      OrdkaMarlSkirata It's pretty obvious he invented it. There's literally a *lightning bulb* moment when he's meditating. A bunch of people in the episode commented on how Draper was going to come back (Roger). Some of the singers are dressed similarly to the hippies at his commune. Also, Don tried to find happiness wandering around on his own, but he failed. He figured out he's an advertising man at heart and found inner peace in accepting it.

    Thank you Mad Men and Coca Cola must be loving all this attention. :) I'd like to think Don wrote this ad up with Peggy and Stan. Joan helped with the production crew. Team effort. And it was filmed in Italy because Birdie loved Italy and after work was complete Don stood on that hill top and spread her ashes.

      ​@@spenjor I agree. I was a child when this commercial aired. Watching it definitely makes me tear up. Not because of cheap sentiment, but because it reminds me of how very hateful and bitter so many people are today who cannot enjoy a display of togetherness among people of different nationalities. They have to spit on this idea and belittle it. That is because their souls dried up and died long ago.
      And, yes, I know it's "just a commercial" but it's still a beautiful idea and one that would not occur today.

    Undeniably, one of the most iconic television ads of all time. This commercial is usually in every top 10 I have ever seen of the greatest television commercials. I was just a little boy the first time I heard it, but I remember it being ear candy. I’m 47 now and this song, the visuals, the message still sends chills up my spine. Thank you for sharing this part of our youth.

    This is one of the most iconic ads of the 70s, if not the most iconic. It really just captures the overall feel of the decade. I think this was also the commercial that debuted the new slogan "it's the real thing", before this it was "things go better with Coke".

      @@AnnaLVajda My dad, who was of that generation, loved the show but used to laugh at the drinking in the office part. We wouldn't have got any work done since we would have all fallen asleep at our desks after lunch. My brother worked out that I'm the exact age of Sally Draper and I have to say the writers got the kids of that era right. Plus those of a certain age were looking at the sets and thinking OMG, mom had one of those in the dining room.

    I was born in 1972, so it is likely that my memories of this commercial are from the Christmas remake they did in 1977 with the singers holding candles. However, I'm sure I remember both and the reunion one in 1990. Such a treasured time to have grown up. The young kids of today have no idea what it was truly like.

    What really gets me of this commercial is the first verses in the lyrics: "I want to buy the world a home and furnish it with love" Beautiful. The man or woman who composed this was a genious. Just what is needed in these times where hate and violence seem to be the rule. We still have a chance but we must start now. Tomorrow might be too late.

    Really, it is sad. I was four years old at the time of these commercials. I just remember a happy feeling and seeing people come together. That's all I remember in general. That I know of, Coca-Cola promoted inclusiveness and positivity for many years. I'm not sure what happened, but apparently times have changed :(

      The people in this video are the Gen Z of the early 1970’s, probably making the Silent generation feel REPLACED, just like Gen Z are doing with millennials today in the early 2020’s, Gen Z have no idea this decade will put them to work, the 2020’s hasn’t even started........ just like Boomers were basically living like it was still the 60’s and it was already 1971!!!!!     When this commercial and jingle came out in 1971, I was 16 and a junior in high school with nothing but black hair on my head. Now 50 years later, I am a senior citizen with a head full of gray hair and living in a world where we need lots of LOVE. This commercial brings us back to happier times. The jingles should make a comeback once again. There were some great jingles during the 60's and 70's. There was the great jingles battle between Coca-Cola and Pepsi and RC(Royal Crown) colas. The great battles between cigarettes and cigars . Bring back the jingles and help make the world and people more caring towards those who are different from us.

      IMO the main problem is that more audience wants realism, they want the things happened on TV to be things that occur in their daily lives. As a result, stars are similar to the average public, and the plots are even less dramatic than what an average person encounters on an average day.

    Come on people. In the 70s we did not drink nearly as much soft drinks as you younger people do now. One bottle a week was considered as a luxury, and we didn't have plastic two liter bottles back then either. They were glass, and you had to return the bottles to the store to get your deposit back.

      Mok214 In the 1970s, I recall regularly riding a bike to a convenience store to purchase soft drinks, in two different states (MO, TX). In the latter location, my friends and I would collect a big load of bottles from home construction sites and take them to the store for the deposit. That's how we bought candy and sodas for ourselves and sometimes tickets to the movies.

      A large green bottle of Coke was 26 ounces, our family of six would have it on Friday night with pizza. The cap didn't twist off, you had to use a bottle opener. Now you can go to 7-Eleven and buy a personal Big Gulp gallon for breakfast.
      The deposit was 2 cents and you could buy two pieces of candy.

      AMEN! The younger generation never had it so good. We worked hard not play as much as "Mad Men" did but there were times we did. If you knew someone high in the Executive company and they liked you-you would enjoy some of the perks like flying to Bimini on an airplane just for fun during my lunch break. Believe me, when I say, this happened. Also, a lot of drinking during lunch was considered the "norm."

      @@bigbay1159Bang on! Just like any good ad, it is carefully designed to reflect the trends of its time, trying to come off as original while it's clearly not. That doesn't mean an ad can't be appreciated on its own. Just keep in mind that the creatives at an ad agency work under a lot of pressure to come up with results (=$$$). Nope, I didn't watch too many episodes of Mad Men, I actually worked as a musician/composer for TV commericals for over 16 years, until virtual libraries took over.

    I’m not a coke person but I want this song to be used again for an anniversary I think I know how it should be used
    It’ll show different families getting ready for something with one of them singing the song in the background (I hope you get what I mean) one by one it shows them getting ready and then driving somewhere finally it shows them all coming to the same place for a party where the chorus finally harmonizes and the tagline is Coke bring the world together for generations (aka whenever they do it)

    My mother told me about this commercial years ago. She was pregnant with me and had horrible morning sickness. To this day she gets nauseous when she hears this song! I'm so glad I finally got to see this infamous commercial💟🙏
