Hi Paul and everybody reading this, this video is very encouraging to make the switch to ev but 1 thing that's holding me back is the possibility of the insurer to write off in the event of a damage in the batteries, be it minor or major , your thoughts pls🙏
At this stage, EV might be cheaper to run compared to ICE but in no time they will increase the electricity charges. And the cost of running a EV become expensive again. Just look at our house hold electricity charges.
Three years ago petrol here was $2.1/l. Now it’s over $2.4 and rising. In essence the cost per km for petrol cars is also rising, and at a higher rate than cost per km for BEVs over same period.
I think we should really reconsider how we are pushing this movement and the people involved, it seems as if it’s currently pushed by people who may have a biased view on this matter, transparency is greatly valued when it comes to new initiatives, some examples are the points regarding possibility of fires, maybe be more upfront regarding how spontaneous the fire is and the relative possibility of escape etc

I am more concerned about the explosion of batteries during charging, not driving, but charging. You can say BMS all you want, no car manufacturer, especially Tesla will want to touch you once your warranty expires. Another scenario of concern is when u get into an accident, I foresee most car manufacturer will charge you for the entire battery$$$$$. Until these stupid issues get sorted through standardization, I won't touch EVs with a ten foot pole.
One of the "advantages" at least for current batteries is that they contain a lot of rare materials. This is an advantage because it very quickly becomes too expensive to dig up making recycling cheaper by comparison so I expect this will go pretty well. The need for batteries will only grow and if recycling is the most profitable way to get new ones that's where the investment will go.
By the same logic, batteries will get more expensive and they constitute the main cost of an EV. So the EV now will costs more, then will you still buy? Assuming petrol cars costs comes down due to competition from EVs, will you still consider them? 🤔 just a thought
can the grid handle evening peak times? bi-directional charging maybe? With Singapore committing to greener energy sources and PARIS accord quotas, where do we get that from?
the grid can handle more than we can use:) search it up. with greater efficienies, less natural is used to generate power, more efforts have also been taken with solar panels in our rivers
just take a look at plug share, most MY charging point are those 3 pin house socket, you are definitely not charging your EV to 100% in a few hours time

Most EV chargers are interoperable, in fact within SG itself...they are standardized to use type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC). Hence, you can head down to Shell / Greenlots, SP Charging or even fall back on 3 pin plugs to charge your EV. Hope that clarifies it! :)
The connecting heads of the cable are not standardised. Each EV maker has their own design. The are adapters provided in the aftermarket segment but it’s no sense to carry a bag of adapters around in your boot.

BYD, Hyundai, Toyota, BMW i3) and the IEC has also set out EV guidelines to standardise charging (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3). If you plan to get a Porsche, Tesla, etc, you may find compatibility issues. Nonetheless, common brands as mentioned above are cross compatible. The above would also justify why SP Charging Stations and Shell have standardized on using Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC) inlet
its dumb, it takes much more energy to convert air into hydrogen then convert them to eletricity stored in batteries and then to fuel cells to drive the motor losing 80% of the energy. compared to pure ev of an efficiency of 80% and above

Based on US gov records, the petrol vehicle equivalent stat is 1 fire in every less than 20 million miles driven. To me, those are sufficient numbers. I’m not sure what ur threshold of sufficiency of numbers is. But 6 digit number of cars and 8-9 digit number of combined mileage is quite substantial.
Are the EV charging plugs able to be physically locked after plugging in? It will be awful if you were supposed to charge it overnight but have some prankster unplug it. Or maybe even another inconsiderate EV owner who wants to use the charger and decides to unplug yours

Without a doubt, EVs will eventually rule the roads. In the meantime, hybrids are the best option. Nissan has the E-power.
