    The wire hook ratchet straps are inconvenient to use . The 5/16” chain anchored 2” racket straps easily wrap around chain pockets or spools .
    Two chains secured to the clevis as a single attachment point is improper .
    Unwinding the ratchet binder , place hook on trailer rail and hold other hook in your hand . Spin it like jumping rope .

    Nice work Tony & Chris. Tonys Cool Tool School should be your channel name. Best thing to learn from this video is...........When you don't own a proper trailer (boat, camper, horse, motorcycle, lawn mower) it's best to have friends or family that will let you borrow one. Trailer D ring rating is also important to DOT.

    • @TonysCoolTools
      @TonysCoolTools  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry, friends or family with tools and equipment you can borrow is important for sure😂
      When I buy a trailer I typically have the manufacturer add additional D rings for extra tie down points. Seems like I never have enough.

  • @comlbbeau
    @comlbbeau 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Since your chains are so long in the back, I'd install two hooks at the halfway point in the chain and hook to the draw bar shackle with them both and use the chain ends to the corner D rings. You're then using only one chain, but there are two independent sections of chain running from the D rings to the shackle.

      Ahh, now that sounds like a good idea.

      @@TonysCoolTools not really, when they come off the stacks they go into a 5 gallon bucket of diesel, but if you forget in 30-45 days they seize up. We also use them for cargo trucks, salmon gillnetters and buses anything smaller usually just use line with a truckers hitch and then half hitch the dead ends untill there is very little tail then put a overhand at the end.
      When the pots are not held on by chain binders there held together in 2-3 spots with a 6ft piece of line with a clove hitch and a overhand. Freaks people out when they first see it.

    Thanks for giving your Old Best Friend a lift! Lots of great info in the last few videos!👍
    Was the hook on front axle right beside where you put your strap around not recommended for securing a chain to it? I have 4 short chains made up for just the tractor so I am not dealing with all the excess chain. I keep a couple longer ones in the box for attachments or material but the short chains sure speed the process up! Have a great week!

      The angle to get from that position to the D-rings is so sharp the chain would dig into the tire. I like your idea about the short chains, that’s a great second option.
      Thanks for watching, commenting and sharing your idea. 👍TCT

    hi there good show , may want to chain Chris down , couple things i went to the G80 chains because they were stronger but lighter according to the manufacture 20 years ago . don't know how they did that , i now have had 3 failures in china steel or metal products , will not use it anymore , appears to me to be brittle . keep that in mind . have you seen the new binders you use your impact driver on ,you two take care . john

      @TonysCoolTools  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John I agree with you I’m not a fan of Chinese metal.
      I’ve used these chains for about 6 years and So far I’ve been pleased with them but I don’t use them on a daily basis.
      I’ve seen the binders that use an impact gun and they look extremely convenient but naturally they cost considerably more than any other binders.
      But I guess if you use them on a daily basis they are worth the money in time savings.

    I have taken my 20’ chains and cut them in half. Why have 1/2 of your chain potentially dragging or laying on the deck.
    I’ve also made 2’ and 1’ chains for when it’s really close to the tie downs.
    If you hook two chains like you did, make sure the working load limit on the shackle is double what your chains are.
    I also replaced all my cinch hooks with slip hooks to let me hook them directly to the d-rings.

    • @TonysCoolTools
      @TonysCoolTools  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jon all good points and thanks for sharing. The main reason I keep my chains long is I use them on multiple projects. I only move my tractor a dozen times a year and use different trailers. If I was only using one trailer I’d make custom chains so I don’t have a long tail dragging.
      I too love short piecies of chain, there is always a use for them around the homestead.

      Yup I have fluid film sprayed on them and store them in the trailer tool box or in the pole barn so they are out of the elements.

    Great content Toney.
    I like your thoughts process about the passenger side working, but I'm not sure if you noticed all types of load binders on semi's trucks are on the driver's side due to D.o.t. regulations. This is so the driver can view the load management of his load if they become loose during travel. (In most cases) your trailer is covered by the the towing vehicle's insurance but not the content on the trailer such as (tractor). And if your trailer becomes disconnected from the towing vehicle while in transit, you have no insurance and can be held liable 😭. Some states Dot. regulations require business owners to carry liability insurance on trailers weighting 10k or more. If you were to call your local scale house and ask for a courtesy inspection most weigh scales would do this without citing you a volition. That would make part two of trailering video for you and some awesome content for your subscribers 👍👍

      @TonysCoolTools  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wow thanks for the awesome information. Regarding the passenger side location, that’s when you only have one strap or binder. I do have tow mirrors on my truck and can monitor chains or straps easily. I had to get a Ryder policy on my tractor when I tow it off my property otherwise as you said it’s not covered.

    Dot says any chain attached to the item gets 50% weight rating. Any chain that goes over/through (trailer to trailer) is full value. Assuming you're chain is 6500# the 2 chains only give you 6500# not 13000.
    If the tractor is over 10000# the hydraulics need to be strapped down too.
