    Hey Everyone,
    In today's video, we're going to show you how to replace your BMW N55's Tensioner, Idler Pully and accessory belt. The process is fairly easy with the right tools and can save you a good amount of money by doing it yourself. In this video, we'll walk you through the process, so you don't get stuck! We did mine around 53,000 miles, but some go out sooner and some later.
    Here's a link to the part: www.kiesmotorsports.com/searc...

    Good video. Hard to really show what's going on in such a tight space but you guys did a great job with lighting and trying your best not to get in the way of the camera. I do have a suggestion for what you could use to replace that retention pin instead of a drill bit. Drill bits are very brittle and might snap when being used in this method, especially if someone decided to use a smaller diameter bit than what you used. I would use a nail instead as they are ductile and would bend before breaking, a dime a dozen, and if you accidentally left it in before removing the tensioner, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm not familiar with how much force the spring inside the tension arm is applying so take this suggestion for what it is, a thought.

    Fantastic videos thanks guys. 2 questions hopefully someone can help.
    1. I suspect this is the repair that I need to do, but I'm not 100% sure. My car currently makes a weird high pitched noise a little that sounds like the tensioner/belt needs to be replaced (I had done this previously at ~65k about 2 years ago. I'm at around 81.5k miles now sounds similar to before when I changed it). What are the normal side effects/tell tell signs that I need to change em.
    2. I have a 2013 335i xdrive coupe e92. Anything that I would have to do differently on my specific model?
    Thanks in advance!

    You shouldn't need the drillbit. That's why they don't provide a metal rod for your old tensioner.
    It's meant for you to remove the belt while holding the tensioner with the T60. Once you have the belt off, you can release the T60. They have the new one set for your convenience only.
    I like your idea because the engine bay is tight. But just saying you don't need the drillbit. You can save the metal rod from the new tensioner for the next job.

    That's funny cause i just replaced my bmw 535i f10 M-Sport belt tensioner, two idler pulleys & German serpentine belt all OEM, yet my tensioner pulley still shakes as the new belt vibrates next to it so urs on this video seems normal. The problem with the old tensioner was that not only did it vibrated more than the new one but it also made bearing noise!
    When the lettering on the old belt shows fading, then it's time for a new one!

      Hey was your idler pulleys hard to change ? I have the same car and by the looks of it, it looks like there’s hoses in the way on the upper idler pulley.

    • @zihaofan6341
      @zihaofan6341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This. I changed my tensioner pulley recently since my old one shakes like what’s in the video. Then new one goes in and it was steady for a few days then it shakes again. So the shakes are normal as long as it doesn’t make any weird noise.

    I have a b58 340i and just noticed my tensioner pully is moving to the right when revving it.. Only when i rev it. Its a 5/2018 model with only 22.000kms? is this normal?

    • @Will24three
      @Will24three 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every tensioner will move when you rev it. When you rev it, the tensioner moves and makes the belt tighter. If that makes sense.

      This is normal. I don think ant B58 has shown this as an issue yet. Surely eventually, but that engine is built much better than most older BMWs

    Would this apply to the S55 engine as well?

    • @Anthony-qh1xv
      @Anthony-qh1xv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so. almost the same design, but the S55 is closed deck, and some other changes, better rod bearings in the S55, later N55s (2014+) are using those better bearings as well. overall, a good design.

    In colder weather my tensioner/belt force is good. When it is warm outside the passenger seat belt warning comes on saying it needs service. Is this related to the seat or the tensioner?

    So much harder than it looks.
    Stripped the e12 somehow. Hopefully tightened it enough, but torque wrench never clicked
    Gave up on removing the pulley, the t50 was getting twisted without any give from the bolt. So said f it I'll leave the existing pulley on.
