etc" , but she said " Cat eats birds, and those birds have seeds in their stomachs at the time of being eaten. Your feedback is very much appreciated. Regards

      Thank you! And great questions! Cats prefer routine for the exact reason you mention- nothing is guaranteed in the wild. So if they stick to the same routines of hunt, groom, sleep, repeat they are less likely to run into issues. They typically patrol the same territory and have their usual spots. This can help decrease any detrimental surprises.
      As for seeds, yes birds eat seeds and other plants and then cats eat the birds. However, this is different from eating raw seeds. The bird and other prey digest the plants or at least pre digest the plants before the cat eats it. So I think the closest we would get to this is sprouting seeds and fermenting veggies. Many doctors that support the carnivore diet for people talk about toxins in plants. But they say if we are going to eat them the best way is to sprout and ferment because it kindof mimics that predigestion and apparently can get rid of some toxins.

  • @janislevy1ify
    @janislevy1ify 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you Jess! I'm going to transition my two cats from kibble and wet food. I like the information you share very much so I've subscribed to your channel.
    There is something I'd like to address. Human-grade ingredients, low carb, and BPA free packing are all very important, but far from enough! I especially have a big problem with "human grade". A HUGE problem! Because most of the HUMAN GRADE food sold in the U.S. for human is harmful. And so would also apply to our pets. The birds, mice and lizards, etc. that cats catch and eat in the wild aren't raised in cages, injected with hormones and antibiotics, and fed genetically engineered grains. The fish they eat in the wild aren't farm-raised, fed genetically engineered soy pellets. A great majority of meat sold for humans in the U.S. is from animals raised and fed in those ways. 😢 I would not feed my cats any food that is only "human grade". 😢 Yet in your videos you always say a food is human grade as if that's great. Of course, it's A LOT better than cat food with animal by-products, etc. But it's not that great all by itself. Yet, you said in the video when refering to "Human Grade", "You can't really beat that." 😢
    Uh uh! We must "beat that" for the sake of our cats' health! I'm looking for key phrases like "cage free", "pasture raised", "grass fed", "wild caught". ❤ Those mean a great deal to me and should be important for anyone choosing food for their pets. (As well as for themselves and their families, which includes pets because they're family, too.)
    The USDA organic label or saying organic carrots, organic pumpkin (examples), on the ingredient list is also important because many cat foods include vegetables, sometimes fruit. And most of the vegetables and fruits grown and sold in the U.S. are not organically grown. They're grown and/or harvested using toxic pesticides, like glyphosate. 😢 And grown with artificial fertlizers. 😢 There can also be biosolids and/or toxic wastewater in the soil. 😢
    I don't think I'm going to find anything I can buy for my two cats ❤ that will fit all this criteria and not be dry or wet food or ultra expensive. Currently feeding them Tender and True wet and dry cat food, but will be changing that little by little. Will look into Raised Right, Quest, Viva Raw and Hair Today (not Raw Feeding Miami because of the farms!). But, will probably need to prepare their food myself. And that's OK, too. You have lots of videos about doing that. Thanks! ❤
    Although you don't talk about things that I think are very important in pet food (and human food) (hope that you will in the future), I like your videos and learn a lot! ❤😃

      I had some bad experiences with Smallbatch and recommend against it. They don't do a good job of grinding the bones of the larger animals such as lamb. I took the lamb bag back to the store I bought it from after finding huge bone chunks. The store owner acknowledged it was a known problem he'd been discussing with them. I went to just feeding chicken and rabbit, and my cat, who had been periodically vomiting but supposedly not so much it was a big deal according to the vet, had an emergency involving heavy repeated vomiting and then passing out. I was terrified she was going to die, and then I was terrified all over again when I saw the $4500 emergency vet bill. I immediately switched to another brand (Smalls) and she's had zero problems since. On paper, Smallbatch seems like the better option since it's raw and it doesn't have the canola oil. But in reality, our experience was the opposite.

    • @Elderscrolls45
      @Elderscrolls45 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My experience has been really good so far. I am curious as to why you would care if bones are not grinded into small pieces (having said that the ones I got are grinded), cats are used to eating their prey whole.. Unfortunately it seems your cat is having problem with the food or is allergic to it in some way.

    • @parrotperson1973
      @parrotperson1973 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Elderscrolls45 Cats don't eat lamb and beef in the wild. The bones are larger and harder than actual prey like mice and songbirds. I would care anyway, but I especially cared because my cat, as I mentioned, was vomiting periodically. That's great that your cat is doing well on this food, but not only wasn't mine, but the owner of Central Dawgma, where I purchased the food, has had multiple other complaints. My cat is not the only one.

    Just one question. Why are we all soooo concerned about what we feed our cats or dogs when we hit the grocery store for chips, cola, icecream, fast food, etc. We don't eat a balanced meal day after day, we eat a diverse diet. I know cats need to eat a species appropriate diet, in the wild they don't get a balanced diet each day. They eat what they can catch that day. So, isn't it better to feed our cats a variety of protein sources and a good vitiman mineral supplement?

    The pet food industry is sickening and it's all based on recent "fads". Some Cat foods are better than others just like anything just make sure the top ingredients are "quality" ingredients. Most of the time you get what you pay for. Also some Cat foods might be more expensive and have terrific ingredients but also can be too rich for your Cat. The problem with making you own raw food at home is that you may end up with an imbalance or "lack of" a specific nutritional requirement. Just because it's "raw" doesn't mean you Cat isn't going to still end up with health problems. There is no "purrrfect" Cat food out there. I've seen Cats live long lives on low cost food and high end food.

    I would not feed my cat any of those brands, because cats are obligate carnivores and do not eat peas or carrots or yucca root. What I do is I buy raw turkey, raw chicken thighs, raw chicken breast and raw chicken livers along with some clam juice for moisture. Then I run it through a meat grinder. Then I will mix in some pink salmon and a can of sardines in water. Stir it all together and feed. No plant based anything in there. What is left over I will freeze for later use. I understand some people actually feed there cats a vegan diet. I think these people should be brought up on charges for animal cruelty. I know that cats in the wild will eat the stomach contents of a mouse, so I'm not totally against a low level of carbs for cats, I just choose not to as I think it's contraindicated in a feline diet. I have 3 very healthy cats all from the same litter. 2 males are in excess of 12lbs. and lean muscle mass and Molly the female is around 10lbs. All very healthy. Overall great video! Thanks!

My vet says I should use Hills Science Diet or Royal Canin, but they EXCLUSIVELY (you can't buy it except thru vets).
    But...just look at the ingredients...
    I should be eating their cat foods, with a lot of veg, fruits and grains. Seriously, I'd probably be healthier

      Okay, I just discovered that a massive profit-driven company bought Champion, so maybe not anymore

      RC and Hills killed my cat from pancreas cancer and my other cat is now pancreatitis. Don’t listen to the vet when it comes to food for your cats.
