In 2004 I was 17 and homeless. I went to a friend’s on an offer of leftovers from his workplace. He had figured out this new thing called streaming, where you could use the internet to access a library of videos. His father was recently deceased, and he was pouring his time into learning IT. For some reason Pee Wee’s big adventure came up. We watched it and laughed til we cried. Really cried. Paul Ruebens gave us back our innocence that day. For 90-something minutes we were children again and all was safe and warm, and the world was a big exciting adventure. Thank you ❤️
PS sorry for bootlegging 20 years ago. I pay for media now.
That's a sweet story. I'm sure Paul would have been touched.
That was a good story. I agree, I think he’d have been moved.
Such a beautiful story thank you for sharing that.
RIP Pee Wee. Your character will live on forever. You always made me laugh.
My sentiments as well.
Same
Yea retarded humor please live forever!
Paul Reuben’s was so quick witted and fast thinking.
He was hilarious and could instantly come up with funny stories and had perfect comic timing.
He was really a fun guy to listen to in interviews
RIP Paul Reubens. Thank you for the childhood memories!
Those two child-like souls: sensitive, brilliant, captivating, funny and charming, to mention a few.
Great story. RIP Paul Reubens, always loved that guy.
The most creative guy, his character will live on forever!
I lived and worked in Sarasota, directly across from the Sarasota HS in the 1990's, and met several people who went to HS with Paul and told me he was a little "weird" but very funny, a true comedic genius, and had them laughing all the time. They also corroborated what Paul mentioned about his skills as a circus performer in this Conan episode. I would have loved to have met him and hung around to see what kind of characters he might have come up with during the course of the day. Alas, unfortunately, it never happened. RIP Paul, you will be missed.
I’m from Sarasota and the high school used to (and I believe may still) have a circus. Students learned and performed circus acts like trapeze and tight rope. Truly unique. By all accounts I’ve read - Paul Reubens was a kind and generous person.
You are correct. The HS did have those programs. I am not sure if they still do but a very good observation. Thanks for sharing it. ps I sure do miss Siesta Key@@44kickinit
Thanks for making us laugh and smile for so long, Paul.
Rest in Peace!
RIP Paul. Thank you for bringing laughter to an adult so many times!
"One of a kind" does not even scratch the surface!, what a truly unique and talented man with a genuine love for entertaining & teaching children and serving/giving for decades in several charities for children. RIP, Paul Reubens
Pee Wee Paul was an amazingly hilarious character. He was a 3 ring circus all by himself. I loved it . He died on my birthday.
I don't think Paul knows we still love him! No one cares about what happened. We love you still Paul!
He only got in trouble because that was the 80s and people were uptight back then. Gays couldn't even get married. The world has changed so drastically that they'd cheer him on if he did that today.
R.i.p. Pee Wee 💜🖤
@@problemchild6248 I KNOW! SO SAD!
@@Tonetarethat's not a good thing.
@@TonetareYeah right. You don't but other people do.
I love Paul Reubens. I wish he was in all the things.
Indeed! Should be mandatory.
Do you want him in you?😅
R.i.p. Pee Wee
Happy Birthday Pee Wee 💜🖤
Pee Wee (Paul) I so enjoyed how wonderful you and the joy you bought to the world, you are missed and loved.
Pee wee might have been our favorite badass clown but Paul was our favorite badass friend rest in heaven we love you
You cant help but like Paul, he was a great part of many childhood memories for a lot of people, would love to see a new movie with him!
Which is why the second Pee-wee Herman movie was called Big Top Pee-wee and the circus blows into his town and Pee-wee joins the circus.
No one is surprised you went to Circus Camp, sir. ❤
What an amazing comedian! So many great memories watching you! RIP Paul!
I love Conan. One of the kindest people ever.God bless you Conan. I love you Sir.
1st time I saw him was in a Cheech & Chong "🎥Next" & he slayed!!
So sad that he is gone.
All around sweet man was Mr. Reubens. 😢
Paul Reubens' talent was magical. And, Conan always gives respect where respect is due.
Genuinely funny and so kind hearted guy!
“Pee Wee’s Big Holiday” is the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.
R.I.P. Mr. Reubens.
Much Respect for my childhood and I'm 47 now lol.
Paul's Conan appearances were so awesome!
We miss you so much Paul.. thanks for the laughs
Fun fact: PEE-WEE’S bike was sold on eBay for about 30 grand
Did they have to ship it from the Alamo?
Seth Organ he was just having some fun!!
@@danielwalker26 Yeah, it was stored in the basement.
@Seth Organ What do you think an adult theater is for, the art of cinema? There wasn't many people in there and I'm sure he wasn't the only one with the gland in hand.
@Seth Organ If your idea of a free country doesn't include guys being allowed to jack off in a room together, well.... I want no part of it.
He always talks about how he looks too old to play Pee-Wee now and has to use effects to look younger when playing him, but honestly, he looks INCREDIBLE for being 66! He could pass for 40s easily.
This interview is from 2004.
So he would have been 50 here
He turns 68 in 2020, so he was either 51 or 52 here.
Get out of town
@@adamrees400 still looking amazing at 50's
His death really hit me. Couple days before they announced he died I was watching Pee-Wees Big Adventure. He was my childhood….😢😢😢
Me too. The Saturday before his passing something inside me made me want to watch pee wees big adventure.
The same man-I'm still mourning his loss. I've watched almost everything related to Paul Reubens over a million times. Honestly, I don't know if I've ever taken the loss of a celebrity so hard.
The Saturday before he passed, I thought about his Prince Gerhardt character where he said “Thank you. Thank you all dear friends FOR COMING TO MY BIRTHDAY!!!!”, and that prompted me to watch that entire clip from 30 Rock. At that moment, I wasn’t expecting to learn about his passing two days later.
I wasn’t an 80s kid (born in 1994), but I learned about Paul Reubens when I was 12 through Pee-wee’s Playhouse when it would air on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. There will never be another Pee-wee Herman or Paul Reubens. Thank you Paul for making me smile and laugh. RIP 🩶🤍❤️
just love that man. always have, always will
Rest in peace Pee Wee. I love you. I'll miss you.❤
I hope Paul can feel the outpouring of love for him. So many fans, young and old.
he can't. For you see, he is dead.
RIP Legend
Losing PeeWee and Sinead so close together has really done a number on my heart.
Truth
I'm surprised the DMV staff didn't tell him to get on top of the counter and Dance TEQUILA.👞
Better luck next time Dan

Funny
@@dfelixrx7 I wasn't trying to be funny you idiot.
I absolutely Loved Him! I will miss him Dearly. He will be missed by Millions & his closest friends. I met him once & he was so kind to me! His Kindness was amazing! The Sweetest Man in the entire universe! Just an Angel on earth. He was so nice & I'm so sorry that he is gone! He was Perfect & so Wonderful. Miss you Paul, Forever!😉😉🤨😉
When he referenced a sting operation at the DL office, I couldn't help but think of the sting he found himself in a long time ago 😬
I never noticed how much David Sedaris and Paul Reubens are alike. Not so much in look or sound but I could totally imagine David Sedaris telling this story.
Poor Paul. He got burned so bad at that porn theater in the 80's, that he's even afraid of a sting at the DMV!
Gosh 80s must have been super conservative. Because nowadays, jacking off and porn is as common as shaking someone's hand.
@@Tonetare Yes, but jacking off inside a cinema is not so common.
It was 1991 and you can’t blame him. If you already had your career destroyed you’re going to be on guard the rest of your life
The other day my 10 y/o son asked me who Peewee was. I couldn’t believe I haven’t showed him on TH-cam or watched a movie. So we pulled up the one on Netflix. We watched the whole thing and laughed. I looked at my boy and thought that’s how I felt the first time I seen Peewee. Now he’s riding his bike in Heaven. R.I.P. Peewee
Paul Reubens is incredible! ❤
If you want to hurt Paul, you have to go through me!
And me. Ive never even seen anything this guy has been in or made. But i know when some one is alright
I want a Paul Reubensaissance. I demand it.
Big Top Pee Wee is my favorite movie, I love that it's something he wanted to do real life if he'd never been an actor. Wonderful story, RIP Paul Reubens
it took guts for what he did it must have been tough im glad he made it
It's been years since I've heard his real voice. Thank you Conan.
Such a cool cat🖤🖤 RIP to an awesome actor thanks for sharing your talent. He is missed.
R.I.P. Mr. Reubens. Thank you for all of the laughs. You will be missed.
RIP Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens!!! What a great talent.
I'd rather sign 60 autographs than wait in the dmv lol

i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Kaiser Ahmad instablaster :)
@Omari Nolan I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Omari Nolan it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
@Kaiser Ahmad you are welcome :D
If I was Paul, at the end of that story I would have said: “ and the strangest part is, none of that story is true!” Just to leave some ambiguity because basically he told on the DMV in a state worker. That’s not cool!😂
I went to circus camp too, when I was about 9. It was a great experience. At the end of the camp, we each had to do a final performance act for our families/staff. For my act, I chose to balance on a wooden balance board while juggling three balls. In the middle of the act, I missed one of the balls with my hand and had to get off the balance board to retrieve them. Thankfully, I maintained my calm and composure enough to get right back on the balance board and get back to juggling, and didn't have any serious errors the rest of the routine. It was a big achievement for me (finishing out the act after making a mistake). That moment of mental resiliency paid off down the road, enabling me to develop the habit of staying calm under pressure, and I eventually earned a spot on a Division 1 sports team. Like Mr. Ruebens, I developed my skills in other areas partly due to what I learned in circus camp. Performing is performing.
RIP Paul! Legend!
I had a lady grade my DL written test and fixed it for me. She said “for ‘such and such’ you really meant ‘this’, right?” And I said “yes, absolutely”!
RIP peewee thanku for everything 🚲❤️🙏
RIP Paul you will go down in history as one of the BEST!!!
Loved Loved Loved him! Rip.
Two of the all time best
RIP Paul!
R.I.P. Paul Reuben.
Genius!
a neat interview,, one of the best. will miss you pee wee..
Thanks for the laughs sir! RIP
REST WELL!!!!!!
My trees got cut down and he just cheers me up
He’s a classic
Love you Paul
I thought I was going to be in a circus to. I learned to unicycle.
He did join the circus he became a actor Hollywood is the ultimate circus
My wife went to the DMV in LA. They shouted out "Coleman" which at the time was her last name. Lo and behold her and Gary Coleman both stood up. Instantly he gave her "the Arnold face". I believe her story of this is somewhere on Quora. Gary didn't get the same treatment as Mr. Reubens, and it's not as cool as his, but still pretty funny. Coincidentally, now that I think of it Pee Wee's Big Adventure is her favorite movie. How about that.
You sure Gary Coleman wasn’t already standing up? 😂
Big top Pee Wee is an underrated movie
Vance the pig!
Thank you so much muito obrigado!
He is hilarious🤣 I love him🤣💕
Fun fact: Paul Reubens dad was one one of the founding five pilots in the Israeli Air Force. No joke! Look it up!
A legend
The transformation from class geek to call me daddy is amazing
REST IN PEACE PEE WEE 🥲🥲
Devastated ❤
Great stories
Great story at the end from a legend.
One of a kind
he was great in Blow.
He looks great 👍🏼
his story about famous actors at the DMV is true.. to avoid causing chaos and putting the actors at risk.. they do take them to a private room to conduct their DMV business. I don't think it is to give them special treatment necessarily.. although it kind of works out that way.. it is to keep them safe and also protect their privacy.. like personal info that might be revealed with filling out forms. And I think they have special persons at the office to do this.. perhaps persons with seniority and who can be trusted?
"I love that story". --- Ad Astra Paul.
Paul would have been perfect to do a Peter Lorre biographical movie
I didn't know the state of CA required him to have a license for his Playhouse scooter. Probably got extra points for having that safe monster helmet.
Omg i would have loved to go to circus camp!
Not at all surprised he went to Circus camp, he is one of the greatest leading character actors ever and one of the most handsome. Love his gentle sweet soft speaking voice and that charming ageless boyish face. Adore what Paul is wearing here, it suits him well. Great interview with you Conan. 😍😘🥰🤩🌟✨🚲 🎭 🤡 🎪 🎟️
wonderful
I don't think he gets enough credit for being original. It's something that's very difficult to achieve in the cutthroat world of entertainment.
It would have been interesting if Pee Wee and Ernest P worrell. ( Jim varney) had made a movie back in the 80s. Two different comedians but both comic icons of the time
I never liked Ernest. Never quite understood what made him so popular
@@jetnut89 depends on Your taste. I personally prefer ernest.
@@melmen2379 My kids had an Ernest doll with a pull string!!! They loved him!!!
