Yes, I like the Pentastar V-6 in the Ram. It's a good combination of power and performance with decent MPG. Of course that's a sea level. Up in Denver the Ford Turbo V-6 will have the advantage as the turbo helps makeup for some of the power loss due to lower air density.
I ordered one... Roman, you helped make my decision with your reviews of it. 2013 Sport Crew Cab 4x4 with the optional 8 speed, air suspension, and RAM boxes and all the tech. Should be a good daily driver. Out the door was just shy of $41,000 for those wondering.
Because it's something to drive. I have a 1962 ford falcon, 1986 mustang gt, and a 2011 ram 1500 express. There is nothing like a truck. It's just different to drive, I never tow anything but you never know when you'll need to move stuff. No matter who you are you need a truck, plus these trucks are badass. Who wouldn't want one.
an impressive collection. you've every right to be proud. but the comment was more geared toward personal responsibility in vehicle ownership. for you, i'd like to make a suggestion: add a fuel efficient vehicle to round out your petrol waste. use it as a commuter as opposed to the rest to better preserve them, and reserve the truck for when you're actually putting it to use. again, this is only a suggestion, and congrats on your collection.
I"m 60 and have owned every truck made except a Dodge. I was in construction (brickmason) most of my life. Last March I brought a 2012 Ram Hemi Big Horn, My next truck will be another Ram, it 's the best riding truck I have ever owned.
Excellent review as always Roman! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the 2013 Rams after you've had one for a week! I have a 2009 Ram 1500 and LOVE it! These 2013's sound like it will take the Ram 1500's from a 9 to a 9.5.
@7:08 I just bought the 2017 RAM Express w/V6 305HP. My truck will do mostly city driving so fuel economy was paramount. Its got plenty of power (I had trucks in the 80's so a V6 with 305HP is stellar). Aggressive front end looks and good styling inside. I don't need real wood inside for a work truck. Any of the big three trucks are excellent choices dare I say even the newer Tundra's. The 8spd transmission is well designed so far with respects to shift points etc. don't even know its there until a hill climb then the + / - selectors are used if necessary to maintain a gear.
I think Dodge, oops I mean Ram, hit it out of the park on this model. I really like the Air-Suspension traveling from 8.7" up to 10.7" (matching the Nissan Titan) for highest ground clearance, and according to Ram TH-cam Channel, it has the best departure and break-over angle of any current 1-ton. I wish they'd offer the Bright Honeycomb Grille as an option for mid-range models, but with an interior like that it makes the Silverado look ten years old. Great vid Roman.
4:59 - I guess you meant Laramie, not Lariat ;) 6:45 - hmmm... I believe that the Laramie, Sport and maybe some other versions have 20" wheels as standard, you mentioned about 19" what sounded as if these were the biggest available. Can't wait for the full review!
To me, Ford has the best trucks out there now. They have the highest payload and towing capacity, the most models to choose from, and they have the most torque and horsepower our of any other company. The Laramie Big Horn edition is nice, but I would choose either the Ford Harley-Davidson edtion or the Limited package for me. Also, Ram's new V6 may end up getting 25 MPG on the highway, but I'll bet money it have the same stats as Ford's Ecoboost.
JUST BOUGHT A 2011 LARIAT LIMITED , VERY HAPPY WITH IT ..RIDES BEAUTIFUL AND BRAKES NICE ..COULD BE BETTER WITH THE HANDLING THOUGH,,,GUESS ITS THE 22"S ...THE NEW DODGE RAM LOOKS VERY NICE ,AT LEAST THERE TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH FORD ...NOT LIKE THE CHEVYS,I SEE ALOT OF PEOPLE NAG ABOUT GAS ,,,THESE ARE TRUCKS GUYS ...I HAVE A 6.2 LITRE WITH 13 MPG..NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT GAS MILEAGE OR I WOULD"NT HAVE BOUGHT IT.I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I LIKE BAD ASS TRUCKS AND THIS TRUCK IS A AWESOME TRUCK..
It didn't seem like you had that great of a launch, honestly. If you were to rev it just under the point of the tires breaking loose, then launch it (which it didn't sound like you did) i could almost guarantee the truck would get a low 7-second 0-60. All i've got on mine is an air intake and exhaust and i've timed it at 6.5. Granted, it is a 2011 with the 5-speed. Not sure if that would effect the difference positively or not.
I don't see how milage is the more relevant comparison point. Price and power output is what makes the Pentastar and the 3.7 litre Ford V6 relevant to compare. They are both entry level normally aspirated V6 trucks.
Oh I don't now, only millions of people. Every heard of a boat? Camper? Work truck? C'mon buddy, loads of people tow. They also haul, as in load up the bed, not necessarily a trailer. They're fantastic 4x4 vehicles, for people who live in rural areas, travel heavily rutted dirt-roads, and pull little cars out of ditches when the snow starts to fall. I know a lot of people buy unnecessarily large trucks, but other people buy unnecessarily fast cars, enormous SUV's, and miniature EV's.
@373axle It's where they are testing the ram, if you watch some of the other vids they are about a mile above sea level causing loss of power I believe
I agree. But, I'd say diesels in America really turned a corner for the better when Ford introduced the first PowerStroke diesel. I think that was about 1994 or 95 if I'm not mistaken. I know I was in high school at the time, and I graduated in 1995.
You're right, the Titan is either a crew or a king cab only. Also, what I'll ding Nissan is the fact that they use a 5-speed auto, kinda out of touch with most manufacturers; most use a 6-speed auto and the Ram 1500, as demonstrated by Roman, uses an 8-speed auto with the HEMI V-8.
We test 'em the way people drive them. If you want a completely perfect 0-60 test with 1 gallon of gas and a 120 pound driver...plenty of those to be had. But you'll never ever be able to replicate it in the real world. This to us seems pretty silly and very unrealistic.
One way to see if this truck is capable is to put it against the two top beast in the 1/2 ton pick up in work load and performance and braking. The 5.7L Tundra and the 6.2L Silverado are the two top beast in the 1/2 ton class.
I think a 8 speeds trans is a good ideal , i like the new look but i prefer the new f-150 headlight and grill . There is some nice feature on the ram . Im a bit suprise about the 0-60 , My 2012 F-150 ecoboost does it in 6.6 sec, i was expecting the ram to be a bit closer then that .
oh yea, i love those little bus things! whenever i see businesses using those, i always have a bit of respect for them. you mean like the ford sprint, or whatever it is? it's some sort of ford.
@romanmicagearguy i loved the review if you could do a review on the Chrysler 200 s with the Pentastar v6. that is where the v6 is the best. and i would love to see a 0-60 test on itat sea level.
That's quite a generalized statement. Do you think every single american citizen who buys a truck, purchases one with a V-8? No. F-150 V-6 Turbo selling like hot-cakes, Tacoma and Frontier only available with I-4 and V-6, GMC and Chevy also both make smaller trucks with smaller motors. This is 1-ton pickups, go to F250, Sierra 2500 HD and you'll find two extremely impressive Diesel motors available. Those trucks are often purchased with diesels b/c of need for higher power.
i love that car so much but what is sad that they are only bringing the lamarine and the slt to my country ( kingdom of bahrain) i would really like to get the sport type thank you for the video its amazing
thats the old 4.7l magnum v8..... its been around since the late 90s, when they first came out they only had around 230hp but, the new 3.6l pentastar v6 makes 306 hp and the 5.7l hemi v8 makes 400hp and trust me they fly
But unfortunately, the "supposedly" Fuel Effiecent V6 f150 is putting out the lower Millage than a Standard V6 Ram, Thats why the Pentastar is being compared to the Ecoboost F150.... Ram is getting greater Millage than some Crossovers and Minivans
If truck manufacturers would SELL them, we'd buy them. We can't buy what isn't sold. I'd buy a diesel in a mid-sized truck. I'd leave work right NOW if I found out Honda, Nissan or Toyota would drop a diesel in a Ridgeline, Frontier (Navara) or Tacoma (Hi-Lux). I don't know if that'll ever happen. Ford and GM made such horrible diesels in the 70's and 80's that Americans really got turned off diesels. And current diesel fuel prices to that, and manufacturers don't want to take the risk.
To me, if you want ratings for these trucks -- for those loyal owners of the brands, it'll be "Buy It" for each brand. There's something for everybody there. Let's also add the Toyota Tundra and the Nissan Titan; their only drawback? Their V8s aren't as fuel efficient as the domestics. How bout that for a five-way mash-up?
I love how the tester never says the axle ratio on the hemi. 8.1 or 7.6 is pathetic. My 5.4 2010 f150 was listed in carndriver@ 7.8. And it is no rocket ship...
Diesels are way more complex and unreliable, especially turbodiesels. Not to mention the bi-turbo ones. In fact big diesel engines do not consume that much less fuel and their base price is usually higher.
Rams drive smooth and have always had deceptive speed. Great truck best looking truck. Bout time they put the air lift suspension in it. Mpg was never a good thing with this or any full size truck. Real world driving nets 12-13mpg combined. Sure on the highway at speed you can get an actual of 20mpg but thats not the avg. Ram needs to offer a regular cab 4x4 express with air suspension $ a ram box call it what ever as a package and sell it for $20k. Wont matter what the gas prices are.
@wildbill23c they didn't have a choice it was a electrically shifting ( I believe can't remember ) but I read on a press statement that form them to do it right it had to be and electric shifter they could have done it like in the 300 looks like a shifter but ur not its like a bmw but that is hard to do with gloves hence the knob
cool truck for, I don't trust all that tech for ride height. I think think it's gonna be a pain in the a** in a few years.... So far nothing has shifted my buying decision from the F-150
like i said, "if you do, that's great". the examples you're giving are the people i'm obviously not talking about. trucks are awesome, and serve an important purpose... commuting to and from work, by yourself in a gigantic gas guzzler simply for a sense of security, or cool looks is irresponsible, and wasteful. that's all i'm saying, and it's only my opinion.
Ford F 150 with ecoboost only gets 21-22 mpg. Ram is at 25mpg How is that the same... Fords are overpriced. Their ecoboost is not much different than their 5.0 motor. In 2013 Dodge Ram is the winner. Chevy Nissan Toyota they're all do for a remake. They need to make a kick ass truck that gets better than 25 mpg. Better not the same. And they need to keep the price down. Which Dodge has been able to do. 40 k for starting price on a truck that's ridiculous.
Well, old CrownVic you can say bye bye, new one still comes with v8 thou. Europeans invented more expansive gas, so in order to be practical you have to do something. I'm am from central European country, although i'm using gasoline pickup truck now and i don't wanna go back to little diesel vw, sorry. It's like being every day riding FedEx delivery van. Not everything on small efficient European engine is great. And same goes for v8 hemi.
4:57 he calls the Ram a Lariat. How dare he didnt do a re-take and call it a Laramie. How dare you Roman. How dare you get a Ford name mixed up with a Dodge.
Unfortunately most pickups are sold and really never used as a truck. By just to haul our big butts to and from work and the market and occasionally Lowes or Home depot. I see more woman driving decked out extended cabs to groceries and taking prime parking up front sticking way out. It's a status thing. LOOK I GOT A PICKUP. and I have to agree the HUMMER was way worse. When I see the occasional HUMMER NOW I just want to say PIG! And it's not because I cannot afford one or am jealous. The BALAN
wait wait wait, that part is from the chevy, dodge and ford mash up, a lot of these clips, are go watch it, they test a lariat with ecoboost, and then go to that clip, trust me, hes not a moron.
Yes, I like the Pentastar V-6 in the Ram. It's a good combination of power and performance with decent MPG. Of course that's a sea level. Up in Denver the Ford Turbo V-6 will have the advantage as the turbo helps makeup for some of the power loss due to lower air density.

the red one is sick, love the all body color trucks

I noticed this too cause im all about the Ram im getting one when im 16 but they sound similar and he tests both of them so don't give him a hard time
I'm sticking with my 2010 Ford f150 tow every single day for work 232,000 miles and running like new
You're right, the Titan is either a crew or a king cab only. Also, what I'll ding Nissan is the fact that they use a 5-speed auto, kinda out of touch with most manufacturers; most use a 6-speed auto and the Ram 1500, as demonstrated by Roman, uses an 8-speed auto with the HEMI V-8.

My 0-60 time in the 2011 Ram Sport Hemi is 6.0 sec flat with 1/2 tank of gas and 2 occupants. Power Brake to 2K and let off for best et.
@Austin A because you have to keep the little Eco light on the dash on that means it is on 4cyl you can also feel it
oh yea, i love those little bus things! whenever i see businesses using those, i always have a bit of respect for them. you mean like the ford sprint, or whatever it is? it's some sort of ford.

I have a 2014 ram 1500 black express hemi 4x4 6 speed and I get 18 city and 23 highway give or take .5 of a mile
its a sad day when dual exhaust is "badass" on a truck, it should be the norm.
I notice you don't brake torque when you do your 0-60. That'll give you way slower numbers. Motorweek got around 7.6 with the 3.6 Pentastar V6.
If I don't I'm blaming you! ;) I never drove or even sat in one before ordering... I'm that sure I'll like it.
i love that car so much but what is sad that they are only bringing the lamarine and the slt to my country ( kingdom of bahrain) i would really like to get the sport type thank you for the video its amazing
noooooooooooooooooooooooooo thats one thing i loved about dodge ram is how they didnt put cup holders in the arm rest!!!
Some people just like trucks, plus they really are extremely handy :)
thats the old 4.7l magnum v8..... its been around since the late 90s, when they first came out they only had around 230hp but, the new 3.6l pentastar v6 makes 306 hp and the 5.7l hemi v8 makes 400hp and trust me they fly
A Diesel Option will be comming to the Ram soon, ( the VM 3.0)
I would think the Pentastar competed with the 3.7 litre normally aspirated V6 from Ford? :)
They still use the 6 speed in the 5.7 hemi, not 8 speed.
I hope they make a diesel in the 1500!
But unfortunately, the "supposedly" Fuel Effiecent V6 f150 is putting out the lower Millage than a Standard V6 Ram, Thats why the Pentastar is being compared to the Ecoboost F150.... Ram is getting greater Millage than some Crossovers and Minivans
the 4.7 has one more Year till its Discontinued.. the 5.7 Remains after 2014 and a New Hemi (6.2) will be in Gas HD's
I was wondering if u can get standard versions of this
Read seats in crewcab? [like the Toyota Tundra] will they recline and/or adjust fore/aft for more room? thank you.
Am debating between the express or the slt

Yep this truck is way better !!!
@romanmicagearguy Did you get to try the Pentastar? If so, how was it?
I think u should do more dodge videos cause I'm looking for a dodge and love these cause
Isn't the Hemi only available with the 6 speed auto for '13?
Wow ram quality quality quality
To me, if you want ratings for these trucks -- for those loyal owners of the brands, it'll be "Buy It" for each brand. There's something for everybody there. I just bought the 2013 Ram 1500, I get 14.5mpg average. (USE CRUISE CONTROL) lol. Using cruise you get great fuel economy.
Thanks for the tip. Just got the 2016 blackout edition and love it to death. Have not fiddled with cruise control yet.
It doesn't help actually my friend has a ecoboost we took it up to the mountains and a year older v8 and they basically tied on fuel economy.
my goal the first ram hellcat.
That would be one of the best vehicle ever made!!
Diesels are way more complex and unreliable, especially turbodiesels. Not to mention the bi-turbo ones. In fact big diesel engines do not consume that much less fuel and their base price is usually higher.

8.1! Whoa that's not good. In motor trends video didn't the v6 do in the 7's? Can't remember
The top trim of the Ram sounds like a car. Air suspension, push button start, real wood, rotary shifter, etc. Nice though.
@wildbill23c they didn't have a choice it was a electrically shifting ( I believe can't remember ) but I read on a press statement that form them to do it right it had to be and electric shifter they could have done it like in the 300 looks like a shifter but ur not its like a bmw but that is hard to do with gloves hence the knob
because we can do it.
best 0-60 in my 2012 ram reg cab is 5.3 with 300 feet above sea level.
cool truck for, I don't trust all that tech for ride height. I think think it's gonna be a pain in the a** in a few years.... So far nothing has shifted my buying decision from the F-150
i'm obviously not directing my comment towards people like you, sir.
R/t still going to be available?
may get up to 25mpg with pentastar but the f150 ecoboost has much more power... plus id rather drive a ford than a dodge anyday.
Yeah I know but that knob is just tacky as hell in a truck like this, however I must say I prefer it than having a console mounted shifter.
You called it a Lariat, not Laramie.
faster accelaration?
Nissan NV200 has the Nissan-Renault developed B plataform
It's fuel efficient? Man, what did you smoke?
you din't check 0-60 on the chev
Hemis don't come with 8 speed only V6
i agree because i love dodge
like i said, "if you do, that's great". the examples you're giving are the people i'm obviously not talking about. trucks are awesome, and serve an important purpose... commuting to and from work, by yourself in a gigantic gas guzzler simply for a sense of security, or cool looks is irresponsible, and wasteful. that's all i'm saying, and it's only my opinion.
lariat is ford you just tested a Laramie just fyi
air suspension!?!?!?!? who isnt getting this truck!?!?!? all the tech for just a tad more than 41k. should compare to GM
Fastest truck ever made
WTF 8 speed auto with a 5.7 but they can't do that for the Charger? :/
diesel will be comin' out within the next couple of years
Because you are an American!
oops
'cause we can.
Diesel is expensive here compared to petrol.
Ford F 150 with ecoboost only gets 21-22 mpg. Ram is at 25mpg How is that the same... Fords are overpriced. Their ecoboost is not much different than their 5.0 motor. In 2013 Dodge Ram is the winner. its a shame it does not have turbo....in my city it d lose 30 % of hp.
Secondly, why do all americans use petrol V8's for their trucks. Diesel all the way
Well, old CrownVic you can say bye bye, new one still comes with v8 thou. Europeans invented more expansive gas, so in order to be practical you have to do something. diesel better but i guess b/c you have to add the treatment to it
For me the ad was a Chevy ad
its because for some reason they don't let us have diesel engines out here It sucks face only in 2500's and 3500's
we have lots of diesels
4:57 he calls the Ram a Lariat. How dare he didnt do a re-take and call it a Laramie. How dare you Roman. How dare you get a Ford name mixed up with a Dodge.
