It was worse than that. It felt like when Disney used to edit together the first 5 episodes of a series into a movie. Then put it on Magical World of Disney on Sundays
@@harrisd1983 You're absolutely right! It felt like they edited together several episodes and shoved that stuff into theaters. Huge mistake to release this film.
I enjoyed this movie but agree with you the movie is lacking compared to the first one. I think the reason is lacking is the music just like you said. It was nice to bring the family to the theater and get some nice entertainment. 4 year old at times kind of lost his attention I think that's just because of the music.
Seem films that involve the Rock as executive seem fall flat. Knowing they cut Miranda to cut corners it's obvious Rock shouldn't be in charge of any Disney & WB films
100%. It was originally content filler for Disney+ , that they decided to etiher into a movie and throw into theatres to make some quick money. Compare this to Inside out 2 which was a carefully thought out sequel.
I'm hearing a lot of commonalities in the reviews so far but what should be spoke on more is the importance of it for the culture. Speaking of somebody with Samoan descent this is more than a movie and a showcase of our culture. It's unfortunate that some people may not have liked it and may have expected something else, and that's completely their right to. But there should also be a little more understanding of its importance and how those songs may be cherished and appreciated by those of that culture. Just a perspective, not an argument. Love the videos
Not as good as the first, but the more you sit with it, it gets better. Solid follow up. *Starting a theory without spoiling when she asks Maui if " does this mean?" I think it does mean what isn't said. Nice twist.
Always difficult to recapture the magic and lightning in a bottle of any first movie. Not impossible as we've seen in movies like Empire Strikes Back, Bladerunner 2049, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, etc, but most of the time I only ask that a movie be good on its own. I think this would be a movie I'd have to see on my own to decide. I get that it was made on a budget and lacks the Rock's presence more prominently and it lacks LMM's songs and it's not that I don't trust guys like Kristian, Rocha, etc, but much like food, it can be hard for me to judge what I will and won't like until I have it/watch it for myself. In the end, maybe I'll come to the same conclusion, but often times, I haven't so I'll just have to see. Thanks for this review, Kristian.
I liked the movie but I literally told my wife that it felt flat. Like an episode of a show. Not a lot happened. However, I feel like this could open up much more. I liked some of the slower/more heartfelt songs. Like the one in the beginning. But the ones that are supposed to be "fun" didn't really land. I heard a few times that just felt like they were *trying* to imitate Lin, but it didn't work.
I like Moana 2, it’s a fun and entertaining movie! The animation is beautiful, the new characters are great additions, and Moana is an amazing protagonists and a wonderful role model for young kids (especially girls)! My main problem is that it felt “shorter” than the first movie, despite having almost the same runtime. The plot felt too rushed that it didn’t allow enough time to establish the urgency of the plot’s main conflict and the high stakes on the line if Moana doesn’t do anything to solve the problem. Just my thoughts!
It was actually supposed to be a streaming series they condensed into a movie I think that’s the biggest problem besides the music. I liked it overall though as a sillier Saturday morning cartoon type of adventure
I'm not surprised that it's not as good or comparable to the first one just looking at some clips. But here's the question Kristian, would your daughters like it especially your youngest? I remember you saying on the show that she's a massive Moana fan. If a massive fan like her doesn't like it then Disney really fucked up. LOL
It seems like this movie is not a real thought out sequel like Inside out 2. More like a side quest, DLC mission. The whole plot to find - reunite the tribe sounds so dull and low stakes. Its almost like this was going to be afiller content for disney+ that they decided at the last minute to chop up together into a movie.... Oh wait.. ..
Maybe I’m a grown man but I watched both of them and their both fine to me. I don’t think there’s really much of a gap between the two. The biggest criticism is that it does feel like the first movie again in a lot of ways.
Would you have noticed the story if you didn't know it was once set up as a Disney+ show? I think people are going in knowing this fact and looking too critically for it.
I was sadly very disappointed by this film. Everything that I loved about the first film felt absent, the new characters were forgettable and even the story felt lacking to me. I just couldn’t get on board for the journey beyond the reef this time.
They tried but glad i saw the matinee showing. I'm sure the 3D or imax showing would've been cool but I'll never pay for that. I didn't care about the "supporting cast" as they seemed more annoying than anything. Don't think Dwayne would've came back for a tv series but who knows. Of course my daughter and nieces loved it so there's that
I saw #moana2 I thought it was a worthy sequel to the original I loved how they gave Hei Hei and Pua more screen time and adore her little sister and btw stay till the end credits they tease a third movie and the next big bad I’d give it a 7 I agree it’s not as good as the original but a fun sequel I can’t for zootopia 2 next year And we can all agree that animation is for everyone
Sorry, but I have to disagree. I really disliked the film. Outside of the bat lady's song and that little coconut warrior, everything about this movie was a disappointment for me. The story, songs and writing were incredibly weak. Hated that trio of sidekicks too. This and Glad2iator are probably the biggest disappointments this November. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Franchise viagra to frachise poision. He almost messed up Wrestelmania 40 until they decided to piviot and make him trynig to insert himself into the main event into a storylie.
So, basically an equivalent of those direct-to-dvd Disney sequels...

How is this The Rock’s fault when this was specifically made to be a tv show then Disney mandated it be recut into a movie?
Lol, what? He would have had 0 say in any of those decisions.
Now you're just talking out of your butt and making stuff up
Sounds like the very definition of a "cash grab".

The little sister reminded me, in the character model, of Vanillope VonShweppe from Wreck it Ralph.
