    I'm 79 years old, and you have helped me!! After one month I can do 10 pushups. I Can't do one pull up yet, but I'm feeling so much better, and have lots more energy. Thank you for the encouraging videos.

    • @CoffeeFiend1
      @CoffeeFiend1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would say go cautious with big 80 approaching but that said 10 pushups is something not a lot of guys your age can do. Out of interest were you able to do pull-ups when you were younger/in the past? Banded assist, negatives, hangs and 10%'s will all get you to 1 pull-up in time. I remember the first time I tried I could do about a third of 1 pull-up but in time I was able to get up and after that it was 6 in a matter of weeks. The first one can be a bitch.

      You can do your pullups with an elastic/rubberband (not sure about the correct term) to help. Also, you can hold the bar in up position, and then control the descent slowly. Both exercises help to do one's first pullup.

    This was an excellent tip that gave me some extra motivation. I have been subbed to your program for about two months now, really enjoying it. But my arm strength is still way behind so I always have trouble with the first push exercise in the circuit. I am looking to improve on that front so I can move on to the next workouts. Wonder if it would be a good idea to add an extra exercise for the arms so I get to better push-ups quicker. I can barely do two or three at the moment.

    Is that why the Perfect Push-ups device is perfect? I’m referring to the dish size spinning things sold in the 90’s. Each had a handle and as you pressed upwards, the handles naturally rotated for a more comfortable feeling. The bearings (if they had any) felt cheap but I could definitely feel that the rotation felt solid on the shoulder joints. I was very young then so I hand zero shoulder problems. But, being 52 now, I may try it on my rings. Thanks for the reminder!!

    • @MinusTheGym

    Loved the video. We have a competition in our gym on Saturday which includes push ups, pull ups and plank. Would you suggest me to do this technique? Any other suggestions you have to increase my push up and pull up numbers?
    I do around 60-70 pushups and 15-20 pull ups.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, definitely. And what are the rules of the competition? Is there a specific rep tempo required?
      Because the faster the tempo you use, the more reps you can get in because of less time under tension per rep. So, if it's allowed, speed up the reps as fast as you can. That'll help you increase the numbers.

    • @preettodkar
      @preettodkar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe making a triangle with your index vingers and thumb and squeezing the pecs at the top and the holding 3 seconds at bottom works a whole lot better then this tip imho. You really don't want to disable the chest muscles like this but actually enlist them and this method right here is emphasising the shoulders and triceps way too much which is a recipe for injury. Arms closer together and hands closer together adds the strength of your chest. Cheers.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The tip in this video will help you immediately unlock some strength by increasing tension. If you want to continually increase strength in
      your push ups, focus on variations that have you maxing out in the lower rep ranges, like 8 reps or less. Working on push ups with that level of intensity only once or twice per week for adequate recovery will produce consistent strength gains (of course, with a sound diet and good sleep). Hope that helps!

    Haha - I LOVE pseudoscience!
    Push ups will never really exercise your biceps. When you push during a push-up, it's your triceps which are the arm muscles exercised. Go to any physio or sports medicine site and this will be confirmed. Gym/training sites might get this wrong.
    But I can confirm that your method did make my push up performance a bit better. A bit.
