I lived on canal road behind Chuck Dedeaux’s furniture store after Katrina. I stood the rocking chair back up and poured concrete around the bottom and put the roofs back on catfish Charlie’s etc. I miss living on the coast.
Thank you for the easy instructions. I have a fairly new (6 months) battery not holding a charge on a 2001 Camry with 200k miles. I’ve never checked an alternator before so was hesitant to try by myself. Now I can! It’s the next step then on to the other possible causes of battery drain. Great video!
When you where testing for voltage drop was the car on and at idle or with all accessories one? Great video. At idle and no accessories on my reading is 14.95V so i it over charging?
Yes it was running at idle. Accessories don’t have to be on. You’re basically testing the cables and connections when doing the voltage drop test. 14.95 volts while running is still acceptable. Once you get above 15 volts and higher then the alternator could be over charging which is hard on the battery.
Have you done the mult- meter test from HF? I have several free meters as gifts HF. Sit as many as you have an rest off same battery at same time to see how accurate they are to each other?
My battery voltage at the morning is 12,20, but when I remove battery from the car,and measure Volter after few minutes, the voltage is 12.55-12.65. Is this normal?
It's normal to have a small degree of that if the car isn't asleep, meaning the computer isn't asleep. A very small amount of draw is normal, but if you begin to notice the battery dying after a day or so of just sitting there, then you could have a parasitic draw causing to much drain on the battery while just sitting there, which is not normal and needs to be addressed.
Is it starting up and running, or is it reading 0.1 while cranking? The starter will pull down to about 9.6 volts while cranking but anything lower than that then you have a bad battery or a bad cable causing some serious voltage drop
Great video To the point Quick and easy I have a 110 amp on my F350 super duty. Do you recommend I get a higher amp alternator if I pull a fifth wheel and have truck and rv lights,ac,radio and phone chargers on when traveling at night?
Your F350 came with a substantial alternator since it most likely came with a towing package with a towing module for trailer brakes and etc. Before I purchased a higher amp alternator, I would first see if the one you already have can easily handle the added load without having any excessive voltage drop.
I think a better name for this video would be Continuity Check. With the ignition off, use the resistance check function (center setting upside down horseshoe). Should read 0 ohms (and give a beep).
Very good information 👍😊. I especially like how you showed the Voltage Drop tests, looking for bad connections 👍😊.
Glad it was helpful, and I appreciate you watching!
An honest straight foword video.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. My Jeep died tonight and this will help me troubleshoot it. If you're near the Target in D'Iberville I might need some help haha.
Well your in my neck of the woods for sure

Thank You Rus!!!👍👍 Happy 4th of July Brother.✌✌✌
Hope you're having a good one and thanks for watching Damoose
Happy 4th of July Rus!. Another helpful video, a tool I have and clueless about 😂. Definitely helpful! Cheers brother 🍻
Thanks! You too!
Indeed - very good information to know & how to utilize a volt meter. I'll definitely give this a try. Thank you sir!
You’re welcome and thank you for watching!
Great explanation. Have a great 4th.

No I haven't. All I use is Fluke multimeters. They are one of the most accurate multimeters in the world at 0.5% to 0.025%
0.0 volts from alternator to positive terminal?

Flukes are one of the best in the mobile field , and for bench top models also ....
That's all I will depend on. Been using them for many years. Thanks for watching Boo!
What does it mean when it reads 12.3 volts on the battery when car is off but 0.1 volts when car starts
Is it starting up and running, or is it reading 0.1 while cranking? The starter will pull down to about 9.6 volts while cranking but anything lower than that then you have a bad battery or a bad cable causing some serious voltage drop
Good video Rus thank YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......PS when are you gonna put up some cooking videos ???
Thanks Frank. I’m shooting a video tomorrow for the cooking channel. Should be out by Monday
Thanks man 🎉
Any time! Thanks for watching

Thanks for this video I thought 1385 would have been a bad number but it’s fine.

It’s just a simple voltage drop test to test for bad connections or bad cables.
It’s all good now! Lol!
Yeah after spending $129 on a new battery lol. It lasted almost 6 years so that's actually pretty darn good.
Clear explanation just subscribed to your channel
