    gas price in Malaysia is less than 0.5 USD . and compact family car range from less than 8000USD, why would they need to pay more than 20000usd for EV and spend 0.4usd/kwh charging with waiting time 1hr or more?

      Gas price is cheap because it’s subsidised. When the subsidy is removed, we’ll depend heavily on solar instead of fossil fuel and hopefully at that time, we can mitigate gas price fluctuations globally

      Malaysian government is giving huge subsidy for fossil fuel industry. Every year, the government gives 7 billion USD, tax payers money to fossil fuel companies to artificially lower the fuel prices. Fuel prices would be doubled without this subsidy. Also, just to refine a liter of petrol or diesel it requires 1 kWh of electricity ( just to refine). It takes a lot more electricity and other resources to explore, dig, pump oil, transport to refinery, from refineries to pump and pumping fuel. If we can stop all these, we will surplus electricity to convert all transportation to EV

    I have an EV and I drive it daily
    It has been 1 year and so far I have never had to go to the station to charge. NO worries and queing at kiosk to "top up"!! 😎
    Running costs are super low and there is hardly any maintenance except for tyres and washer fluids
    As I sleep the car is being charged so that by morning the car is fully charged so there was never a need to use the chargers outside unless I go for a long trips.
    That is when I probably will need to do a stop somewhere and charge for half an hour and I think that should be enough.
    I think probably if I drive from Penang to Singapore it probably takes 3 or 4 strategic kopi stops.
    If I install solar panels I think it will be super cheap to run.
    Especially in Malaysia where the sun is so good throughout the year.
    I lurve my EV!! 😊

    charging not working is the worst. hopefully the maintenance need to keep up. 20min to 80% (min200km) is a must to compete with old tech. How can you want consumers pay more but get less?

    There's 7 million plus cars in Greater Kuala Lumpur for a population of 7 plus million people. Thats 1 car for 1 person. Thats the highest percentage in Southeast Asia. Therefore energy efficient vehicles are important for a country like Malaysia.

At the moment, EVs are the most promising technology going forward. Toyota has been promising and promising, whats the results of that? They are still selling the LC from the 80s. Is that the way forward? They are in fact on a 200billion plus debt with nothing to show for.

      Not even close to Bangkok or Greater Bangkok. From the Interior ministry office.. there are 5 million people in Bangkok(registered housing 2022) and by the Department of transport, it has 11,370143 cars are in Bangkok.

      @@sokapokvic2514 According to the Thai Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, there are about 10 million plus cars to 10 million plus people, which means the ratio is about the same as Kuala Lumpur. To be fair, Kuala Lumpur has closer to 8 million cars to 7 million population, so density wise it is the highest along with Bangkok. All other cities in Southeast Asia have lower car to people density than these two cities.

      bring more new problems to us. The fact and the matter is public transportation is the best solutions to all of this especially Busess and trains. Our public transportations is still far behind fix all of those infrastructure first then continue to focus on others.

    ICE is ground floor, EV is 1 floor above.
    In my opinion, hybrid is the staircase to EV. Hence I am driving a hybrid. Save fuel, less emission, no hassle or risk of wrestling for charger.

    Small country like Malaysia and Singapore are perfect place to adopt EV. There is no range anxiety since most EV have range of around 300 miles and some have longer range. You drive from Singapore to KL is about 215 miles. A NIO ES8 has a 360 miles range. For those who don't know NIO is a leading luxury EV brand. Not sure if they are on sales in Malaysia or Singapore.

    The biggest bluff auto industry tells you is that the only problem with car is the way how it is powered. Malaysia has some of the worst traffic crash rate. Having EVs dont solve this. We need less cars on the road. The greener choice is always a combination of public transport (buses and trains), walking, and bicycling. Urban planners and traffic engineers need to work together to build urban and suburban areas that dont force people to use a car to get groceries.

      Malaysia is not Singapore. what you are saying is just too stupid to realise. KL has as many mass transit line as Singapore now. that didn't really do much because their population is simply less dense. furthermore you are missing the point. this is not a traffic program, this is a job program. why did Singapore allow Dyson to setup shop here? it was also in the hope that they may produce EV here. and that failed. if you build EV, you will build battery and motors, which can be use in other industry and make your entire economy more competitive... you think you smarter than the government? no, you just don't understand what the government is after...

      I strongly agree with you too. Plus, cars,buses,lorries are also very dangerous when kids cross the roads. Not only safety, but financially it doesn't make sense because the heavier the vehicle is, the more frequent you will need to maintain the roads. That's why padestrains pavement could last for decades without much maintenance. The more roads we have the further away each building is from each other

Building infrastructure for pedestrians, creating infill development, expanding public transport, all create jobs while improving life quality via lowering living cost. Heck, gov could also invest in developing rail technology to reduce dependency on imported rail tech! Jobs should not be created for the sake of creating jobs. Jobs should be created to benefit the rakyat without robbing from the future generation. And investing in EV would most likely rob the future generation with its insane inefficiency of raw materials and precious metals. 1 EV battery that benefits one owner = 150 ebike batteries!

    MY has the largest automotive industry in SEA. From designing assembling , manufacturing, supplying and procuring Naturally it's easier for them to pursue EV technology..They have sufficient skilled and knowledgeable work force that is needed to propel the EV technology.

    Governments around the world need to limit our tax cards with bigger batteries. It's wasting resource and doesn't help by carrying all that extra battery. We need more fast chargers. Most people don't need to travel 200 miles on a day. Let's cut it in half. Tesla and others wants to go fast by having bigger batteries. Do we need to go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds? It's just wasted energy for a small gain. Let the rich pay for damaging the environment. I love driving fast, but will do less often if I know that it's going to cost twice as much.

    Fuel is still cheaper and more convenient. Long way to go to convince the majority to make the move to EV. Somemore it’s not that much cleaner since our power grid is still produced by coal.

      Its not cleaner, but you get cleaner cities lol. fuel is like burning coal but at your home fuming up your home. Dumb idea right? Its indoctrinated into the human psyche thats its ok for the last century by clever pshychologists, business & big oil. Fact is, you cannot change how you think if you keep believing the propaganda and not thinking with an open mind. At least with EVs, solar power, hydro, wind are essentially much less polluting and holds more potential for the future than to continue burning fossil fuels well into the next century.

      1st All Electricity Needs to be Renewable. Is it So yet ? NO
      Then Power Grid needs to be Upgraded together with Sub Stations.
      Last of All is to Implement EVs, NOT the Other Way Around
      Putting the Horse before the Cart Does NOT Work.
      EVs are still POWERED by Fossil fuel.
      Also the EXTREME Harm Done to Mother Earth from the extraction of rare materials

      @@junyuan8962if the goal is to encourage more ppl to buy EV then the condo need to install many chargers which again it cause another issue which is fighting for charging station. Just like how China is now even though they r miles ahead of us in EV usage and facilities, ppl r still fighting for one. Unless charging can be extremely fast like pumping petrol, if not then there will be a lot of backlog waiting to charge the car once more and more ppl adopt EV. Inconvenience is the issue here now at this stage.
      I’m all for EV but this phase now is just too prelim for us because lack of facilities and longer charging time compare to petrol. Ppl can’t keep pushing for EV but the main concern not being tackle or cater for properly.

    Malaysia’s petrol price is so cheap and I don’t think EV will be very popular within a short period. Perhaps , when the time comes every petrol station in Malaysia will provide charging station then the EV will become popular in Malaysia.

      You're right it won't. But It'll be popular once we have adequate EV infrastructure. Malaysia is not a big country, so EV's with limited range is not a really a big problem as opposed to big country like the US. Right now there is an incentive to have ICE vehicles around due to Petronas, but if we want to transition to EVs, it would be a quick process. We could just sprinkle superchargers around and that would be enough really.

    I dont think so Malaysia will moving fast toward EV Car user. This is because government control the price. They set the price of new EV must more than 100k Ringgit Malaysia. They are covering Proton and Perodua local car industries. For more important in every where cities and town must easily found EV reapair shops or kedai pomen EV cars. EV cars component part from tyre, gear fluids, EV motors, AC parts, Doors, Electronic Dash board etc are almost different.

    the EVs are here to save the car industry, not the planet. If govts around the world really cared about decarbonising, they would have started with more public transportation and bike infrastructure. We will always need cars, no denying that but our gross dependency on cars is ridiculous and just not sustainable.

      @@mysticdreamworksonly works now because less EV. If there are a lot of EV cars, facilities won’t be enough. End of the day, fast charging need about 45 min to an hour, sorry if I’m wrong. U can of course charge 30 minute and continue to drive but then have to do the same again and again twice. Ppl still compare to petrol literally like less than 5 minute and is all done.

      @@davidc2758 not really, when there is demands, then there is more charger will be installed soon. take example of china and several country in europe. And what world you are living still thinking ev charging need 45 minutes? nowadays EV can charge within or below 30 minutes using fast charger. Hence with large capacity battery which also mean far range above 400km even up to 700km for single charge which almost equivalent of twice or thrice time petrol tank . The tech moving fast, very fast.

So that will need more facilities along the highway if not mistaken there are about 1246 public charging station but seems most public charging station are situated heavily at KL and Selangor? Do correct if I'm wrong if 50% are at mostly used highway. Reality is in malaysia lots of ppl still prefer petrol car. Even give u a 15 to 20 min full charge, still longer than petrol. If every perspective is good the demand will soar without much marketing. There's a reason why most user here are not into EV yet. I'm all for EV even considering one in the next few years but for now the infra is not there yet, not to mentioned petrol still being subsidies and pumping petrol is still much much much faster.
      If charging can be a 5 minute task and fully charge, guaranteed sales will soar sky high, and 2025 the aim is have 10k charging point but till then most ppl are interested but is a wait and see

    personally, I think the greener choice is always in the middle, PHEV.
    You have the choice to use EV all the time, but you have ICE when you really need it.
    Less pollution from making smaller battery but less air pollution since most of the time people will use EV mode.
    A lot of EV manufacturer is putting bigger battery because bigger battery will have longer lifetime and problem with charging infrastructure, so bigger batter will help a lot if you have less charging infrastructure.
    Meanwhile, PHEV is better from overall environment standpoint.
    You can always use EV mode if you want to save gasoline spending but you can always use ICE if you cannot find charging station or you are going out far.
    The most complaint about EV car is they need to plan when and where they need to go since you cannot instantly charge your car and charging infrastructures are few and even fewer that can supercharge.
    The biggest downside of PHEV though is the price since it has both ICE and EV components.
    But I believe the big batter of EV itself can cost similar to ICE engines.
    I feel like the combination of good EV motor with decent battery size plus weak ICE engine will sufficient for entry level car.
    heck... built in ICE engine is mostly to charge battery XD

      Although it has both components, both are simplified: smaller battery, smaller and more efficient engine for same power output, and no need for a gearbox. In China, a PHEV is usually priced between its ICEV and BEV counterparts.

    In 2050 if 30-50% of all the cars are EV, can the electricity companies ramp up to electricity supply to cope the demand in energy supply. What are the plans to build enough power plants to cope with increasing electricity demand. Prepare to experience power shortage and black out. This problem is not unique to Malaysia, its a problem that all countries pushing to adopt EVs.

      What are talking about. Malaysia has 40% excess generating capacity. Our transmission and distribution is already 50% oversized for the last 10 years.
      Capacity planning was done 20 years ago expecting economic growth of 8%. Actual economic was about 5%. Economic growth last year does not count due to low base effect of 2021 (covid).

      That's why Malaysia also has the NEM 3.0 solar energy program. You can completely power your EV with solar energy so this will already mitigate the problem if everyone charges their own cars with solar. Solar panels so cheap now with only a 5 year pay back period. It's a no brainer

    EVs are great, but I think what would really spur adoption and construction of charging infrastructure are ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES. Half the vehicles on the average malaysian road are motorbikes, so cheap e-bikes will probably see decent levels of adoption

      I dont know if the eletric motorcycles will be a good idea since some of the motorcyclists and the rempits preferred motors because of their exhaust sounds. I believe that eletric vehicles in general are more quiet. Unless they bring out a motorbike with artificial engine sounds, maybe there is a chance if the riders are willingly to hear fake exhaust sounds lol.

If the government incentivises the switch to e-bikes for the working class, I believe many would take the deal - after all they are the most exposed to the exhaust fumes being belched out by the vehicles around them, so the more dirty bikes we take off the road, the better it is for them as well.

    Shamsul Bahar mentions that Malaysian emission of greenhouse gases is less than 0.8% of global emission as if somehow that was insignificant. Malaysias share of the global population is even less with just 33 million of the over 8,019,000,000 people on earth and if we divide emissions per person then everything is insignificant and nobody need to do anything about the problem; all the while the Keeling curve keeps rising exponentially

    For me, The charging times will be the biggest hurdle for us. We have big 'balik kampung' culture, imagine how long the queue will be then? Even with the 5 min fast pumping petrol station, we had quite a lines. How is 20-30 min charging will be? CNY, Raya Puasa, Raya Haji, Depavali - that alone comprising 8 times a year (2 per journey - including return trip)
    As owner of hybrid vehicles, I think plug in hybrid is the short term solution while waiting the EV whether BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) or H-FCEV (Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles) technology matures. Personally I think hydrogen is the way forward as industry & commercially driven transport (Plane/Heavy Truck) will likely to adopt hydrogen as energy replacement of petroleum based sources.

    Malaysia should be more realistic in improving her transport mobility. Take the KTMB, the railway company, in spite of millions if not billions spent, this unit had contributed minimal to connectivity of transportation of freight and people. It hardly handles more than 2% of the volume of the trade in the Peninsular with a further 2 hundred millions of annual subsidy from the Government! And MOT seems to be happy just to keep the over-manned system going!!

    Malaysia should get the help of Tesla to install superchargers throughout the country. Tesla installs 24 supercharger stalls in US EVERYDAY. They also install 24 supercharger stalls, level 3 and 4, everyday in rest of the world. Tesla chargers are highly reliable and required kWh to charge quickly. It will be a 6 month work Tesla to install superchargers throughout Malaysia if the govt provides adequate support. Also, they will provide or assist apartment complexes to install level 1 and level 2 chargers in the parking lots so that people who live in apartments can charge their car overnight. It can be like a parking meter with some payment method so that the apartment management can make money for giving electricity for charging.
    Also, the government must support heat pumps and educate people on that. For a hot and humid climate like in Malaysia, heat pumps work far better than AC units, consume one third of the electricity and extremely efficient in removing humidity. They should mandate heat pumps for new constructions and provide incentives for others to change to heat pumps from AC units.

    TESLA gone to Thailand. Quite obvious, unless Malaysian Govt. can pull together instead of fighting with each other in the Parliment.

    more developed countries don't have the energy grid to support full EV adoption...
