Thank you for your kind words! Your suggestion is a great one - I'd love to do a video about register, and I'll start planning one soon. Unfortunately it'll be a while until I can make any more videos - we had a break-in at home a few weeks ago, and my camera and other pieces of equipment were all stolen :(
hi there! I really enjoyed your video You are so funny :) thanks for the tips. I hate writing in my language, my second language and in English, well letºs say that I definitely HATE it! I just hope to be lucky enough that day, to have some inspiration, don t know something similar as a miracle, for example, will suit me well.
I'm taking the CAE next month, and trust me, your lessons are being really useful! However, I can't find the videos related to the writting part explained one by one as you have said in this one. Could you help me out? Thanks in advance!
Hi Ignacio, I was hoping to make more videos to go in this series, to explore every part of the Writing. But unfortunately my apartment was broken into recently and the thief made off with all of my camera equipment. Shame. However, I do have this video that looks at the different parts of the writing paper: th-cam.com/video/oqexoUfv0_0/w-d-xo.html - perhaps it will help a bit! Thanks for the kind words!
Sorry about that! By the way, I'm taking the CAE computer based, as it is something '' new'', do you have any tips about that modality? Keep up with this excellent job!
I don't have any experience with the computer-based exam, sadly. I work in Poland and we're a touch behind technologically-speaking. Hopefully in the next few years I'll learn more, but until then, remember that you might type at a different speed to how you'd otherwise write - if you're a slow typist you might need to take that into consideration.
I would like to ask you one last question Christopher. As I can see in the second part of the writting paper, there is always a report or proposal ( which are very simmilar ), so, as I'm running out of time, is it wise to just hard study this two types and leave the rest? Thank you!
I'd say that it's a good idea to concentrate on the Report and Proposal, yes - because they are the only two writing types that have specific formatting requirements. Use headings for each paragraph. Include figures wherever possible (remember, you can just make up the information you want to use in the report/proposal). The other writing types are not terribly difficult to get right on the day - writing a letter/email is pretty easy as long as you remember to include all of the information in the rubric. Good luck!
I know this question is not related with the video but can you give me an opinion on my exam results? I got an A overall at the Advanced level. My results were all over the place: Reading: 204/210 (A); Use of English: 210/210 (A); Writing: 180/210 (C); Listening 196/210 (B); Speaking: 210/210 (A) I got bare mininum to pass in Writing which made me gutted because I got nearly perfect scores during the whole year at Cambridge School and only colleagues of mine with C overall got the same grade as me. I remember using some good advanced vocabulary, inversions, conditionals and other advanced elements. I feel like I deserve a higher C or a B at least. :/ Do you think it's worth asking for a remark? It's not very likely that the result will be lowered, because the writing mark is so low already, bur remarks are always risky.
Personally, I wouldn't ask for a remark. It's always hard to say where you went 'wrong' - if wrong is even the word - especially when it comes to Writing. Perhaps you didn't follow the genre conventions closely enough, or you missed one of the Content points - it's impossible to know - but asking for a remark isn't going to change anything. Congratulations on your A grade - that's a massive achievement. Instead of worrying about the marks you got that you didn't like, concentrate on the next big milestone - C2 Proficiency. You've already got the equivalent of a Pass at C2 level, so now you can focus on trying to get an A there too :)
@@CloselyObservedEnglish Yeah. The only preparation I did for the exam besides attending classes 4h/week was taking 4 practice tests of the Testbook. I only managed to get an A because of perfect scores in other areas. I thought my writing was amazing and I barely passed and I thought my speaking was garbage and I got a perfect score. These results don't seem to accurately represent your English knowledge, not even remotely. Thank you for your kind words, I love your channel! I'm not sure if I should go for Proficiency since the Writing is such a big part of that level and at the Advanced level and the person who corrected mine thought it was mediocre. :/
