You think you own a new car but it ends up owning you. It owns your wallet, and if something happens to your car you get mad... A cheap car... No worries. I wish I ended up buying a $5000 truck.
I recently bought a brand new 6-speed Corolla, to be used as a second car. I only bought it because I've been dreaming of learning to drive a manual for a very long time. So, I spent years saving up cash to buy a second car plus the insurance. It wasn't an impulse decision, it was a decision six years in the making. No remorse here, because I saved up, had a very long time to think about it, didn't spend beyond my means. There's nothing wrong with buying a new car. Just be able to pay cash for it.
Words of wisdom. Thanks. I used to think I need the best and most expensive car. Now I drive a $4000 RSX and in the next couple of years I plan on buying my dream car(R34) cash after saving all the money up.
I'd say a lot of people would rather enjoy a semi-decent car on the daily with Android auto and a nice sound system adaptive cruise nice brand name and decent drive etc, instead of drive POS every day and enjoy a really cool car on the weekends. I see where you are coming from though
Difference is he's driving a Mercedes, a $1000 Toyota would be different. The Mercedes will have a ton of features a Toyota wouldn't. Plus Rob could afford to maintain it if he had to.
Do people really care about brand name? All I really look for is no odor, reliable, and cheap. You can do a full sound system on a car for $600 if you really want android auto and take it out when you sell.
@@randomvideosn0where a lot of people care about brand name. Why do brands like Gucci, LV, Range Rover, Porsche etc sell so well? Also the refinement and reliability of a new C-Class is unmatched by pretty much any cheaper used car and the Burmester sound system will be perfectly tuned to the interior of the car. It still makes sense to buy a C-class/3-series for a lot of people. A young professional would be more at home in a new C class than a 1000 dollar Toyota and a nice weekend car.
I sent Liberty Mutual a tweet. Glad to help bug them. Hope they turn out for you. 100% agree with your message though. Even though I'm still broke. I drove a $300 car for 9 years. Through college, all over the country, everywhere. Plus if something ever happened to the car, no big loss, I can replace it. I saved so much money keeping it and fixing minor issues, so I could buy other stuff. I've never had a car payment and I'm definitely not sad about that. I even got to take some international trips and buy project cars and upgrade parts even though I'm from a poorer family. Def save the money!
Do a lot of digging and SHREWD negotiating. You might be able to pull it off. Granted it will need some work but afterwards you could have something with low running costs.
I completely agree with you Rob. I drive a 10 year old BMW because I'm saving for a track car. The best part is that most people don't really know cars and think mine is like 4 years old.
@@xVwraithVx 95 Nissan 200sx. I've actually only put about 30k on it. I changed it once about 6mo after purchase and realized it's a waste of money on such a cheap car.
Straight up truth. My dad drives a bmw he bought 10 years ago for $2000. Great driver that has little flaws but couldn’t be happier and gets to drive a decent car
Although I loved my miata was nickel and dimeing me. Apart with being impractical I kept fixing so many issues and worrging about the top getting cut. Not that I sold it and drive a cheap beater it was probably the best thing I did financially too. And as much as I love cars, I like not worrying about money and reliability too
Love your style man. I’m rocking a 2001 Jeep paid cash for it, wife has her paid off armada. Not new and we don’t care. Only bill we have is our 15 year mortgage on a custom built home. Not bad for a couple of high school grads putting in hard work. Friends have said they wish they could have what we have but are too tied up with their two car payments, moto payments, gymnastics, swimming, keeping up with the jones bs. Y’all can have it.
Totally understand your sentiment, you could also point out you could drop $2000 in a car like that you will have an even more reliable car AND be able to get that money back too. I bought a 2000 ML430 for $1000 and stuck $2500 into it and now it is straight tank status. I call it my mini G-wagon.
My father in law pretty much stole a low mileage 2002 GL 320 for 500$, all it needed was a radiator fan... it drives great, came with the 17" AMG wheels on it too
I totally agree rob I bought my first car and burned on it now I'm paying for it. I learned my lesson buying a used cheap car I wish I would have learned it before thanks rob very good video
We all know that this isn't a really 1000 dollar car, regardless of what you paid for it. Nobody else can go out and replicate that deal, it was a favor from a friend. Most 1000 cars are barely running and unsafe, and you know it
I drove an 06 scion tc for years. I bought it with 100k miles for 6k. No issues minus an alternator at 140k. I sold it at 155k. Very reliable car. It allowed me to save up enough and buy a lightly used 370z and other vehicles. Rob is right.
After dayling a car I care about, kept it washed and maintained meticulously, then being rear ended, I realized a beater was my best choice for the majority of errands and bought a SW2 saturn manual wagon for just over a grand. It has been so nice to have a car I don't care a lot about, and my other cars get pampered without worrying about some idiot dinging the door with a shopping cart, lol.
Agreed 100%. My Crown Vic is 17 years old, reliable as hell, and holds 6 bodies (depending on size) in the trunk. It's a tank. If someone decides to get stupid and run into me, I'm not worried. I'm going to hate it when the wheels fall off, because that's when I'll have to figure out what to replace it with.
For the price of a New Honda Civic fully loaded, I was able own and maintain 2 Toys, a Truck, and an everyday car. The lowest mileage car has 40k miles on and the highest is touching 90k. My maintenance outside some exhaust and other preventive maintenance work on one of the toys, the only maintenance I had was oil changes and air filters.
Liberty Mutual and the "50 Deron's" WILL make Rob whole again. Or else the will also be added to the "Professor Xavier" List along with Alex and the Sign'S Guy😉😳
I completely agree with this, I’m only 19 but I just drive a very cheap car everyday and then I’m able to have a fun car to drive on the weekends, smartest thing to do.
I daily my copart prius and love it - it's fun to drive the weekend car on the weekend and make it special. Plus no sense racking miles up on a sports car and spending more on gas to drive slow in traffic when I can get 50mpg+ on a car that barely needs maintenance.
Thank you Rob for not JUST saying you support the protests while staying silent on the violence like so many do. I've unsubscribed from internet subscriptions and TH-camrs for not speaking out on the violence to. Just like they say "those who stay silent on the protests are guilty" its the same with those who don't say anything about the violence. Not saying anything hurts your cause and makes people believe the violence is supported since it's not condoned. Anyway end of that rant..great video! Happy I can still enjoy your content!
I daily drive a $400 2010 Ford Focus with 200k miles. Runs and drives great, ac and everything works. Running strong for the last two years!. And then i have my 2010 Supercharged Mustang that i keep in the Garage 😊.
I only had a motorcycle for 3 years. Went out and bought a $700 manual 4 door...*cough Saturn sl2. I call it the "ShaTurd" but it allows me to own a brand new motorcycle and a 71 GMC C1500. Best hack ever
What this car needs is a $500 headliner with stars. That's why I love Rob's channel. I live in Prague, and everyone is fronting up with new cars. It's a big deal for people from the former Communist Czechoslovakia to look flash. I'm not Czech, so I take the tram :)
Your point.. you can own a nice car today or you can own a nice car in ten years hoping what you want appreciates rather than depreciates. Pay today or pay in ten years. I’ll give you points on the pex and manifold though.

Where can I find a 1000$ Mercedes?
Toyshop
Ebay, Metal Recycling yards, Oakland craigslist.
Right this isn't $1,000 car unless you buy a salvage title
In the UK there's tons of the all engine sizes Best option is the 270cdi with slightly rarer manual 6apeed.
Do a lot of digging and SHREWD negotiating. You might be able to pull it off. Granted it will need some work but afterwards you could have something with low running costs.
I've been driving my 2002 Acura TL for 17 years and it's still going!
I still have my first car. Going on 10 years plus, trying to get another 5 years out of it.
I completely agree with you Rob. I drive a 10 year old BMW because I'm saving for a track car. The best part is that most people don't really know cars and think mine is like 4 years old.
I have a 700 dollar car, I love the Hell out of it
Don't change the oil, I haven't changed mine in 7yrs
MrHillfolk wtf man how😂
@@MrTheHillfolk woah what car have you got
@@xVwraithVx 95 Nissan 200sx.
I've actually only put about 30k on it.
Work is only about 3 miles away , I'll use it for short trips around town but if I have to go anywhere of distance I'll use the wife's car.
I changed it once about 6mo after purchase and realized it's a waste of money on such a cheap car.
@@randomstudent101 Just bought a 99 Town Car for 700 last week. Love it
Couldn't do that in the UK, the garages would rip you for your MOT, which is the annual test for your vehicle for its safety
I bought my 2010 ford fusion for $1000+taxes what was $120 and I'm happy to drive it 🙃
Damn that’s a steal
Those Fusions aren’t bad at all. Comfortable and reliable.
@@RicardoCanedoMX I have an 08 manual Fusion i found for $1700 just had to have the AC charged and tires put on it. Pretty good daily.
I need to find a 1000 dollar fusion.
I’ve been doing this for years. Currently daily a 2001 saturn sl1 that gets 35ish mpg and is super reliable. Have a fun toy in the garage.
7:47 was the most satisfying "WhY" ever 😂
Straight up truth. My dad drives a bmw he bought 10 years ago for $2000. Great driver that has little flaws but couldn’t be happier and gets to drive a decent car
I have $750 Toyota. It's a great daily beater. I highly recommend this approach to anyone. It is one of the best financial decisions I've ever made.
Although I loved my miata was nickel and dimeing me. Apart with being impractical I kept fixing so many issues and worrging about the top getting cut.
Not that I sold it and drive a cheap beater it was probably the best thing I did financially too. And as much as I love cars, I like not worrying about money and reliability too
Every word, literal gold
“Yes, I have to pay for maintenance but it holds it value”
Ferrari dealership “that will be 45.000 dollars for the oil change, sir”
Love your style man. I’m rocking a 2001 Jeep paid cash for it, wife has her paid off armada. Not new and we don’t care. Only bill we have is our 15 year mortgage on a custom built home. Not bad for a couple of high school grads putting in hard work. Friends have said they wish they could have what we have but are too tied up with their two car payments, moto payments, gymnastics, swimming, keeping up with the jones bs. Y’all can have it.
6 years ago I had good job and the use of my legs.
Buzz kill dude.
6 years ago I still didnt have my legs.
Alex Schwartz didn’t except to see you here haha but people will complain about anything! Just be happy to be living people
Seems like just yesterday, no?
6 years ago I was 6 years younger.
Totally understand your sentiment, you could also point out you could drop $2000 in a car like that you will have an even more reliable car AND be able to get that money back too. I bought a 2000 ML430 for $1000 and stuck $2500 into it and now it is straight tank status. I call it my mini G-wagon.
Hahaha I have a w211 I bought for 700 that's my daily they will drive for a million miles
Thanks I’m breaking the cycle after my lease ends next year. I’m done with car payments.
Shit i'll take your jacket Rob, I live in NJ too and will come pick it up if I have too
Kilroy New Jeruse!
THIS is the advice i would give every young guy who just got his drivers licence.
And yes, i speak partly from personal experience :D
For the price of a New Honda Civic fully loaded, I was able own and maintain 2 Toys, a Truck, and an everyday car. The lowest mileage car has 40k miles on and the highest is touching 90k.
My maintenance outside some exhaust and other preventive maintenance work on one of the toys, the only maintenance I had was oil changes and air filters.
Liberty Mutual and the "50 Deron's" WILL make Rob whole again. Or else the will also be added to the "Professor Xavier" List along with Alex and the Sign'S Guy😉😳
I'm still running my 02 vw gti 7 years later bought for $1400. Still love it, good power and comfy enough
Same reason I drive a $6,000 4runner. Because of that and other frugal habits I own Lambo, and 3 mk4 Supras. Well said.
Excellent point, people blowing money for an “image” while you could invest that money etc
I’ll give you points on the pex and manifold though.
rob, you should be going to your local schools and giving talks to the kids coming up and about to enter the world of cars and driving. they could all use hearing the logic and basic economics of everything you talk about in this video!
I drove $300,900,1000 cars for years
Now I have a 350z & g35x
Works great Rob 👍
Great Advice! Ive had many a sub £1000 car for traveling to work in to enable me to own the cars I really wanted M3, AMG Evo etc
The Evo then the M3 and the E55 AMG were all bought with the same £7k i originally had too , thanks to none of them depreciating drastically or some even increasing in value.
Stay smart Kids
7:40 THANK YOU. I've been driving my '07 328i since i was 17, crashed it, horn fuse blew, rings me 7 times with 3 warning lights every time i start the car. I've graduated college and could comfortably afford a new car. I don't want a new car. I like leather, cold A/C, and a smooth i6 drivetrain. put 60k miles on it over 5 years now.
Reminds me of a video from a Dutch TH-cam channel, they were interviewing him about his Murcielago. He had bought a Murcielago from just buying and selling exotics every few years, he didn't have children and was able to just save up his money for the next car. His boss was very happy about his mentality ofc, lol.
