    One of the cooler details is that Prime 4 seems to take place after Super. According to press releases at the time of Super’s launch, that game takes place in Cosmos Year 20X7, putting Prime 4 two years after its events.
    This would explain why Sylux only has Mochtroids by his side rather than genuine Metroids, seeing as they’re effectively extinct by that point.

    • @NamekianG
      @NamekianG 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      It wouldn't necessarily explain that, because Federation Force was 20X6 and that's when Sylux stole the metroid egg. He has a real metroid with him, and has had presumably 3 years to either get more and breed them, or learn how to properly clone them

      @@xXDexter3000Xx We never got an excuse for Samus losing the gunship from Prime 3. Her ship in Prime 2 is very similar to the Metroid 2 ship, so unless i have forgotten a scan log it's possible that Samus just has 2 ships.

    I’d like to point out scanning actually does a LOT, and isn’t just a feel thing. It’s the way the story is told subtly, and is one of the most organic ways of storytelling in AAA games. The more you’re interested, the more you can scan. It delivers the narrative in snippets that you yourself have to piece together instead of in a linear story.

  • @xxProjectJxx
    @xxProjectJxx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

    I think the fact that Sylux seems to be weaponizing the Metroids fits perfectly in with the lore. The Federation ordering Samus to exterminate the Metroids in Metroid 2 might be a direct response to Sylux's actions in Prime 4.
    Which would then add a layer of depth to the fact that the Federation then attempts to clone Metroids for military purposes in Fusion and Other M.
    Like, Samus is just like "isn't this what I was trying to prevent!?"
    And the Federation's just like "it's ok when we do it."

    • @GBDupree
      @GBDupree 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Well Mother Brain already had full control of the Metroids leading to them being the universal threat they were. So we don't need Sylux to justify that. He can still be the straw that broke the camel's back though.

    • @GBDupree
      @GBDupree 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @PBJA89 we can still have more Prime games. 4 existing at all means we dont even need the literal Metroid Prime (AKA Dark Samus) to be around to justify the title. My guess is that you will get 4 different alternate upgrades that aren't strictly beams. So the beams will likely stack, but I also think so will missiles (assuming there are ice missiles for instance). The icon for missiles is there the whole time, but samus can alternate between beams and missiles in the footage without seemingly switching between them with the D-pad. Also it wouldn't make sense to swap between normal missiles and ice or Super Missiles, as the regular missiles would feel useless in comparison, and you could just have those work the same way as before. So I bet the Grapple Beam will get extended use (like with Prime 3's grapple abilities) and be another slot. Maybe ship based attacks will be there too (also assuming this game will be similar to Prime 3). Basically any upgrade that would use the missile button (so not a visor, as there would be no reason to swap off missiles to a visor which wouldn't require the missile button to use).

    Despite the fact that I was NEVER a Prime 4 doubter, there is one thing I'm not sold on: the name.
    In my eyes, the naming convention for the Metroid Prime series thus far was: Metroid Prime [n]: (one word subtitle referring to the game's main theme's or villain.)
    Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Echoes refers to the dichotomy between Light and Dark Aether, as well as the fact that you're fighting an echo of yourself throughout this game.
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Corruption refers to Samus (and the other Hunters) being corrupted; and Dark Samus being the source of that corruption.
    If you think about it, this kinda goes as far back as the first title. Metroid Prime is the final boss after all, before becoming Dark Samus. What I'm left wondering is what the word "Beyond" has to do with this game's themes and/or Sylux.
    I suppose the answer is that we just have to wait and see, but I'll go out on a limb and theorize; in the final shot, we see Samus coming into a new area through what reminds me of the portal traveling to and from the Fire & Ice temples of Bryyo. Perhaps Metroid Prime 4 will take place, once again, across different planets, or even different galaxies?

    • @Irish_Enderman

      I suspect you're right. I also think that "Beyond" may be a bit meta, with it being confirmed a long time ago that phazon is out of the picture as a storytelling/plot device. The prime series was always focused on that as a finalized trilogy, but now we're moving beyond that. I also wonder if we're going to be seeing conflicts beyond the federation and the space pirates, as Sylux a part of either and presumably has a reason for his hatred of the federation which the games have shown to be extremely shady and questionable already.

    The way the D-pad menu at the bottom shows missiles makes me think that instead of having multiple other beams, you collect various special weapons. If there were ice missile for example, they would likely be defacto better than the normal missiles, so why switch between them, they would be better off stacked like in Prime 3. Same for Super Missiles, which would best be used like in previous games. Perhaps the beams could be swapped, but why put them with the missiles, they use separate buttons, and we can see in the footage alternating between beams and missiles without having to hit the D-pad to swap between them. So I think it will have to be new abilities that use the same button as the missile button (so Y or X I'm guessing). Maybe the Grapple beam for one (assuming it has more utility like in 3) but I can't think of anything else.

    I'm even more thoroughly convinced now of my pet theory: Prime Remastered was a way for them to monetize the creation of the Prime 4 engine. The colors, shaders, and reflections in this trailer are dead ringers for what they did in Prime Remastered. It also helps explain A) Why we've heard nothing about 2 and 3 remasters, and B) Why Prime Remastered was a $40 shadow-drop. Nintendo doesn't do that. They charge $60-70 for the most basic remaster because they know they can get away with it. The best explanation for the low price point and little fanfare of the game is because they never intended to get the majority of their profit from the remaster. Retro just needed a proof-of-concept for the engine to show Nintendo that it could handle Prime 4 on switch.

The ones in Prime 3 look completely different, but that game takes place near their homeworld so it makes sense its primarily that species of pirate you encounter (I'm under the belief its not the single and only homeworld of the entirety of the Space Pirates, as pirates would potentially have many homeworlds, especially as we know the pirates are a coalition of species).

    One tiny detail that some people might not have noticed is that small rocks and debris seem to be bouncing and reacting to other objects using some kind of global physics system. You can see little pebbles bounce away from Samus when she lands, and later on when the enemy capsule crashes into the room, a rock gets stuck between the floor and one of the panels and seems to vibrate in response. At first this might be seen as a teeny tiny bug, which it technically is and I hope those can get ironed out, but it also means that this game might have a global physics system that affects everything in the environment, even very small objects. Anything that isn't nailed to the ground might be affected, so the big question is, how many things won't be nailed to the ground? Metroid with destructible environments and realistic physics would be so freaking cool.

      Dread is really challenging though, so be prepared for that.
      As for the other 2D metroids, if you have the Online Expansion then I can't recommend Zero Mission enough! It's my favorite and is a real short and easy game, but teaches you everything you need to know about Metroid gameplay and is the first game chronologically (So Prime Remastered takes place right after).
      The game is easy because there are secret ways to skip upgrades entirely and beat the game under 15% items, so its balanced around that being possible. Because of this its a great game to replay as there are so many ways to beat it, its not actually linear despite appearing like it at first (which the linearity helps for a first time player).
      Story wise, Prime 4 uses story elements from a DS and 3DS game which neither was super popular (I've never gotten to play them), so the game will likely do a lot to teach you what is going on because even most fans may not know who this main villain is. So you don't really need to play any other games to know what's going on (but it definitely helps if you play at least Zero Mission of Prime remastered).

I still loved it, and I definitely would still recommend it, but I don't think it's substantially easier than Super (unless I'm forgetting some really difficult part of super, I should really replay super sometime and go for 100% items instead of saving past the point of no return without realizing it)

      A little bit, but they looked different in that game because of Phazon right? These ones also have multiple fangs but only 1 brain cluster that I can see. They are very different for sure but I like that, as the Prime games have always had weak Metroids and I prefer the games making them to be lesser or cloned versions to justify that.

      @PBJA89 i was thinking about that, I think they're phazon metroids with the phazon removed. They were originally Tallon metroids so now that the phazon was sucked out of them, they're not as strong and generally more fucked up. Does this make sense? Sorry, I just woke up

      honestly IMO Nintendo has the right idea with graphics, a game doesn't need hyper detail/realism to look great and the art styles of most Nintendo games age very well. Some of the best looking games I can think of across generations were from when that era's graphic design matured and developers learned to make the absolute most of what the system could deliver and the switch is very much pushing out games wonderfully mastering what its capable of.
      The resources of more powerful systems are better utilized where it improves the experience the most and unless we are talking a remake that usually isn't top tier graphics. and frankly imo alot of games pushing for the 'best graphics' early to midway each gen end up looking...... bland/cookie-cutter ish lacking much of the stylization that help define series.
      I feel like Nintendo goes the other direction with their graphics they have a stylization they are going for and determine the level of graphics they can use to express that style. The thousand year door remake is an amazing example of this in a side by side with the gamecube release, in broad strokes almost nothing changed because Nintendo was going for the same stylization of the same game. However in the details almost everything was changed, things that were flat or had 'painted depth' now have layers and folds, almost everything has abit more then it did back then but it does it by making it more like itself like instead of replacing the old version, the new version was closer to the ideal style both were aiming at and the switch just needs less of a step down from that to exist.

      Nice! Its my favorite, and for good reason! though it may seem a bit easy at first, that is because there are secret ways to skip a bunch of upgrades and go for a low 15% run, so the game is actually balanced for that. Because of this its a great idea to beat the game first with exploring as much as you can so that you can find all the secrets, then play again but by going out of order (its possible to beat Ridley before ever even going to Kraid for instance) and hopefully getting a fast enough time for a special ending picture, and then trying to do a Low% run as well.
      There are 7 ending pictures, 1 for beating it on easy or normal and hard slowly (so easy can be skipped entirely), 2 separate pics for normal and hard under 2 hours, 2 for normal and hard 100% under 2 hours, and 2 for normal and hard under 15%. Hard under 15% is so difficult as you have to plan the exact loadout that works for you and I've nearly beaten the game twice on that only to get stopped at the final boss both times because I wasn't good with my loadout! Normal is much more forgiving in comparison (though I still recommend the Screw Attack for the final boss).

    I am genuinely blown away by how this game looks. Not just the graphical fidelity, but the fact it looks as good as it does *and* runs at 60 FPS on Switch's aging, underclocked hardware is mind-boggling. Retro Studios deserves praise for the technical achievement alone, nevermind the fact the game will undoubtedly be amazing in terms of gameplay and exploration.
    Metroid is one of the few Nintendo IPs I actually go out of my way to play, so Prime 4 looks exciting beyond words to me.
