Great informative video. Chevy 5.3L. Idles at 16"hg. Throttle blip goes 16"idle to 0 to 21 to 13 and then back to 16 in hg Steady 3000 rpm 16 to 21 and holds there. Does this indicate i have a vac leak and its pronounched at idle? seems low at 16 but all else seems fine.
I like this video it’s very thorough and I just bought a vacuum gauge like this in the video but I use my boost gauge for the STI. Now on my Acura I used the vacuum gauge and the reading at idle was at about 23” of mercury so more vacuum is Better than less vacuum so I just like testing while everything is working so I have a baseline.
What does a vacuum gauge mean at cruising speed half throttle steady foot pressure on the gas pedal. misfiring but needle flutters very fast between and inch or 2 of vacuum. Mine is fluttering very fast between 12 and 11 inches of vacuum during a misfire. Has new plugs wires distributor cap and rotor
Hi, Have a 428 SCJ Ford engine in a 1969 Cougar. The engine was running fine and then all of a sudden low vacuum of 2.5. at idle. Took off the intake and resealed it. No change . Vacuum gauge shows late valve timing. Engine runs fine but not enough vacuum to close the head light. Looks like the cam timing gear must have slipped. I bought the engine as a rebuilt engine. Rebuilder left out the cam dowel pin?
got qugot question for you ....i just rebuild my chevy 350 1990 k5 blazer i converted it over from tbi to carb ..i did a few up grade on the engine high performance intake headers 3' pipes all way back up graded the cam to a howard rattler cam 525 intake lift 535 exhaust duration 227/235 lobe separation 109 center line 103 i still the same factory heads on there i believe they the swirl port heads ..i no i should have went with some better heads but the engine was already done. i put a brand new 1406 edelbrock carb on it right out the box every sence i put that carb on there i been using alot of fuel i set the carb best as posible ..im using a awful lot of fuel just with it iding..i have my pressure regulator set at 5psi..dont no why im losing so mush fuel
Good Day Mr. Bryan , just watched your video and i have a question if you could help me ! I have 1998 Rav4 2.0 3s engine and BMW 1987 E30 320i , I snapped accelerate the engine for both cars but the vacuum didn't drop to zero , not even close to it ! the needle didn't pass the 17 hg ! how do you explain that ? Thanks
Thank you Mr. Bryan this helped a lot with some questions I had. I'm wondering if I had any further questions I could message you. See I am still going through school for automotive school. Some things I still am learning and trying to understand.
Thank you for precious information ....my engine goes to below zero mean -20 what could be problem ..it happens only after 30 min drive on the highway... thank you
It the intake valve is not sealing then you will have a rapidly moving needle, If the exhaust valve is not sealing then not so much. I hope this answers the question for you.
Excellent video. I am teaching high school auto tech and trying to find good videos of measurement tools to show the students.
Glad it was helpful and feel free to use any of my videos in class.

do you have a link for those steps?my guage came with a symptoms chart and this would be great to add to that
Definitely don’t wanna run into this guy at the dmv while tryin’ to pass emissions…

Mr. Bryan, where did you get the adapter to that vacuum gauge ?
also what was the purpose of the unplug injector test and what should be seen?
i wish to say the best vacuum test explanation video ever but i don't want to state before i see others and confirm!
What causes cranking vacuum to drop regularly
When I turn engine off the vacuum does not drop to zero it stays at the same as when it was running. 2arfe Camry
Very good info. So do you have one for checking carb? And timing?
Not yet
Thank you Mr. Bryan this helped a lot with some questions I had. I'm wondering if I had any further questions I could message you. See I am still going through school for automotive school. Some things I still am learning and trying to understand.
Yes you can
i realize I am quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Boston Archie flixportal :D
@Myles Terrance thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it !!
@Boston Archie no problem =)
Gold!
what camera you used for recording? and how you hold it? Its quality very nice and smooth. Thanks in advance
I used a GoPro 5 for this video with a mount on my head. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Where did you get the instruction sheet on vacuum testing?
It is a lab sheet that I modified for my use.
@@MrBryan-km5nn can i get a copy ?
Thank You Mr. Bryan, Will This Exact Procedure Work For A Honda Civic 2009? Thank You, For The Video (:
Yes it will, but you will have to use the gas pedal to open the throttle since the 2009 is drive by wire.
I have a 1970 C10 with automatic transmission. Do I do an vacuum test in gear? Or neutral?
All of the tests shown are in neutral, sorry for the late response I have been out of town.
@@MrBryan-km5nn don't be sorry, you gave me advice, not something that not working

Mr Bryan, can you tell me if insufficient valve clearance (1) will cause an erratic vacuum reading at idle?
It the intake valve is not sealing then you will have a rapidly moving needle, If the exhaust valve is not sealing then not so much. I hope this answers the question for you.
Well then I have an intake valve on no.3 that needs clearancing.
Sir if vvti failure what is reading
