It's a cheap dealer unit about the size of a small match box routed into the starter and ignition wires. You need an account with the tech provider to access these features. I'm sure it would be pricey for an average consumer wanting to use it on just one or two vehicles. So I doubt it's readily available on the open market. People got balls renting an expensive car then taking it to a track either dumb as rocks or big balls because usually people know if you crash at the track your not covered unless u specifically setup your policy to do so which means if you crash your paying up big time I don’t know how u do it rob.
Watched a guy wreck his car in a King Of The Hill race. They asked him if he wanted a tow truck. His response? Tow truck? I can't even afford the F ING insurance! I had a rental Mustang no way would I take chance of wrecking it!
I’m glad Rob is taking the firm but fair approach to dealing with a bad renter. Part of me, however, wants things to end up with Rob suing the crap out of this guy just to make his world so much worse because of his arrogant screw up.
Now, that's a spicy meatball. Do you disclose to your customers their every move is being tracked and recorded via GPS? Seems like that should be pretty obvious on the front windows/counter of the business. There are some situations that this needs to be disclosed.
Actually by the title I thought the customer installed a GPS tracker on the car, maybe to steal it afterwards. Caught My Customer Tracking my Rental Car THANKS TO MY GPS TRACKER!
The costs of those tires alone would p*ss me off; but yeah, I'm glad to see that you're going to be thorough in spiking his rates to make him cover everything...Those are fun cars to take up and down the interstate (very easy handling and I always appreciated how effortlessly they could adjust speed by 10 or so mph with virtually no effort when you're behind someone who wants to be an a**); but race track? Ehh, no...Glad to see you're putting your foot down, HARD!!!
On another note: This also enforces why it's not a good idea to take a vehicle down to a race track (unless you're spectating; then sure, lol)...It's expensive to upkeep a vehicle for racing unless you're making enough from the event to cover from those setbacks...lol...
At the end of the day the "client" may have saved a lot of money vs being upfront and doing it the right way. Sure there's the risk of totaling your car and getting sued but that was the gamble. It's just too bad for people like that that they don't have to pay a lot more. It's like how it costs more to legally dispose of oil & waste products then the potential fines for getting caught.
Are you also charging the premium for the track rental price? BTW - You need to be a strong person to run a business like this, however you are incredibly level headed and genuinely nice. Great to see that!
Point is always consent to the owner of the car. I'm glad they was no physical dents on the car. Just replacing the tyres, check the suspension, basically do a total service on the car

I have been testing that same Linxup GPS on my fleet of cars. So far I like it a lot. It has definitely shown me some things I needed to know.
Mr.BigBoss7 nothing like that yet maybe... there was one that called out at a quickie mart for 2 hours that makes me wonder what else is going on there. Mostly we provide high end security for a wealthy neighborhood. Employees are supposed to drive a certain amount of miles in the neighborhood. But it seems our guys we higher from the PD to assist us are getting there miles outside the neighborhood driving around at higher speeds. The Linxup tracking system showed me ALL of it. Definitely going to invest in these for the rest of the cars now.
Actually learned quite a bit from this 👍
Having dealt with people in the exotic rental business for years, I can attest to this story. I had one guy take a 97 Viper RT/10 out on the highway and didn't know how to properly drive standard. He blew the engine and put one of the pistons right through the oil pan. $25,000 engine replacement and a major break-in period, resulting in massive rental losses. Exotic rentals is a difficult business.
Imagine the painful phone call to Rob if he put the amg into a wall at the track
or if a deer at the track totaled the car.
Or if the renter overstressed the engine and it blew up
Or if a left handed crescent wrench ended up in the throttle body at the track
@@danishghostrider Yep exactly that why they charge extra for track use. The problem is people usually try to find a way to be cheap and put the cost on someone else.
@@parrotgenie5099 Exactly
At least, it's in one piece for once. :D
not after it needs tie rods, brakes, tires, strut replacement, speed sensors, alignment, etc...
Can we get a follow up on the condition of the car... Love this vids!!
lol when you zoomed in I just pictured that guy having the time of his life. 🤣
Tracking: Keeping up with a GPS location.
Also Tracking: High speed use on a closed circuit.
Rob is like that dad who says, "I don't like that, that was not cool, big no-no" and it's the worse than any other punishment you could think of at that time.
no integrity no morals these days sorry you had to deal with this Mr spaghetti
Sucks to hear bro but glad your gonna make him pay for anything that is cause from tracking it.
Every time I listen to Rob, it's like listening to a Mob member you hear in all the films 😂
'having a track day with my rental car' would have been more appropriate.
Once he zoomed in I started laughing. Don't mess with Rob's meatballs
*new title* “caught my customer driving my rental on a track”
Rob: Track use does a lot of damage normal rental doesn't do
Me: Hold my beer Robert
The rental car race in days of thunder was inspired by true events.
Over Rev detection? From MERCEDES? AMG built race car? I want to see this “over rev” report.
Oh it exists, had an older Mercedes mechanic who was near retiring explaining it to me, he said they can track near damn everything just plugging the ecu in to their computers. Helps a lot when daddies rich son blows their engine and says oh well it must be Mercedes fault.
Majin damn that’s crazy
This is a very informative video. Thanks for so candidly sharing.
Holy Shit man! He raced the hell out of that car.
So u basically did charge him 10,000😂
Props to Rob not giving the guy a $10000 fine
This is actully GREAT ADVICE !!!! Most people think its ok and its just against car guy etiquette!!!!
TODAY MR.SPEGGITI TALKS ABOUT HOW A CUSTOMER OVERCOOKED HIS MEATBALLS
Lmao
It's not a manual transmission car. There are no over-revs. You can't down shift from 5th to 1st at 80mph in that car.
Mike Haftel and who checks for over-revs in the first place anyway😂never heard of someone running an over-rev check and then decreasing the value of the car
You can drive in manual mode though it's automatic. And you can def overrev it
@@rvfan96 No. You can't. You can bounce off the rev limiter all you want. But you can't do a mechanical over-rev like you can in a manual transmission. If you try to manually downshift into too low of a gear, the car simply won't let you.
@@FourT6and22 What about staying in one gear and over revving? I think you can do it with pedal shift no?
@@rvfan96 No. You'll just bounce off the rev limiter like any other car.
What gps system do you use? It sounds great, especially zoning off tracks and killing the car
sik59rt that’s like asking someone, where are your video cameras located.
Patrick L not really. Especially when he said where one of the antennas is. I didn’t think there were any systems available where a consumer could disable a car remotely
No way in a hot place those $80 trackers supports killing the car...
It's a cheap dealer unit about the size of a small match box routed into the starter and ignition wires. You need an account with the tech provider to access these features. I'm sure it would be pricey for an average consumer wanting to use it on just one or two vehicles. So I doubt it's readily available on the open market. I worked as an install tech for a while, and we just closed the account and let them go with most vehicles once paid off, like this guy mentioned.
Look into street eagle you can remotely track vechiles and kill and unlock vechiles. We use them in the fleet at my job
I love a track day but wow - the idea of doing it to someone elses car without permission is so ******
You are a honest person. I watch your videos just because your personality. I hope that one day i'll be one honest customer in your company. Keep doing so!
Good for you for not going for the 10,000 straight up, I hope your open-ness and mercy really help your buisness
That's f'd upped the customer did that. Please do an update how the dealership inspection went.
Wow, the rental car business seems so risky. Just curious how you feel about Turo and if it has effected your business. Maybe you could make a video on that.
JD JoyrideTV Ed bolian has a great video on how Turo sucks all around for the owners
Today Mr.spagetti finds out the sauce was more expensive than the meatballs
Caught My Customer BY Tracking my Rental Car! fixed
Lol. No. Wrong. Original title is correct.
Actually by the title I thought the customer installed a GPS tracker on the car, maybe to steal it afterwards.
Caught My Customer Tracking my Rental Car THANKS TO MY GPS TRACKER!
My favorite part of your videos are the today Mr. spaghetti comments lol
Chances are I'd drive the car like I was on the track on the road so at least he actually took it to the track 🤷♂️
Well you'll have a spare set of track tires for then next time someone tracks it, granted they tell you first
I thought you meant someone was tracking it with a gps 😂😂😂
Yes, he was tracking it while the renter was tracking it.
If you're going to rent a car to take it to the track... doing it wrong. Especially on a Mercedes Lol.
GREAT! Now I can't do my parade laps at the NY safety track! 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
Show him the same Respect by suing him for 10,000+ sounds like he was a jerk and can afford it!
NYST! Woohoo! Fun track up there, I suggest you all take a trip up and drive that track if you get a chance. Very laid back and pretty technical little course.
Holy cow, this video just popped up after watching a Stradman vid and I was like I know this guy! What’s up Rob, it’s me Raul, the guy the only human being in the world that was willing to travel across the country with that clown Matt to film two epic Corvettes belonging to you and Doug! I’m glad to see you’re doing well and I hope to hear back from you! Be well!
