Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another reaction made possible via PATREON with Depeche Mode and their song "It's Called A Heart." It's 1985 and Depeche Mode comes through with a single for their 81'-85' compilation album. It doesn't disappoint, in fact it's one of my favorites, see why now!

Welcome to one of the hidden gems of DM catalogue, that’ll NEVER be played by any radio station, or TV show, or soundtrack, unless somebody decided to show it to the world, as some clever guys did with the infamous ‘The Last Of Us’ show. I dare you to dig in they discography, it’s absolutely jaw-dropping.
I looooove this song! Have 4 or 5 12" maxi vinyls of this single. Don't even own a vinyl player anymore but I kept all the records. The band that always will live in my heart!
Depeche Mode is everything!!!
DM best band ever ! I saw them in Lille last june in concert. It was so electric ! So amazing ! So powerful ! I repete. BEST BAND EVER
Nope. They are not. I repeat-THEY ARE NOT.
Omg vous y étiez aussi !
Si si, c'est le meilleur groupe du monde !.
Haut la main!
Tout leur album sont excelent 🎉🎉🎉
Meilleur groupe de tout les temps.
C'est planant de À à Z.
Inimitable
Seen them twice. Amazing. Taking my 23 Yr old son to see them at the o2 in London in January. Can't wait.
Old Depeche, I remember this one. Cool song and video!
The golden years of DM
You and I have said, 1985 is a truly golden year. Passion, experimentation and FUN. All the risks taken in the late 60s with recording techniques and mixing built up through the 70s with pioneers like Kraftwerk and Moroder and then culminated in this year imo. The song is as we call it in UK "a stonker". Superb driving rhythm with that trademark forboding vocals and mood. My controversial opinion is that by 88 it had started to diminish to overly produced stuff. But praise be the early 80s !! ❤❤
Depeche Mode : leave in silence - love it itself - Get the Balance Right
Don’t worry too much about them not liking a song of theirs. They also don’t like People are People because of artistic reasons as well. I’ve seen them in concert many times and they only played that song once on their Music for the Masses tour… best concert I’ve ever been to.
Love the early albums because they were what I grewup on! And all the songs are so good!
My favourite band since 1982 when I was 13 and my older sister dragged me by the ear to listen to the 6" single of New Life.
My favourite artist until then was David Bowie. Also introduced to me by my sister. ❤
Don't discount DM in the 90s, 2000s, 2010s and even now with the release of Momento Mori.
After Alan Wilder chose to leave the band, I believe DM just kept getting more and more mature and refined. I am not alone there, either.
Dave started writing more songs, they started to feature Marty's guitar more (and in varying styles to boot.)
They also started tailoring their albums more to songs that would work well live. Nobody really saw it coming (including the band,) but DM had somewhat quietly and definitely ironically become one of the greatest live acts EVER! (Ironically, considering they started with a literal tape recorder on stage as thier drum machine. That was 70s tech lol 😮😂)..
But ya, they became one of the greatest live acts in history. It doesn't hurt that they also happen to have, imo, the greatest front man in history. (Id say Freddy, but his career was tragically cut short.)
This band is just so incredibly dynamic. They have such a unique sound and storied history.
The reason they have remained my fav band all these years, is the fact they kept pushing the boundaries. They never stayed in their confort zone.
It's no coincidence that Bowie heavily inspired them and he is still my fav artist of all time.
If you watch their stuff after Songs of Faith & Devotion be sure to watch the live versions. It's that, PLUS, what they did in the 80s that landed them in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Long Live Depeche Mode 🙏 ❤
Ty for doing DM reaction❤❤❤
Not a particular fav of DM songs, but always happy to see a DM reaction on your channel.
The early 80s singles are good, and really so are the late 80s/early 90s singles.
Well so are their mid 80's stuff like this hit single, and their mid hit albums released: Some Great Reward(1984), + Black Celebration(1986)
Are you from the UK?
@@mikekaraoke No, not from UK. I like all the 80s singles, but the comment was directed because he said was looking at the 81-85 Singles (sold as Catching up with DM in the US). So my point was, yes, good album and it has the Some Great Reward singles, and so are the singles immediately following.
Depeche Mode has always had loyal followers but also criticism from music critics. At that time in Europe there were those who accused them of being a group for teenagers and they wanted to be taken more seriously. For that reason they have many more pop songs on B-sides of singles. In case you haven't heard it, try But Not Tonight, in Europe it was the B side of Stripped but in the US it was the A side.
Qué buen tema !!!
Depeche, the best !
Hello Thanks for the reaction ;) New subscriber,

Love this one! 👌 Have it on vinyl.
Hi Dereck. Depeche Mode forever😉 Try their song 'Here is the house'.
Old School music at its awesome best.
But yes, the b-side 'Fly On The Windscreen' is just as good.
One of the first Depeche Mode 12" singles I ever bought - and wasn't disappointed with my purchase.
Depeche really don’t like this song but never thought it was that bad!
True. Same thing with ‘Get The Balance Right’!
Very good song, it would be a good idea to listen to "Condemnation", "Little Fifteen" and "Master and servant" which are also very good songs from this band.
My hope is, that you can react to more Paula Abdul. I noticed that you only have reacted to 1 song. Vibeology. You have asked for more of her stuff.
So, I give you a full list of what you need to react too.

This should help. I know you also haven't done Michael Jackson in a long while and haven't done his sister, Janet Jackson yet.
So hopefully you can start hitting those artists again soon.
'Time After Time' is an amazing ballad. 'All Through The Night' almost as good too.
All of us fans love this song, but unfortunately the members of DM always hated it.
Quotes from the documentary on the DVD of the Black Celebration remaster from 2006:
Gore: "We just didn't have a song that was good and suitable to go on that compilation at that time, and we ended up recording 'It's Called A Heart', which is probably my least favourite track that we ever released."
Alan Wilder: "I remember I was vehemently against it, because I felt it was really going backwards, it was so poppy and trite, and he had other songs that were much better, like 'Fly On The Windscreen', because that was the B-side. It was a much, much stronger song, and I tried to argue to get it flipped over to become the A-side, but I think the first word is "death", and Neil Ferris said "NO". And I was outvoted, really, but I wasn't happy about it, and I sulked for a long time."
Johnny Hallyday "Lady Lucille" please
You said the chart position which was a top 20 hit in the UK, but not in the other countries how comes??
Martin Gore expressed the view that this shouldn’t have featured on any album. Including 81-85. Not one of their best, but it’s DM, what more can I say. DM 4ever.
Not huge, not their best but fine. Let's go 80`s UK clubbing 😊
Mdna tour reaction!
Love youe setup , can u do a bts video of your setup green screen background to mic setup?
I agree with Alan and Martin .my least favourite but i do still like the music but the song doesn't flow. Needed more work on the song style as the lyrics are good. Its just the delivery i don't like.
Derek try Dame Shirley Bassey This is my life. You’ll be stuck
hello Dereck ...can you try 15 Year Old Emma Kok Sings Voilà - André Rieu, Maastricht 2023
hi dereck for halloween please react for : lordi " hard rock hallelujah eurovision song contest winner 2006 finland not the clip but the live version please
Why even bother with this. Do you have to like EVERYTHING you feature, and when has a bloody DM song EVER been criticised anyway, they been treated like they're bloody Gods critically for 100 years now, it's so BORING! Granted their best period was the 80s, and their best run of singles from 'Shake The Disease' onwards till the final single from the last 80s album they did includes this fine song, but come on. Admit it, Dereck, you're not featuring songs to diss and dislike are you. Do you like EVERYTHING EVER MADE?! Who does that?!
Alan hacia maravillas en los arreglos
