Paired with my a6600, run and gun, NYC-The 70-350 is amazing. Best daylight telephoto lens. Great auto focus. Much more micro contrast, sharpness (corner to corner), and hit rate (amount of "Keepers") than any other Tele for aps-c. OSS is good. 4k looks great, even at the far end. Optically sound, curated almost at all focal lengths. Bokeh rendition, good. I was never a fan of Sony lenses, but Sony def caught me with this one.
Just ordering ours on Friday, returning the Sony 55mm to 210mm to get this bad boy. We have the same camera a6400 but just starting out learning got to get off auto and have some fun.
Great video Mark. I bought this last week for my A6500. I'm astounded, not only by the reach but by the IQ. I've always had to boost the sharpness on the 55-210, but on certain photos, I have to reduce it on the 70-350. Worth every penny.
As a surf video shooter on a6000 series the 70-350 is the one I have been waiting for. Get the reach I need, 525 35mm equivalent, sharp & handles the autofocus. Biggest thing - I can afford it. Glad Mark gives it tick of approval.
Thanks for this Mark. I just picked up an A7rii as a second camera to my A7iii as they are being given away new for under $1,200 now in July 2021. I have the 200-600mm G but it's heavy for traveling. The 70-350mm G sounds like a great idea for the A7rii.
Just got my 70350G for a6300. Will also pair it with my a7riii for 18MP. Having a 525mm FF equivalent reach is awesome in such a small package. 200+g difference from the 70300G FE may not seem a lot, but I can fit my a6300 + Zeiss 1670ZF4 + Zeiss 24mmF1.8 + 70350G i into Peak Design 5L sling bag. Yes, the small one! Great for trekking!
Very, very helpful. I recently rented a 100-400 with a 1.4 teleconverter and found it simple too, too heavy! My monopod helped, but it is a beast. I will give the 70-350 a very close look!
Hi Mark. Love your videos. I'm always amazed how much great information and straight to the point you are with them in your videos. One thing that I find most people aren't mentioning is that the A7r4 not only shoots in a 26mp APS-c mode but it does it without a lowpass filter. Making it slightly sharper than other 24mp APSC-c camera's. Unless the a6600 updated their sensor as well that I don't know about. Anyway, keep the great content coming. Thanks!
I own a a6400 + Sony 70-350mm. I’ve been using the Sigma trio (which is great) but I have to say that I’ve considered the Sony 16-55 because it’s such a pain to constantly change when I’m shooting. I think this video convinced me to sell off my trio and simplify with the 16-55, even if it means a little loss of sharpness. It seems like the 16-55 and the 70-350 is an unbeatable duo for my a6400.
I travel so small and light in weight is very important. For this reason I have the Sony Apsc 6600. I love the quality of the Sony APSC cameras and am happy with this camera. So, I have had the 18-135mm sony lens and really like it. I have the sigma 30mm for night time or video/gimbal work. I recently bought the 70-350mm lens because I needed the reach and recommend it for its quality but for all these expensive lenses keep looking to find used deals. These lenses new are expensive!
I got it when I used the a6000, then I got the a6400. How does it work on that camera? GREAT! Although I have the Sigma 150-600, the Sony 70-350 is a joy to walk around with, as it's so light. Couple it with Clear Image Zoom, and you get enough reach for most circumstances.
Thanks for the video! I've been considering a telephoto lens to shoot surfing with my A7RIII and I was looking into the 70-200 F4, but the 70-350 seems like a very interesting option, specially as I will be shooting mostly video and the crop video mode is awesome on my camera
Really interesting video Mark. I currently use an A7R3 when I want resolution and an Olympus EM1 mk2 with the 12-100 f4 pro when I want light weight, stabilisation and a wide ranging zoom. I just purchased an A7R4 to see if it is possible to replace both functions with one camera given APSC mode is still higher resolution than the EM1. What I’d love to see is a 16-134 f5.6 constant aperture APSC lens built and performing like the Olympus 12-100 f4.

Hi Mark, thanks for the great vid, I own a NEX 6 and like you I have been waiting for a better lens than the 55-210, I was wondering what your opinion is on how this new 70-350mm would go with my NEX 6 camera, I don't really want to spend more $$ at this stage on new camera as I feel that most of the new models seem to be more focused on making videos so some of the specs they have I cant justify having at the moment however I do rather like the a6400 and a6100. Cheers
The A6100 would give you a significant AF performance advantage over the NEX6 if you photograph moving subjects. As the 55-210 is good, so long as subjects don’t move too quickly, I would buy the lens and camera as a companion set.
Great video Mark I have the a A7R4and I’m curious what’s the f-stops on the 70 to 350 at certain ranges? it makes me wonder about getting that lens and getting rid of others
I had been considering the fe100-400 G master for my A7R4, the 70-350 seems to good to be true, premium glass, bang sharp, better reach, fast focussing, cheaper... what am I missing?
The 70-350 is a beautiful lens. I use it on my A7c. I’m shooting the football games of my child. Paired with the tracking of the A7c it’s working pretty well. This lens is keeping me from buying the Sony 100-400gm or the 200-600. I once rented the 100-400gm (And yes, I felt like a pro 😅) and there was no difference (for me) in sharpness between the 70-350 and the 100-400. I don’t know if it’s the 24mp sensor on my A7c . Maybe there is a difference on higher resolution cameras, like >40mp?! The Lighter Weight and the 525mm focal length are the big “pro’s” for me at the moment. And a 11mp-picture is still enough for a good sharp result .
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Mine comes in the day after! I have a Sony A6000 that I'm excited to test this on and it will probably be what I use it on for images. I also have the A7iii and it will be interesting to see how it performs on both especially for video since even on the A7iii on crop mode it should be fine for 4k or more excitingly 60fps 1080p or even 120 to get some slow-mo bird stuff.
Thanks Mark for a great video and commentary! If you use APSC mode on the A7IV what would be the working pixel count? Would you get better images in APSC mode on a A7IV than let's say an a 6400?
14.6 Megapixels. The newer A6700 (using the Exmor R sensor) would have a better high ISO performance when compared to the A7IV shooting in APS-C mode. The A7IV would be better than the older A6400 and 6600 cameras.
Watch my SteadyShot videos for guidance on this topic. This lens does not have a SteadyShot Mode switch (mode 1, 2 and 3) so with rapidly moving cameras you need to turn SteadyShot off - because you are no longer trying to keep the camera 'Steady'
Thanks for fast reply. I had actually seen some of your guidance on panning. I was wondering about hand holding a 525mm equivalent lens without OSS. I was also wondering if shooting at 1/2000 sec or faster would render the "opposite pull" of the OSS minimal
im looking to buy this lens. just to understand correctly, if I purchase the 16-55 for my 6400, I can still use the 16-55 on a full frame CAMERA, like the a7c, I just have to shoot in a " crop mode " setting that is already pre installed on the A7C.
Hi Mark. Ive got the A7iii and looking at getting a zoom for animal, bird/bird in flight shots. I'm looking at the FE 70-200 F4 G OSS or the FE 70-300 4.5-5.6 G OSS and now I've seen this video - excellent by the way. All 3 are comparable price wise but just wanted an opinion and a basic answer to difference (apart from the obvious greater zoom). Can I ask if you were going to get one of the three which one would it be? By the way do you do the AGP F1 race in March
The 70-200 is a bit short for birds in flight and the 70-300 is a bit slow. The E 70-350 is fast and sharp but using the APS-C Mode on an A7III will drop your resolution to 10 MP. The usual choice would be either the 100-400 GM or 200-600 G or use an A6400 for A7RIII and IV bodies with the 70-350 if the full frame glass is too expensive.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thanks Mark all duly noted. I've got around $1800 to spend so the full frame glass is a little outside the budget at this stage. I do have a 6300 mothballed, would that give me good results with the 70-350
Hello Mark, I have just enjoyed watching this video review. I currently have a sony a6600, but I am looking to upgrade my lenses from those which i had with my old NEX5R camera. I currently have the SONY SEL 18-200 & 18-55 Lenses, but would like to improve on these, ideally a longer reach for wildlife hence why I'm looking at the 70-350 G & then maybe a16or 18-70. Is the 70-350 G still value for money in 2022 & what about a 16 or 18-70. I love your reviews mate & have been watching your channel whilst learning photography & more so my a6600
The 70-350 and 16-55 G lenses are still the best APS-C zoom lenses in 2022. They have been joined this year by the 10-20 G + the 15mm f/1.4 G and 11mm f/1.8 primes. I have an eBook for the A6600 camera on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.
Thanks Mark! Your Gallery Link is going to an RX100M7 gallery but found the one for 70-350 in your Flickr albums list -- great images! This lens is a great new choice for my travel kit...
Only drawback to the Sony 70-350 is the dust. It gets in fast. I don’t believe you are going to notice it in the images though. I sent my first one back because a huge piece of skin got into the very first element from the sensor. On the other side. Idk how. But. It happened. Since it was so new. I brought it back.
Hello. First I want to thank you for all the videos, because everything is very helpful, the way you explain it calmly and in details. I want to ask a question that I cannot find the answer. I have A6000 + 55-210. I like to take photos of race cars, birds, insects, but sometimes I am frustrated with the focusing. I do not have much money, but I am considering A6400 and 70-350. My question is - In my current gear, is the camera or the lens the bottleneck in focusing? Which should I upgrade first, and can I upgrade only one or I need both?
10mp in crop mode on a7iii is still greater than 4k so I think I might rent this 70-350 for my a7iii to see what the images look like. Cuz all my other full frame lenses are light (55 1.8, 85 1.8, 28-75 2.8) so the idea of buying a giant zoom isn't appealing at all even though I know the 100-400 is phenomenal, having rented it.
I got my 70-350 shortly after Nov 1 and have been using it on my a6000 but at this time of year the light conditions here (west coast Canada) are low. I'm looking forward to spring. Any chance Sony will release some fast prime telephotos for APS-C? I might consider upgrading to a6600 for some of the new features though I'm still a big fan of the a6000. The inbody stabilisation would be nice and the bluetooth remote.
Sony have not released a roadmap for new APS-C lenses but there are a number of non-Sony f/1.4 primes and I am a big fan of using the Sony FE 85 f/1.8 on the A6400 and A6600 cameras. The biggest improvement to updating to one the APS-C cameras released this year is the Real Time AF tracking which has received rave reviews from independent reviewers such as dpreview.com
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I have one now and am testing it. Dark corners appear in uncorrected RAW file wide open at 16mm. Is such vignetting at 2.8 common for such a lens??
I already have the excellent 70-350. The 16-55 looks great, I'm wondering if I would get better results by using that on my A7R-3 in crop mode rather than the 24-70/f4 in full frame.
Hi Mark, great video, I am wanting to get a better lens for my dated NEX 6 - instead of upgrading to a new camera I thought that it may be wise to get new glass so moving up from the 50-210 to the new 70-350 or the older Sony FE 70-200 f4 G OSS your thoughts on this - Will upgrade camera at a later date to one of the newer A series, other lenses I use are SEL10- 18, SEL50 F1.8 and I have the RX100 III, regards Glenn
The NEX-6 was the first Mirrorless camera to feature on-sensor phase detect AF. Although it works it was not until the release of the A6000 that the AF was fast enough to track rapidly moving subjects. The 70-350 is a fast focusing lens but you will not be using it at its best unless it is matched with a camera that also has fast AF.
Mark I'm new to photography and I have the A7Riv if I were to use the 70-350 in aspc mode will the range increase by x1.5 or is 350 the maximum focal length. I will like something in a smaller form factor with reach for concert photography
The smaller covering circle of an APS-C lens usually precludes the use in full frame. You may find that at some focal lengths the lens is covering more than an APS-C crop. You can see how much by turning APS-C Mode to off.
Hi Mark, have you tried to turn off the crop mode on the a7r4 to check how much of the full frame sensor covers the 70-350? I guess not much but some apsc lenses cover a lot more and sometimes I found it useful, thanks
The 70-350 has quite a lot of coverage - at 70mm it covers the entire full frame sensor and just a little bit of corner shading at 350. The limiting factor to this is the distortion that appears outside of the APS-C area is not corrected by the profiles.
Mark, Thank you for this fantastic video. I've been a Patreon member for several months and have a question: I bought the 70-350 in January of 2022 (largely on the strength of your review - - thanks again). I recently bought the A7riva. I'm trying to decide whether to keep the 70-350 or to sell it and buy the Tamron 70-300. I shoot mostly birds and birds in flight (mostly ospreys). I have and love the Sony 200-600, but, as you know, it's about four times heavier than either the 70-350 or the Tamron. Would you recommend I use the 70-350 on the A7Riv either in APSC mode (with loss of resolution) or in full frame mode (with vignetting), or use the Tamron (with a 50mm loss of reach)? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Can you please copy this to Patreon forum (there is a new 70-350 forum). I have my notifications switched off for TH-cam so it’s not a usable discussion forum for me and this is a complex decision.
Really great info Mark. One question: how do you think this lens pairs up with A9 specifically for motorsports shots? How is the AF, tracking and panning with this and the A9?
I am now using the A1 - I used this lens in my A1 review along with the FE 600 GM, 135 GM, 100-600 G and I feel its linear AF motor can help it keep up with the A1.
Hey, there already subscribed to you, have a question. I have sony a5100 and need a telelens advice might be a-mount or e-mount, I have a limited budget so I might think to get a used one too. I will be using it street and sometimes portrait. I have checked f2.8 sony lenses but expensive as hell at this moment, I really appericiate if you could give some suggestions, thanks for helping.
@@Seyyahun - If you had 80,000 followers wanting free personal mentoring (not connected to the movie you had just posted) would you give up your day job to help them?
Hi, Mark. Thank you for "simplifying the concept of photography on Sony platform", it makes it seems so easy. Would a year 2014 a6000 be optimum with 70-350 G, my current configuration with the 55-210 fell short for bird, wild life, landscape photography ? Will I lose functionality and capability ? If I have a choice of new body, would it then be a6?00 e.g. a6800 or a7x00 ? Key criteria remains light weight configuration for bird, wild life, landscape photography.
A new body will still be compatible with your current FE 70-300 lens. The A6100, A6400 and 6600 all offer improved AF tracking. For birds in flight your hit rate will also improve with a slightly faster focusing lens.
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills Thanks very much, Mark. Met Sony guys in Malaysia this morning for some birding photography. They spoke of the great advice when you were in town.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Hi Mark, I am deciding between the A6400 and A6600. Would the IBIS on the A6600 make a difference compared to the A6400 when using the 70-350 lens zoomed right into 350, or would the OSS of this lens be sufficient?
A little off topic but if I were to use the 2X teleconverter on my 70-200 can I still use apsc mode on my a7iii and end up with 600mm reach? What effect does the teleconverter have on AF? Do you have a video on these topics? Thanks. Your the best
I have an a6000 with the 70-250? lens. I think I'll end up buying this new lens. Would getting a newer version of the camera make much of a difference? I mostly take landscape, wildlife and Motorsport pictures. Thanks for the review.
The biggest improvement to updating to one the APS-C cameras released this year is the Real Time AF tracking which has received rave reviews from independent reviewers such as dpreview.com
Hi Mark, thanks for your video. I was just going to change my 70-350mm to a Sony 70-300mm because I am going to get the new A7iv, hopefully in Dezember. I sold my A6400 because of the evf and the missing dialing wheel in front. I lost the hope that Sony will bring one day a APS-C camera with this front wheel and a better evf. I used the 70-350mm on a Nikon 7ii and was surprised that until 100mm there was no problem in the corner. Even at 350mm I could use the photos with a little crop or the spot healing brush. But, the electronic adapter gave me trouble every 20 shots, so I had to gave it back to the seller. I hope that this corner behavior is simular on a Sony A7iv. May be later I will buy a faster 70-200mm 2,8 lens. What do you use in the fisheye range for ff? Have a nice time Best ragrds Bernd
Dear Mark, thanks for an excellent channel. I have switched from Fuji to Sony six months ago and as a paid member I really appreciate all your advice and reviews. I own the Sony A7R IV and travel and hike. Would you suggest getting the 70-350mm (in APS-C) rather than the 70-200mm F4? Thanks again!
Watch my latest A7R video where I talk about high ISO performance. The 70-350 is a small, sharp fast focusing lens but in lower ambient light the f/4 aperture of the 70-200 helps keep the ISO low - but without the 350mm reach of the 70-350. Final choice is difficult as I would choose the 70-350 when I can keep the ISO below 1000 and the 70-200 when the ambient light is low.
Hello Mark! I'm your great supporter of Italy .. congratulations for everything .. I wanted to ask for advice. i have a sony a7iii how do i focus more faces or people?
Check out my Focus masterclass move. You can only focus on one point of distance from the camera and then let depth of field cover other subjects at different distances.
I won't have the time to make this comparison in the next few months. You can find ultra high-definition examples from these two lenses on my Flickr Pro account and my Patrons on Patreon.com/markgaler can download raw files to check the image quality that can be achieved.
Temptations.... As the largest zoom i have on my A6000 is the the Tamron 18-200vc E-Mount. But the 70-300 be great as its native an is a lot lighter and easier to carry than my Sigma 150-600 sport. I may upgrade my A6000 to the A6600 one day too, mainly for the better battery life and can use just one battery spec as its the same as my A7iii.
How does the 70-350 compare to the FE 70-300? They're almost the same size, both are G and have OSS. Both provide f/4.5 @ 70mm but lose a bit at the long end.
So the older FE lens is more like its A-mount cousin - useful as a compact zoom for travelling when a big lens can't be justified, but not the lens you take when the big lens ~can~ be justified. I think the newer SEL70350G looks a better option if I decide that I need a native E-mount lens in that range. If I need full frame I can adapt my SAL70300G.
I´d like to know if the most of this lens is built in plastic, like the 18-135mm kit lens; (except the E mount). Will SONY release a new firmware update for the A6xxx series to correct this lens?
There is no new firmware update listed for the A6500 since May 2019 as I write this in November 2019. Construction materials are not listed in the specifications so I don’t want to guess.
I reviewed you 70-350 photos. I find them incredibly clear. Did you do any post processing? I really want to like this lens, and I can get a great deal on one at a local shop, but the new Sigma 100-400 seems to give better results and is much better built. Only downsides being size and extra cost.
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills , yes imagine the GM is very good Mark. I bit the bullet and ordered the 70-350 this week, based on reviews and your examples don’t think I’ll go wrong. Thanks again.
Very interested in the 70-350mm. Looks like a fantastic lens for the APS-C line. Been struggling with the 55-210mm. Don't think you can quite compare the aperture range of this 70-350 lens to the Sony full frame line-up.
@@AndrewJones-tj6et - You multiply the aperture by the crop factor of 1.5 to find the depth of field equivalent and you multiply the focal length by 1.5 to find the full frame equivalent.
Wondering how good/poor the 70-350mm is when shooting fast moving birds in low lit forest? The birds I tend to see are at native forest parks. So often the lighting condition can be poor even in a bright day as the foliage are thick.
The f/6.3 maximum aperture is the same as the FE 200-600 G OSS. If you want a brighter aperture with this reach the lens comes in a Pelican case and costs the same as a car.
It has the same maximum aperture as the 200-600 and is 1/3 stop less than the 100-400 GM and the f/2.8 zoom GM has limited reach. F/6.3 is par for the course for a lens that has reach and is affordable.
Shame you didn't test (on this video) the 70-350 on the full frame camera (with the non-crop). You'd be surprised. yes, it will have vignetting as you bump up the zoom but still very usable indeed.
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills yes sir I had 55mm & 85mm prime lens too. Before I shifted from Nikon to Sony I taken ur suggestion & I followed tat & Ur guidance help me lot. I also follow ur settings e-book for A9 body & very happy with results. I’m new to Sony system & ur videos are very helpful for me. Thanks sir 🙏🏻💐
A7Riv is to expensiv to buy for using APS-C lenses even if it work well. I was waiting for new APS-C lenses but since a6600 was a big disappoitment I don't know what to do. Same 4 year old sensor, same EVF and same screen as my a6500. Better AF don't mean much for landscape photography.
I wouldn’t want to compare the 70-350 with the 55-210 as it has almost twice the reach (a 525mm full frame equivalent). The 70-350 is not heavy for it’s zoom range but maybe heavier than some people want to carry. A new 55-210 would, however, be a nice addition to the APS-C lineup. I would also like to see a 50-150 F2.8 G, but this may be just as heavy as the 70-350.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I didn't want to compare them, either, but was forced to. Because light weight telephoto lens are just so rare. Nowadays I can shoot the moon with the 50x zoom of my Huawei phone. I believe camera manufacturers can do much better than what they are doing now.
When Mark Galer is excited, I know I should be excited as well !

I use the same combo, and it works great. My Sigma 150-600 gets heavy unbelievably fast, but this Sony lens can be carried around all day, no problem.
Great video Mark. I bought this last week for my A6500. I'm astounded, not only by the reach but by the IQ. I've always had to boost the sharpness on the 55-210, but on certain photos, I have to reduce it on the 70-350. Worth every penny.

Are you still happy with this for surf video? I take surfing stills, and I am struggling to decide on the 70-350 vs the Sigma 100-400.

Thanks!
The A7RlV is the best APS-C Camera full stop - best battery life, IQ, buffer capacity, dual card slots and the list goes in and on 😀
I have both of these lenses and they are excellent. I usually have these with my A6500 or A6400 and a 10-18 E lens. Pretty much covers it all!
Totally agree!
Yes its incredible on my A7RIV, also the reason i buy the R camera"s, they are the ultimate hybrid cams
Ordered. Enjoy your review. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for this review! I can't wait to try out the 70-350mm on my A6400 :)
Have you got it ? What is your opinion on it
I got it when I used the a6000, then I got the a6400. How does it work on that camera? GREAT! Although I have the Sigma 150-600, the Sony 70-350 is a joy to walk around with, as it's so light. Couple it with Clear Image Zoom, and you get enough reach for most circumstances.
This was great info. You always make awesome learning videos!
Thanks for the video Mark and this has helped me decide what super tele photo lens to purchase, bravo 😊👍
Thanks Mark! Love your videos! Will check out the 70 350 G tonight! Peace out!
I project on a 65 inch monitor, so I can't wait to see those lenses perform.
Hope you were happy with the outcome
Did you use the apsc sony camera to take the motogp pictures? If not, is it possible to take the same quality photos with a6xxx?
I have used everything from an A1 to an RX100VII to capture images at a MotoGP.

Ok - it drops from 4.5 to 5.0 at around 80mm and from 5.0 to 5.6 at 125 mm and from 5.6 to 6.3 at approx 215 mm
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills thank you very much Mark I appreciate that.
This is a crop frame, APSC lens. If you get this lens and get rid of others, you will get to use only 26 megapixels of the A7R4 forever.
I had been considering the fe100-400 G master for my A7R4, the 70-350 seems to good to be true, premium glass, bang sharp, better reach, fast focussing, cheaper... what am I missing?
It’s only suitable for APS-C (26 Megapixels on an A7RlV).
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills Mark thanks for great overview. Is the image quality of 70-350 on A7R4 is comparable to 100-400GM in APSC mode?
It's a great lightweight and compact alternative to the big white zooms
So you would still recommend the 70-350 shooting in crop mode,
as opposed to the 70-300 in FF with my A7iii?
I don’t really recommend APS-C lenses for 24 MP full frame users. I also don’t recommend the 70-300 for sports.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Mine comes in the day after! I have a Sony A6000 that I'm excited to test this on and it will probably be what I use it on for images.
I also have the A7iii and it will be interesting to see how it performs on both especially for video
since even on the A7iii on crop mode it should be fine for 4k or more excitingly 60fps 1080p or even 120 to get some slow-mo bird stuff.
How far were you standing from the motorbikes?
Thanks Mark for a great video and commentary! If you use APSC mode on the A7IV what would be the working pixel count? Would you get better images in APSC mode on a A7IV than let's say an a 6400?
14.6 Megapixels. The newer A6700 (using the Exmor R sensor) would have a better high ISO performance when compared to the A7IV shooting in APS-C mode. The A7IV would be better than the older A6400 and 6600 cameras.
Were the birds in flight photos at 350mm shot with the OSS off or on?
Watch my SteadyShot videos for guidance on this topic. This lens does not have a SteadyShot Mode switch (mode 1, 2 and 3) so with rapidly moving cameras you need to turn SteadyShot off - because you are no longer trying to keep the camera 'Steady'
Thanks for fast reply. I had actually seen some of your guidance on panning. I was wondering about hand holding a 525mm equivalent lens without OSS. I was also wondering if shooting at 1/2000 sec or faster would render the "opposite pull" of the OSS minimal
Happy to discuss this topic at length on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel
im looking to buy this lens. just to understand correctly, if I purchase the 16-55 for my 6400, I can still use the 16-55 on a full frame CAMERA, like the a7c, I just have to shoot in a " crop mode " setting that is already pre installed on the A7C.
That is correct.
Thank Mark for the instructive video. My question is does the sony 16 55 is recommended with a Sony A7R iii?
It’s an APS-C Lens so if you use it you will drop the megapixels to 18 on an A7RIll
I do have a 6300 mothballed, would that give me good results with the 70-350
@@3824rick - the 6300 is OK - the 6400 is better - it has the new AF tracking algorithms that also appeared on the A9 and A7RIV

Thanks for the notification- I’ll change the link 😀
Only drawback to the Sony 70-350 is the dust. It gets in fast. I don’t believe you are going to notice it in the images though. I sent my first one back because a huge piece of skin got into the very first element from the sensor. On the other side. Idk how. But. It happened. Since it was so new. I brought it back.
May have been a faulty seal on your first unit rather than a flaw in the design of the lens.
The 55-210 is sharp enough but not fast enough. Start with the lens.
The biggest improvement to updating to one the APS-C cameras released this year is the Real Time AF tracking which has received rave reviews from independent reviewers such as dpreview.com
great video, would my A6000 be compatible with the 70-350?. Thanks
Yes
Hi Mark - got any sample picks using 16-55 2.8 E wide open at 16mm? Concerned about black corners I’ve been hearing about... thx
Black corners may be due to the fact that Lightroom doesn’t have profiles for these lenses yet or the lens hood being mounted incorrectly
This can often be the case. More megapixels don't always lead to sharper images.
Can I shoot this lens with my alpha 7iii if yes what is procedure pls tell me
APS-C S35 Mode: Auto
Mark I'm new to photography and I have the A7Riv if I were to use the 70-350 in aspc mode will the range increase by x1.5 or is 350 the maximum focal length. I will like something in a smaller form factor with reach for concert photography
The Full-Frame equivalent is 105-525mm while the MP count drops to 26 MP
Great video Mark. Does the 70-350 have to be used in crop mode on my a7iii, or can I use it in ff?
@@AlphaCreativeSkills very useful info (to me at least) thanks Mark !
Mark,
Thank you for this fantastic video.
I've been a Patreon member for several months and have a question:
I bought the 70-350 in January of 2022 (largely on the strength of your review - - thanks again).
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I retyped the question on Patreon.
Hi Mark do you think i should get the 70-350 rather than the 200-600 on a9 mk1?
No - I only recommend using the 70-350 on the Full Frame R cameras. You will be shooting 10 megapixels on the A9 in APS-C mode.

I don’t use fisheye lenses as I don’t like the look. I use a couple of rectilinear 15mm lenses.
Thanks Mark. As always there is no perfect lens. I think I'll go for the 70-200 and save up for 200-600 for later. All the best!

I may upgrade my A6000 to the A6600 one day too, mainly for the better battery life and can use just one battery spec as its the same as my A7iii.

what is the megapixel we get on sony a7iii if we shot crop sensor and full frame? (70-350mm)
10 MP
Thanks Mark
How does the 70-350 compare to the FE 70-300? They're almost the same size, both are G and have OSS. Both provide f/4.5 @ 70mm but lose a bit at the long end.
The 70-300 is less sharp and has slower AF but it is full frame.

I reviewed you 70-350 photos. I find them incredibly clear. Did you do any post processing? I really want to like this lens, and I can get a great deal on one at a local shop, but the new Sigma 100-400 seems to give better results and is much better built. Only downsides being size and extra cost.
Standard Raw processing - nothing special
Have you had a chance to look at the new Sigma 100-400 Mark?
I only review gear I am looking to own or already own. I am more than happy with my FE 100-400 GM so I am not in the market for another 100-400
Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills , yes imagine the GM is very good Mark.
The maximum aperture of the 200-600 at 600 is f/6.3 (same as the new E70-350). At the shorter focal length the E 70-350 has a wider aperture.
Yes but I thought for aperture to be equivalent to full frame the APS-C would have to be the stated aperture divided by the crop factor 1.5.

I'm assuming this would be unusable for indoor low light?
It has the same maximum aperture as the 200-600 and is 1/3 stop less than the 100-400 GM and the f/2.8 zoom GM has limited reach. F/6.3 is par for the course for a lens that has reach and is affordable.
The 70/350 on an A6600 is a great lens but it takes time to learn how to get the best out of it.
Check out these images captured with the lens- www.flickr.com/gp/markgaler/3HPrL915K8
The 70-300 will definitely be a great addition to my travel pack for my 6500. This actually makes me want to purchase the A7RIV now.
It was probably just a typo but it is the 70-350. Sony has an FE 70-300 that I do not recommend for capturing fast action.
Shame you didn't test (on this video) the 70-350 on the full frame camera (with the non-crop). You'd be surprised. yes, it will have vignetting as you bump up the zoom but still very usable indeed.
Thanks for your input - there was little too much distortion for my liking
Coyotes are my neighbors.. we walk pass each other like, hey! how's the goin'?

sir plz guide me ...i'm going to buy new sony FE 35MM F1.8 full frame lens for wedding shoot is it good decision ???
Sounds good if you are using the 55 and 85 primes as well.
Greetings from India Mark. 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏. Thanks for the video. 🙏 🙏 😊😊😊😊
I just don't understand why the 70-350 is so expensive. $1000 for my A6400, but I can get a similar lens for $400 for my Pentax.
Good for you.
Easy - Don’t buy the A6600 and wait for the A6800 - problem solved 😀
@@AlphaCreativeSkills That's one solution i consider. But I would like it to be an a7000 and that Sony drop the range finder style.
The bottom line for this review, however, is that these are the two highest quality zoom lenses SONY have ever made for their APS-C range.
The 70-350mm G is still too heavy. Sony should upgrade the 55-210mm and keep it at the 300g weight range, at most around 400g.
I believe camera manufacturers can do much better than what they are doing now.
ok, but let's take the case that I have to photograph a company of people or a group?
Okay you realy say something when you talk thank you
