I've been scuba diving three times at Cortes Bank. It's amazing that it can be flat calm, no wind, and have 200 foot visibility part of the year and have giant waves another part of the year.

Really? Have you been sleeping? If any wave spot could rival the humongous waves at Nazare Portual, it's Cortez Bank. Like Nazare, Cortez Bank is a super-dome of huge waves. The giant waves at Nazare move slow by comparison to Cortez Bank which is the fastest wave ever? Perhaps because it was discovered recently (within the last 10 years), that you never heard about it.
Don't you know Mike Parsons set the record there for one of the biggest waves ever ridden. Check it out!

First time I've seen modern cameras, angles, and recording of Cortes since like footage from 2001 when Mike parsons was still getting towed in.
Since then Portugal has become the reigning king of big waves. But this was fuckin awesome and reminded us how fuckin gnarly Cortes is

I guess the swell at Cortez Bank ist more reliable than at Nazare's ( Port.). Nazare' is pretty much like Maverick's, you only have a small time window, and even that ain't 100% reliable: a friend of mine was at Nazare' with Red Bull, filming Jason Polakow ... the swell was almost three weeks off schedule!
I've never been at Cortez Bank, and probably never will ... but for me that's SURREAL ... I've been told you can hear the thundering waves from far away ... must be freakin' scary, to say the least, beside the fact that being so far out in the ocean, you may encounter giant sea creatures ... I don't even want to think about ... but for me: the CB is the mount everest of surfing ... period
By the way, my riding skills are far too low for even dreaming of it ... still, that is probably one of the most radical demonstration of power of mother nature ...
