About Apple computer pricing, Apple has historically priced their computers very high because it always sold something that no-one else was selling. In the 1980s, it was the only one with a graphical interface. Apple knew that if you did not want to use a computer typing command line, you would pay the premium Apple wanted to charge. You can find many Apple internal documents where Apple specifically decided and knew that they could charge more than IBM compatibles. Many times Apple engineers wanted to build cheaper Mac to increase the market share, but management would artificially keep the prices high because they knew people would pay for that special thing that Apple exclusively had. Then Windows became a good graphical interface and Apple struggled for a long time, until Steve Jobs made Apple cool and for a while that was the unique Apple thing that people paid a premium for. Now, Apple has the most efficient SoC, delivering the fastest computers at the lowest voltage/longest battery life. With the M4, Apple keeps up this long tradition of offering something that no-one else is offering, so if people want the top CPU, they will pay the Apple tax to get it. But instead of just pricing Macs very high like before, the new thing that Apple is doing now is to price an entry level Mac at a very attractive "Low" price, but making sure that the entry level computers do not have enough RAM and SSD, and then charging you an arm and a leg to upgrade the entry level Mac to an usable level at a very high price. So for example, Apple actually wants to sell you a Mac Mini for $1799, even though a comparable Windows PC is just $800. So instead of pricing it at $1799, Apple makes an entry level Mac Mini priced at $599, but intentionally with low 8GB RAM (until recently, now 16GB RAM) and a very small 256GB SSD (still). The unsuspecting buyer sees the $599 price, then when the buyer upgrades the RAM and SSD to something that he/she wants (like 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD), Apple charges $400 for the additional 16GB RAM and $800 for the additional 1792GB of SSD storage, so the buyer ends up paying the $1799 Apple originally wanted to charge. To make this work, Apple designed the tech from the ground up so that you can upgrade RAM and SSD only from Apple by designing the RAM and SSD "soldered" into the SoC, even when Windows computers with upgradable/removable RAM and SSD modules have shown to be actually faster than Apple's all-in-SoC design. Apple has to build the tech from the ground up this way to have a plausible technical argument against the regulators, should the regulators complain that consumers have no choice to upgrade anywhere else. It is amazing how Apple has become the richest company in the world by making something everyone wants, then designing a scheme so that they can charge a premium/Apple tax, escaping the regular market forces of competition so that they can make huge profits. This way, Apple is double assured to make a huge profit, first by making products people want, then second by designing away the competition so that the technology does not work unless you upgrade only from Apple. (PS: At least now, people can buy a Mac for $599, a bit crippled with just 256GB SSD, but at least you are not locked out completely from an Apple computer like people were, like back in the 1980s - 2000s, when people could not pay the Apple asking high price of $1799. So I guess this is progress? I just wish Apple would make just some reasonable profits, so that consumers can choose the computer they really want, and not be financially coerced into buying a Windows PC just because a comparable Windows PC is $1200, and any reasonable person cannot justify paying $1799 for the Apple computer, knowing that you are paying $599 just in Apple tax. Apple, $200 for a 8GB RAM upgrade, when 8GB RAM retails for less than $20? $200 for 256GB SSD upgrade when it retails for less than $17.99? $800 for a 1792GB SSD upgrade? Just because Apple designed the tech so that it is impossible to upgrade anywhere else. And Apple's soldered on tech is not even superior, almost all windows laptops that use removable/upgradable NVMe M.2 SSD storage have faster read/write speeds).
As of M4, all base Mac products, including the Mini, come with 16GB of RAM as standard. I’m sure it will be the same for all their computer products once they move to M4.

I want to ask about something. I am a guy who bought a 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max, and it has been very good for me all these years. So, my question is, is upgrading to the M2 Max worth it? Because all I see is that there are just new ports and a new chip.
Might have been a typo, but I see you have written M2 Max. Also, it might very well be worth it depending on what you do, for example AI work could probably get a boost from the extra maximum unified memory and the memory bandwidth. The CPU is also really fast, even faster than the Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9950X (Those are both desktop chips btw)
Nice. Cant afford to go for M4 Max but due an upgrade after nearly 9 years. Going for 16 inch M4 Pro. I'm not getting it for gaming but out of interest, how would you say M4 Pro vs Max compares for graphics/gaming/fps etc? Thanks
CEX is good and all for your pocket and the environment. My only issue is that on two occasions they claimed my pixel 8 pro was a C grade because of a minuscule mark on the screen that not I or even they initially noticed but then sold the same phone as a B grade. They did the same with a Samsung Book 4 Pro 360 said it was B grade because the type C port I used to charge the device had a mark of the charger but then were selling the same device as A grade the very next day 😅😂. Needless to say the experience put me off.
Thank you for this review!!! I was wondering about the Cinebench 24 multi-core score and the heating due to more P cores. Depends on people's tolerance for heat, but it does provide great performance that beats the best non-Apple desktop CPUs.

My concern with the Nano-texture screen is that with their Studio Display they say you have to use their special (and expensive) cleaning cloth or you could damage the coating a void the warrenty, seeing as a laptop screen gets far more abuse than a monitor screen that would make me VERY weary on such an option. I miss the Space Grey option, but it's a testiment to Apple that my Space Grey M1 Max 64GB is still a screamer and does everything I need it to do.
Only thing missing is an oled display. How they can add it to their iPads, earlier this year. But not their laptops is crazy. Now the customers may have to wait another year or even 2 years. Four generations in and still no face ID in that huge notch that's basically pointless. But they upgraded the camera though. Don't really care about that. A brighter oled display is a must. But charging extra money for an anti reflective coating is crazy. 100 extra for iPads and 150 extra for macbooks? When Samsung do it for free
Tandem OLED technology has yield issues, so Apple is waiting for improvements before introducing it, particularly for the 16-inch models. This new OLED design requires careful development, as many laptop users may be quick to criticize Apple. Apple has never indicated that Face ID will be coming to Macs, and it seems unlikely that it ever will. Samsung's prices are steadily increasing, which means that features like anti-glare are included in the overall cost without clear pricing. In contrast, Apple allows you to choose these features: if you want them, you can pay extra; if not, you can save $150. With Samsung, you don’t have that option, and this lack of choice is not necessarily better.
@@andyH_England apple wouldn't introduce something that has issues. They have always waited and have taken their time, before releasing something. If not tandem oled, then oled in general should have been on these macbooks. I like that you don't need pro and max for the black colour, a third USB type c port and 16gb ram minimum. But I don't like the fact that you have to pay 150 extra for an anti reflective coated display. But if they are to keep this notch for a fourth year in a row. Then at least put face ID in there. Otherwise, what is the point of that design. If say the same for dynamic island. That's unevesarry too. Just have a small cut out right, right at the top of the display and do an almost bezeless design, all the way around. Including the bottom. I'm not a fan of the aspect ratio. Because you can watch movies better on Samsung tablets and laptops, because of the aspect ratio and the shape of their products. With this macbook or iPads, you get huge black bars, above and below the content you're watching. Something you get less of with Samsung. So, I would address that next. Aspect ratio, oled display and sorting out the notch, if they don't want face ID in there. But sooner rather than later, I'm hoping the anti reflective coating doesn't come at an extra cost. 16 inch macbooks are too expensive. You can get a top end 16 inch Samsung laptop for about £800-1000 cheaper and the battery life is even better than macbook. But only slightly. Samsung prices may be increasing, but they always do big deals. You get 15% student discounts. Anyone that's a student can pop up in the Samsung store and will, immediately pay 15% less than retail. They always offer deals like £300 off around this time of the year or 20% off most products. Even their flagship phones. You're able to get an s24 ultra 1tb for less price than the iPhone 15 pro max 256gb. Because Apple holds its value and Samsung prices go down and you end up getting more value for money. Main reason why I buy apple products immediately, because the price will remain high all year round. But I get a certain % off at apple anyway, as I have a friend working with apple in California. As well as Google too. But when I was a Samsung instead of a Google, I wait a little while and I end up paying half price in 5/6 months
It is so great to have completion in the computer market, things just keep getting better and faster !!! Gone are the days of Intel selling the same trash for 10 years !!

@@Thetechchap I get new tech is expensive, but apple assume they are untouchable and now it seems people just except the extremely high costs. Again there are options but it does bunch my shorts with apples eco system and prices
The pricing is super reasonable when compared to other pro equipment. The Max isn't priced for consumers but I don't think many consumers could make full use of it
These laptops can be price-compared to other premium high-end options, although the Windows machines may not perform as well. For professionals, where time is money, the higher price is justifiable. The base model features the M4 chip, which is suitable for consumers, while the M4 Pro chip is aimed at semi-professional users. Both models are priced fairly.
What about the greasy keyboard issue I wonder. Seems like a low cost fix from Apple to have better quality keys. Just wondering as it tends to help with resale value. Thank you
If Apple Continues to widen the gap with the upgrades on Macbooks each year and software support improves drastically, Windows laptops will be a very tough sale.
Under-display cameras are 2-3 years away, so Apple will keep this design until the redesign in Q4 2026. That redesign will hopefully also have Tandem OLED.
I wanted to wait until 2026 but last week my MacBook Pro died. So I’m forced to now upgrade to the new M4 MacBook Pro which means I’ll miss out on the best MacBook in 2026
Comparing to a 285K feels a little disingenuous since almost every reviewer said that chip was ass. Not saying that the M4 chips are bad or anything or that they couldn’t beat the actual top PC desktop chips, just saying it feels like not the fairest comparison. 8:35
The M3max already had thermal paste issue, the new M4max should be repasted by the user itself as it clearly doesnt work well. APPLE UPGRADE YOUR CHOICE OF THERMAL PASTE!

At 10:49, what app is that for the temp monitor? I use iStatistica Pro, but I like your interface better.
Webcams look exactly the same to me. Probably a good comparison would be in low light (were most webcams fall apart)
Is it worth spending money nowadays for year on year upgrades on any of the devices not only your laptops but your smartphones, headsets etc.
24hrs is for base model m4pro. Top model m4 max may be between 19-22
I'm not seeing much benefits so far against my current M1 Max for video editing but there's not many reviews out yet.
I went from fcpx to Davinci, so much better. Especially in file organization.
that's one CeXy video no doubt
Did you buy new white socks just for this video too! 😂
They are new!
Watching this on my M2 Pro 14 inch. I don't need it, I don't need it......
We need CEX review.
How is the text crispness on the nano texture?
Lots of concerns that it is a big compromise. However, that seemed to be based on nano-texture on other devices
Not at all, I have them both side by side here and it looks exactly the same
M4 Max is really interesting for just a small amount of people and we already know it's super powerful. Let's just compare M4 with M4 Pro for us, mere mortals.
I will, when I get a m4 pro model to test
Is it worth to buy non-nano texture and takşn en external matte protector or still worth 150 for the original one
Which one would be best for semi professional musik production ?
Thanks Johny Srouji (Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Technologies)
The best MacBook Pro is the base model.
It has 512GB of storage and 16GB of ram. The M4 chip is faster than a M1 Max.
You just managed to justify me purchasing the M1 MAX instead of the M4. Thank you!
glad i could help sir!
Thank god - no touchscreen. Imagine the keyboard grease on the screen
true!
Just don't use it? What's wrong with giving an option?
The prices. Insane. The Rich or business use only.
for the M4 Max spec, yep.
The M4 is faster than a M1 Max.
If you want a MacBook Pro go for the base model M4.
What about the greasy keyboard issue I wonder. Seems like a low cost fix from Apple to have better quality keys. Just wondering as it tends to help with resale value. Thank you
Can't wait to play Shadow of the tomb raider everyday for the next 7 years... So happy
Thanks for your Cex! hahaa
And thanks for uploading in 60FPS. This should be the industry standard now. Not the 24 or 30.
You're very welcome
If you're not uploading gameplay, there is no reason for any video to be high frame rate on TH-cam
@ eh
Too bad the keyboard still scratches the screen when closed. And no Wifi7 or OLED.
It doesn’t scratch the screen lmao
I would also love to have some Cex in my country
Fantastic performance but that fan noise is crazy. Worse than most windows machines
Would be fun if you use a 4090 with m4 max chip vs Ryzen 7 9800x3d with a 4090. I know it cant be done but it is a fun thought
True!
love Nero! Best Coffee this side of milan ?
I wouldn't go that far 😛
If Apple Continues to widen the gap with the upgrades on Macbooks each year and software support improves drastically,
Windows laptops will be a very tough sale.
so is it really a new chip or just the same chip running at a higher clock. hmm.
I want the notch gone before I will buy.
Under-display cameras are 2-3 years away, so Apple will keep this design until the redesign in Q4 2026. That redesign will hopefully also have Tandem OLED.
What is the autonomy in video viewing mode at full brightness?
I spec'ed this MacBook Pro 16 M4 Max and it comes to over 6 grand.
Yeppppp
I’ll buy an M1 Pro and enjoy performance of M4 in your reviews
MacBook 2026 will be the best MacBook in Apple history.
You compare with what rivals are offering--you don't say that Intel sucks, so don't compare them.
Please make a detail video on how to buy a used GPU in simple and easy language
I love you both guys the tech chap guy and his viewers.just reply by saying "hello".that would be enough for "ME" kind of people.plz 😔😔👇💝
How it's have been your daily driver for 2 years when M3 came out almost 1 year ago?!
I didn't say 2 years, did I?
0:32 the face 😆
Hello what cable do you use for you mbp for the pg32ucdm ? Hard to find one that is working well Thanks !
Any thunderbolt 3 cable is fine
The M3max already had thermal paste issue, the new M4max should be repasted by the user itself as it clearly doesnt work well. APPLE UPGRADE YOUR CHOICE OF THERMAL PASTE!
105 watts cpu.
Thats super power hungry apple silicon laptop i havebever seen
@ you know you re talking BS since the beginning🤡🤡
105w total laptop power draw you absolute unit of a brain.
48w for the cpu.
Please dont buy a new macbook, these are meant for highly intelligent people like me.
Stick to a M1air please
YOU ARE SOME OF THE ANCIENT DRAGON HUMAN TO BUILD A PC WITH NEW INTEL PROCESSOR U9 285K...AND WESTED YOUR MONEY... I HOPE YOU UPGRADE SOON...
we don't want thinner for fuck sake ... remember the Touch Bar MacBook pros
20W more power drain? ugh.... M4 Pro then!
Davinci Resolve Studio is far better than premier 😅
Preset Sir. ❤ From Mizoram, India

Niiice!
My Tech Chap!
That's me!
Looks like something I can spend money on.
Great performance. All great. The real question is why on earth do you have a Core Ultra 9 based desktop 😂😂
They sent me a review sample :P
Pc nerds whenever you don't have the most expensive and most powerful PC:
I'll better wait for m5 or m6 to get amoled display and dynamic island
Im going to the comments for this one and any reply is appreciated. I just purchased my 16in M3 Pro Macbook Pro with 36gb of RAM and 512 storage about a couple weeks ago. I can still return it and get all of my money back. Do I return this one and get the M4 or keep this one? I keep thinking about returning it because I can get all of my money back and get a better and newer device that will theoretically last me longer. Any opinions from anyone would be nice to hear from.
Return and get the equivalent M4 model for sure. No point paying the exact same price for worse performance imo. Plus if I’m not mistaken you’ll get a nice “free” ram bump up to 48gb…
@@derbob1234 yea that is what I was thinking. To get the 48gb verison i have to pay like $500 more but Im already in it for a lot because I got this one on sale
Another thing I want but cannot afford, yey
Has the Cex website crashed? crazy
How is the speaker?
Fantastic! Same as before though. Still best on the market.
space grey was always my favourite colour... boo.... T_T
watching on my m3 max macbook pro
3:01 I thought your blue cups were saying the N word 💀
