- HIV treatment has advanced considerably over the years. Today, with daily medications and minimal side effects, people living with HIV can suppress the viral load to undetectable levels and cannot transmit the virus to others sexually*.
This is the story of Calvin, one of the youngest persons openly living with HIV in Singapore, who shares his experience on embracing life undeterred by HIV.

I have a family member who has hiv but she did not take her meds regularly which later developed to aids. It's really demoralising and saddening because the rest of the family members only knew about it when her condition developed to aids and it totally changed all of our lives. Please if you know someone who has hiv, please remind them to take their meds every single day 🙏

Totally understand what you're going through. I was diagnosed in April 2009. The night I was informed everything just went blank. I was in a state of depression. But after lots of reading up, I felt better.
It's been 13 years now and on nightly meds. And here I am....still. I was convinced that I wouldn't live through my 40s. But with the Grace of God, He gave me the chance to live life.
The only "virus" that's more dangerous than HIV itself is the stigma and prejudice that we have to go through.
Before this, I was afraid to let my condition to be known. But I think it's my responsibility to be honest about it.

You can still have a normal life with your girlfriend. Adhering to ART strictly will suppress the virus and hence, it becomes non-transmissible. You and your children will be saved.
The social stigma of having HIV is still so great but particularly more so in Asian communities, After watching a few videos about HIV on TH-cam, I began to see there were huge achievements in medicine development and patient care in the last couple of years, I wish more people become aware that people with HIV are not to be feared and shunned but they need more care and to be included in our community,

Having been born in 1985, I’m suddenly reminded of the restaurant my dad bought for my bored stepmother’s diversion in the early-1990’s & their both privately telling me that the GENIUS “real gourmet chef” they hired was HIV positive, during an era when many people, including doctors willfully ostracized all those people to the fates of dying alone with not even their family by their bedsides.

It is normal to feel like your world is over at the moment. But if you adhere to ART and its treatment, you can live a pretty normal life. It will even become non-transmissible so you can actually have normal children.

Im a nurse and tbh theres are MANY MANY People have it. They always tend to forget, herpes are contact precaution and aids are via blood transmission. People are always quiet when they have herpes too. Herpes can be transmitted just by sharing food,touching, kissing. And yes it is scary. Its lifetime disease like a
hiv and especially when one having zoster/ulcer. And how it affevt the eyes etc. We need to bring out awareness Of herpes. Its far more common in singapore community.

@@seatheparade thats why try not to share food. People with herpes are usually super silent about their condition and dont even tell until nurses or doctor ask them and they will say it awkwardly. So of cox they wont tell anyone including their friend or family. Herpes spread via just contact. Or sharing of food. And hiv spread via blood. Which one is scarier in community? I would say is herpes.

I NEVER thought hiv + people were dirty!!! That is so ignorant. I saw it as a highly infectious disease that could be caught from sex and THAT was scary. I am still afraid of catching HIV, Herpes, or ANY infectious disease that I cannot get rid of. I am not afraid to be around HIV ÷ people. We had a lot of learning to about how the disease was spread. I support you guys who have hiv against discrimination, me and my previous exhusband we are both serodiscordant partners, which means one of us is hiv positive and one isn't, trust me, having a hiv partner isnt as scary as you think, its possible to have sex but with safe practice and i strongly support this, please just wear your condoms 🤗 and hiv isnt spreadable with kissing cause the viral load isn't high enough to do it, i really hope people know this and get educated

In a way, he is lucky that he was diagnosed and hence able to be medicated early and future partners can be aware of it too. How many are not diagnosed and are walking timeb0mbs themselves, putting their partners at risk?
There are ppl that take preventative measures for themselves esp when dating by taking Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). It's considered highly effective when taken as prescribed.

I think what is absent is what to do if you had just done something risky like the guy came in your ass.
I here to share what to do. Go A&E straight, don't like me wait 10 hours next morning. Go A&E, the bill is 120+45 for 3 day meds. They will.make you comeback for a second round to do a 28 day PEP course. Total bill will run up to $300, Singapore government does subsidise the PEP treatment.
Don't talk about what to do when you can get. What are we if in Singapore can into trouble. Hope this helps anyone who got into the same trouble as me.
The problem is I didn't know about PEP and when I came to the hospital they didn't tell me or give me PEP. So I have to survive with the current situation 😢
