the songs get lost and beyond have been STUCCKKKK in my head since I left the theater. I might actually listen to it again right now. those songs were fire.
Psssst Disney... If you made a 1 year gap for Moana to return to her island you could have released a tv series to show the wacky things she came across on her journey back WHILE also being able to work on the third movie
I went and saw it tonight, and I had a really good time! I was there with a six year old who laughed at all the jokes and danced in her seat at the songs, and I mostly enjoyed seeing the visuals on a movie screen (I don’t really see what people are saying about the animation looking worse, I thought it was pretty good.) But the movie itself, the plot, wasn’t great, in the sense that there wasn’t really one? Maybe I just looked too deep into everything, but the second you start thinking it all unravels. She saw a vision of her empty island, but it didn’t do anything to explain why it would happen, or why she had to go now, so there was no urgency or pressing danger. And then the confusion over who the villain is, or if there even is one, and then there’s not one but TWO fake out deaths thrown in at the end, as if anyone would believe they’d kill of Maui or Moana. Also the little sister was cute sometimes I guess, but her lines made me cringe so hard. It’s that thing media sometimes does with siblings where they’ll be like “Hey little bro!” “Hey big sis!” And it just irritates me. No real person talks like that.
I think a similar plot is fine as long as there are GOOD new songs and the second movie should have the same vibes/feelings as the first one. And there should be good jokes and good characters and a good plot but moana 2 lacks everything
What I really don't get is why they made Moana a demigoddess at the end, and then not have her show off any sort of powers. It's like Disney was deliberately trying to be vague because they thought people would call it a cop out. Even though she totally earned it.
Although i admit that they were a bit vague about it, they actually do show and hint at her demi-god powers during the reprise song of “Beyond” and the ending song “We Know The Way”. It’s very subtle but you can actually see her manipulate the water she touches with her oar to help Maui raise the island from the ocean. At the end you can see her guide the people/boat crew by putting her oar in the water, creating an illuminated “pathway” in the ocean. :)
We need to petition Disney *hard* for Moana 3 to be a Tomatoa-focused prequel. Like how Puss in Boots got his own franchise, except this will be about a big mean crab with golden vocal cords
I used to be totally obsessed with Moana when I was a kid and I always dreaded the idea of a sequel/live action because I knew it would be cheap. Guess I was right! However I had always liked the idea of a spinoff with Maui's early adventures and meeting Tamatoa as they clearly have history.
I understand if Disney wants to make villains sympathetic and redeemable. But why couldn’t they make a sympathetic non redeemable villain that dies at the end. Also, what happened to villain deaths? I’m guessing it’s so Disney can sell toys.
26:15 **SPOILERS** You can actually see that when she touches the water with her oar that it changes the course of the water she has touched with this yellow/golden “glitter”, helping Maui to lift the island up through water manipulation (you can see a short scene of Maui noticing the weight of the mountain becoming lighter due to the ocean helping to raise the mountain higher.) You see Maui look back at it and smile, knowing that Moana was right all along when she said “We have to come together as a team” the first time she tries to convince him to help them break the curse when they were going through the Portal of Gods. At the end of the movie, during the final song you get to see the same glitter coming from her oar when she touches the water again, this time illuminating a “pathway” through the ocean. So i believe her demi-god powers may have something to do with “way finding” and “water manipulation”, given that her name translates to “Ocean” and her close bond with the Ocean.
Going to see it tomorrow. As excited as i am to see it, i totally understand where everyone is going with this. Because it was originally intended to be a series for Disney+ which honestly, yeah it should've been.
As bad as the movie was, i have to say Moana turning into demigoddess or some form and gains power was great, its weird because i usually dont like how popular fanon stuff becomes canon, but this just works perfectly. I think we’ll definitely get to see Moana honing her new powers in the next movie, i like it better that she doesn’t have shape shifting powers like Maui I wouldn’t want her to get a copy of Maui’s powers but if she does, let her earn those powers through more hardships, don’t just give them to her.
I never would have expected Disney to add mudskippers (17:08) to a movie- especially Moana bc they don’t like in tropical areas like that, but they honestly did a great job on the designs for the mudskippers, making them look accurate but goofy- which is also accurate
I think if Moana was going to become a demigod, then Mua should have given her the ability and not the ghost of her ancestors. THAT would have put more on their relationship and him giving up something to help her. Missed opportunity Disney.
This is why I love your channel! Instead of being purely negative you actually offer extremely good constructive criticism! Keep up the great work Dazz!
Moana 2 is the prelude to Moana 3. In M3 we are gonna get Polynesian Tribes lead by Moana, the Kakamoras and Maui into battles against the Invading Nalo, Lalotai monsters, Tamatoa. We might see Te Fiti helping Moana.
I know everyone is crapping on this movie right now and I get it. But this took me back to when I would grab my straight-to-VHS sequels of my favorite movies and get to spend just a little more time with my fav characters. I didn't love Moana 2, but I am so happy to spend more time with everyone! I looooved the ending -- made me cry lol. Thanks for the review!
Honestly just sad how Disney is ruining actually good movies with sequels or live-actions and generic villains The worst part about it is that they could had done something actually good on Moana 2 but they just ruined another good movie
i was kinda dissapointed with their world building this time, moana 1 wasnt trying to build a world for the future films, it used its vague ideas as something to wonder about, and also the music wasnt as good
now i'm thinking of what interstellar would be if it was a long overseas voyage instead, not sure how that'd work though (no way murph would get older than the dad I forgot the name of)
Yeah I thought it was ok for the most part but I wish the movie wasn't rushed they missed out on so many opportunities for changing it into a movie I would really like more storylines and details
It was packed when I was booking tickets..I believe becuz people loved the 1st movie, which is why it did great in the box office..but it's disappointing how terrible Moana 2 is compared to the amazing 1st Moana..Moana 2 is like a unnecessary stain for the Moana brand/legacy..Moana deserved better than dis Moana 2 mess
The coconut guy! Hes also my favourite!! Hes so cute and it genuinely feels like the only emotional bit of the film, in my opinion the sister was not needed, and me and my mom were very confused they didnt make bat lady evil, I think it would've been better, the music is good but not good in the movie, it's good separately, and the end is so dumb, like disney usually is so good to make me cry but they failed miserably to throw emotion at the ending, and its stupid the villain was not villiany they just kinda were? Like euh the movie could be so much better
@@Arandomyoutuber-j1t thanks for telling me I might watch some more violence movies but if not I’ll watch wicked is wicked a good movie tho what is it about
I haven’t see Moana 2 but judging by the trailers, it just feels like more of the same. If I were in charge of writing the story for Moana 2, I would have aged Moana up into an adult, perhaps a 5-10 year timeskip. Instead of having a little sister, she would have had a daughter instead. That way it would show how much she has grown up and how responsible she has become. Since Moana has a new daughter, she should also have a new husband, too. I know that romance wasn’t a huge element in the first film, but since Moana is older, perhaps it would be proper to give her a love interest of some kind.
na, her having a sister make's sense as she doesn't want to be stuck on the island but someone would need to be in charge there as for the movie they could have shown her developing leadership/teaching skill's for sailing and traveling as that is her main role also having her make trade deals with the other islands or "people"
I haven't watched the movie so I don't know if they did this, but here are my ideas for the side characters: Loto: As the craftswoman of the group, it would be cool if she used different gadgets she invents to help the gang, and over the course of the seiries have her upgrade the ship in order for them to survive more dangerous waters. Moni: Aside from being a fan of Maui, I would like him to play a role as someone who can decipher acient text that can help the gang reach the different islands as well as the mysteries surrounding their history using a combination of oral history and ancient carvings. Kele: As a farmer, it would be cool if he can identify which plants are safe to eat, how to perserve them, as well as as which plants can be used for medicinal purposes. So that also makes him the crews doctor.
Small correction regarding the title: "Its" would be the accurate word to use, not "it's'. In reality, what your title says is: "How Moana 2 Wasted It is Potential..."
it felt incredibly rushed imo. the journey felt like it was going way too fast. same with any character development. the songs were way too "pop" for me. the first movie had more of a broadway feel, with some pop sprinkled in. and the rapping parts just didnt hit. you could feel the absence of lin-manuel miranda. and dwayne couldnt rap in maui's song lol. im sorry, but it was terrible lol
@KlumzInDaHouse yeah! dwayne did awesome in "you're welcome" he had a nice rhythm. it went from slow to fast in a nice way. i also think that it was a good choice that maui was the only one that rapped in the first movie. while i also didnt really like matangi's song (was also too "pop" for me, and i didnt really appreciate all of the random riffs [like, one would have been nice], at least her voice actress could do it lol
It’s even more confusing when you realise that this ‘film’ was nominated for the six best animated films for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, considering that it had a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes on the Tomatometer.
The fact Moana is now maybe/maybe not a demigodess now pisses me off. I walked out of the they’re wondering what I had just watched. It was so genuinely unclear and no one is talking about it!
This movie was so obviously 3 episodes of that disney plus series stitched together. I guess since Wish flopped so hard, they needed another money machine quick. Outside of the movie being mid at best, the production saw Disney pretty much take advantage of un-unionized animators in a outsourced studio. I really hope this movie flops so that Disney doesnt get comfortable with these pretty awful production practices
Here’s how I would have wrote it: Just have Moana and Maui go on a journey to stop Maui’s biological parents from taking over the sea. BOOM! Just Wrote a better plot in a minute than Disney could in several months.
The plot itself is not really the bad part. The excecution is just not any good. There was just way to little screen time. The plot was intended for a series, and it could have worked for a series, but it did not translate to the big screen. They should have either kept it as a disney+ show, or cut a lot of content. If it wasn't a family film they could also have extended it to like 2.5 hours i guess.
As a big fan of the original film, I was extremely disappointed with what Disney did with Moana 2 and it seems like Disney still hasn't learned any lessons after Ralph Breaks The Internet and Frozen 2 with extremely poor quality.
I think for me, the biggest sin of this movie was the lack of character growth. The reason why Moana 1 is my favourite Disney movie is because Moana's character journey is so personally significant to me. So many scenes of the original are in service of establishing or furthering this journey of personal growth, and that's a major reason why the songs pop so much, from the tightly written where you are sequence, the inner turmoil of how far you go, and the self-actualization of I am Moana. Even the non-Moana focused songs are full to the brim of character; every line of You're Welcome and Shiny dripping with charm. By contrast, the characters in this movie are so one-note and shallow. And Moana feels like such a static character in this. I kept wanting to get on board with her journey in this, clinging onto anything the movie gave me. But all there really was, was her hesitation in leaving the island and her sister behind, and her concerns about endangering her new crew, its all so surface level. I think the only two times I really felt something for Moana was the catharsis of her dad finally embracing her as a wayfinder, and the end when she nearly died, but was saved through her spiritual connection with her poeple. But on the whole, the Moana at the beginning of the film and the Moana at the end are really the same person, which absolutely can not be said about the first film.
Did anyone in the movie address why they couldn't just go AROUND the giant clam? Why did they have to kill and/or go through it? There was tons of ocean around.
I thought it was honestly pretty good, but it didn’t feel like it had a middle to the movie and that bugged me- It’s not terrible, but it feels like it goes from the beginning and world set up to the end and big bad fight-
I think it wasn’t too bad at all some parts i feel like weren’t explored enough and the main reason is most likely because this was supposed to be a show and not a movie. Also when watching i did felt like the story was a bit rushed
I really enjoyed Moana 2 but everything I DIDN'T like about it could've been resolved with more breathing room. Honestly, similar tale to Frozen 2 - good ideas jammed at too fast a pace.
Does anyone else think that the character design for the God at the post credits scene was kind of crap, like they really didn't put much thought into it with him looking more like a background character than an intimidating God, his tattoos were just triangle with the only thing insinuating that he is a God (or a character of importance) being that the tattoos glow purple and he had yellow eyes.. very bland and lack lustre, could have at least giving him a bear as he rocks that horrible low taper fade... LIKE REALLY COULDNT HAVE GIVIN HIM DREADS OR JUST YK A HAIRSTYLE ACURATE TO THAT TIME PERIOD BRO!
I feel the same. I just don't feel justified to say I 'like' Moana 2, just because of what it did for the world building. The songs are still good despite the new songwriter.
I saw the movie myself and I gave it an 8/10, it's not as good as the first movie, story/writing to me felt a lil weird, and the villain that they promoted wasn't a villain at all, songs they chose we're a downgrade to the first film. Might change it to a 7 or 6.

Also the little sister was cute sometimes I guess, but her lines made me cringe so hard. It’s that thing media sometimes does with siblings where they’ll be like “Hey little bro!” “Hey big sis!” And it just irritates me. No real person talks like that.
I feel as if Monana 2 has the same problem as the incredibles 2. It’s the same plot format just a different character going through it
I think a similar plot is fine as long as there are GOOD new songs and the second movie should have the same vibes/feelings as the first one.
thats exactly what i said… i was so mad!!
They did show it and she just got her powers she won’t have everything yet plus there’s the third movie to look forward to
We need to petition Disney *hard* for Moana 3 to be a Tomatoa-focused prequel. Like how Puss in Boots got his own franchise, except this will be about a big mean crab with golden vocal cords
Jemaine Clement is an absolute treat of a man, so I would greatly enjoy seeing a movie focused on his character
I guess you didn't see Mufasa yet. Kiros was not redeemable and died at the end.
when i first saw her "demigod powers" i immediately said " oh so she just has the power of Google Maps... thats... in character ig"
I am a kiwi, so I grew up with stories of Maui, and in every story I have read and/or heard, he is skinny.
The sequel not matching up to the first movie in the slightest really disappoints me since it’s one of my favorite Disney movies.
this leads me to believe what did we expect from disney anymore?
26:15 **SPOILERS**
You can actually see that when she touches the water with her oar that it changes the course of the water she has touched with this yellow/golden “glitter”, helping Maui to lift the island up through water manipulation (you can see a short scene of Maui noticing the weight of the mountain becoming lighter due to the ocean helping to raise the mountain higher.) You see Maui look back at it and smile, knowing that Moana was right all along when she said “We have to come together as a team” the first time she tries to convince him to help them break the curse when they were going through the Portal of Gods.
Did you like it??
Few months before this movie came out, Jared Bush became the new Disney Animation CCO replacing Jennifer Lee
Moana 2 is the prelude to Moana 3. In M3 we are gonna get Polynesian Tribes lead by Moana, the Kakamoras and Maui into battles against the Invading Nalo, Lalotai monsters, Tamatoa. We might see Te Fiti helping Moana.
The movie starts out bad, slogs along, I was thinking; 'stop talking, stop singing and get on the boat already' second half is better
I absolutely love the monsters in this movie, their designs are just amazing and marveling
Get Lost has been stuck in my head since the day I watched the movie.
Honestly just sad how Disney is ruining actually good movies with sequels or live-actions and generic villains
The worst part about it is that they could had done something actually good on Moana 2 but they just ruined another good movie
Seen it yesterday. I don't have any interest in seeing it for the second. Wasn't the best.
i was kinda dissapointed with their world building this time, moana 1 wasnt trying to build a world for the future films, it used its vague ideas as something to wonder about, and also the music wasnt as good
Thank god, I dodged the bullet by watching Wicked last Wednesday.
The fact i got a moana 2 movie ad 💀
I got one as well!
now i'm thinking of what interstellar would be if it was a long overseas voyage instead, not sure how that'd work though (no way murph would get older than the dad I forgot the name of)
You could with a mystical version of the bermuda triangle maybe. Get creative, my dude.
Bro seriously said Mufasa 2 💀
Yeah I thought it was ok for the most part but I wish the movie wasn't rushed they missed out on so many opportunities for changing it into a movie I would really like more storylines and details
I think they might want to do something with the villain in another film, or maybe they’re going to make a series all about her.
I went to see this movie with my friends. The cinema was almost empty lol
it‘s world wide breaking records…very likely 300-400 mio in 5 days worldwide
Fr? I would have assumed families would have been duped to see it
@@tillm2481not bad for a disney plus show
It was packed when I was booking tickets..I believe becuz people loved the 1st movie, which is why it did great in the box office..but it's disappointing how terrible Moana 2 is compared to the amazing 1st Moana..Moana 2 is like a unnecessary stain for the Moana brand/legacy..Moana deserved better than dis Moana 2 mess
Mine’s was extremely full lol
The coconut guy! Hes also my favourite!! Hes so cute and it genuinely feels like the only emotional bit of the film, in my opinion the sister was not needed, and me and my mom were very confused they didnt make bat lady evil, I think it would've been better, the music is good but not good in the movie, it's good separately, and the end is so dumb, like disney usually is so good to make me cry but they failed miserably to throw emotion at the ending, and its stupid the villain was not villiany they just kinda were? Like euh the movie could be so much better
It was a fine movie, but a bad sequel. Also, the only decent song was the bat lady’s song. The rest were so bad it was laughable.
No way they gave me a moana 2 ad before the video 😭
Can’t believe she beat the “villain” by blowing a seashell, and lifting a island up, crazy
I didnt watch it yet but did Moana get engaged?or anything don’t ask why I wanna know
@ Nothing really happened to be honest, but she has a crew, but then again the moive is a waste I recommend just watching wicked.
@@Arandomyoutuber-j1t so it’s basically the same as Moana one?
@@apersonwhohasanxiety Not exactly but it is like it but really bad.
I know that romance wasn’t a huge element in the first film, but since Moana is older, perhaps it would be proper to give her a love interest of some kind.
na, her having a sister make's sense as she doesn't want to be stuck on the island but someone would need to be in charge there as for the movie they could have shown her developing leadership/teaching skill's for sailing and traveling as that is her main role also having her make trade deals with the other islands or "people"
I haven't watched the movie so I don't know if they did this, but here are my ideas for the side characters:
Loto: As the craftswoman of the group, it would be cool if she used different gadgets she invents to help the gang, and over the course of the seiries have her upgrade the ship in order for them to survive more dangerous waters.
Great suggestions👏🏻👏🏻
4:10 XD that woman's expression :0
I got a Moana 2 ad before this 💀
I heard a kid say “She’s dead again!” near the end and that made me laugh
Small correction regarding the title: "Its" would be the accurate word to use, not "it's'. In reality, what your title says is: "How Moana 2 Wasted It is Potential..."
I just got an ad for Moanna 2
"it gave her the ability to breathe" I guess we are all demi gods then lol
it felt incredibly rushed imo. the journey felt like it was going way too fast. same with any character development. the songs were way too "pop" for me. the first movie had more of a broadway feel, with some pop sprinkled in. and the rapping parts just didnt hit. you could feel the absence of lin-manuel miranda. and dwayne couldnt rap in maui's song lol. im sorry, but it was terrible lol
yea the rapping part felt so awkward and forced and it just didn't flow as well as the "you're welcome" rap.
@@Chibi_Mercury “You’re welcome” will always be his best song.
Saw it yesterday I don't plan on wanting to see it again. I felt no excitement when I first saw the trailer.
Dwayne Johnson's had two movies back-to-back do bad within a week, Red One & Moana 2
Did anyone else think the little girl was Moana's daughter at first?
I did 😅
I did 😅
The best part of moana 2 was the free sticker sheet I got
Disney: you're hired!
He is 3k years old and a demigod. His parents are long dead
Another one turn the lady into a actual villain or threat to Maui and the islands
Thank you for the idea, now you are fired 😁@@Lemonmidnight
welcome back direct to dvd sequels
They had concepts of character development
So, from what I'm seeing is that it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good.
Good enough tbh!
As a big fan of the original film, I was extremely disappointed with what Disney did with Moana 2 and it seems like Disney still hasn't learned any lessons after Ralph Breaks The Internet and Frozen 2 with extremely poor quality.
did you know that the music of this video is based on flying battery zone of sonic mania
So did this title. Someone call Grammarly-
Doesn't this mean Moana will outlive her family since she's now a demigod?
I’m scared for moana two☹️ I hope they don’t ruin moana (when I watch it)
It does not ruin anything at all. It does not do much at all really.
I’m having a feeling that you’re going to compare it with the first film after this video.
No way, Disney wasting potential again? Say it ain’t so.
Apparently, a whole school went to watch this movie in the premiere, huh.
Isk what everyones talking about my theater was full
This does have a lot of potenial.. if it was a TV series. But still better than Spellbound
I got to see the movie yesterday and the movie was pretty good
Did anyone in the movie address why they couldn't just go AROUND the giant clam? Why did they have to kill and/or go through it? There was tons of ocean around.
I thought it was honestly pretty good, but it didn’t feel like it had a middle to the movie and that bugged me-
It’s not terrible, but it feels like it goes from the beginning and world set up to the end and big bad fight-
I am pretty sure, that was a whale shark and not a whale.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing
I think it wasn’t too bad at all
some parts i feel like weren’t explored enough and the main reason is most likely because this was supposed to be a show and not a movie. Also when watching i did felt like the story was a bit rushed
I really enjoyed Moana 2 but everything I DIDN'T like about it could've been resolved with more breathing room. Honestly, similar tale to Frozen 2 - good ideas jammed at too fast a pace.
Bro, what potential did that movie have?
Im expecting more tribal themed songs
Zootopia 2 is gonna be as bad as Moana 2
How on earth have you found content that hasn't been from the trailers or sneak peak shorts? It would be illegal or inappropriate to copy from cinema.
I honestly think that simea was a bit unnecessary 😕 😐 🙄 but I still love Moana ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ and rest of the new characters 🎉🎉🎉😂😂👌👌👌
Music was too much like theatre for Disneys standards it felt so forced unlike the first Moana
Erm what the sig-
Who would win Maui or Homelander?
Homelander, I definitely like Maui more, but it’s not even close
I dont understandthe hate i loves the movie
i thought it wasn't that bad but i think zootopia 2 will be better
Do you know what I use for a sleep mask? A piece of fabric I cut off that I tie around my eyes like a blind fold. Humans will buy anything
I would have rather they let this bake in the oven for a little bit more, the franchise of Moana deserves better.
Disney is cursed. Whenever Disney makes sequels, they’re always bad. And they ruined everything they touched. Disney is cursed, I tell you. Cursed.
I saw the movie myself and I gave it an 8/10, it's not as good as the first movie, story/writing to me felt a lil weird, and the villain that they promoted wasn't a villain at all, songs they chose we're a downgrade to the first film. Might change it to a 7 or 6.
Spoilers:
So is Moana a demi god now? Because she literally 💀 and got a tattoo
It didn't really explain it
@@LemonmidnightYeah, it sounded like Maui was going to say she’s a demigod but instead he says his tattoos are still better than hers lol.
same thing i was thinking, probably disney trying to be purposefully vague about it or smth idk.
Moana 2 should have stayed a Disney plus show
