    I've never seen anyone do that but I have heard of people in California taking metal ripple racks and bolting them down to bedrock where it is flat and using it for sluicing but pretty cool to see someone actually do it in action

      @jeremycanterohioprospecting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Chris,
    Nice idea about the sluice, but I am really curious over the new flat bottomed Batea. How does it work compared to a pointy bottomed Batea?

  • @dennisstewart9245
    @dennisstewart9245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i see you changed patea pans to the flat bottom one, does it work much differently than pointed one? be safe out there Chris cheers

    • @TheFriskySquid
      @TheFriskySquid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm also wondering this, I feel like it might have more of a tendency to blow out gold if you are too aggressive compared to the normal batea.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flat pan is easier to move the dirt. It fits in a bag. Not as heavy. But you're correct, easier to stuff up. I like it the best from the ones I've tried so far.

    The old timers used to dig a trench in the bedrock, riffles and all and run the water through it and do exactly what you are doing. Ion idriess describes it in his book.

  • @trosen5339
    @trosen5339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t know anything about this stuff but Instead of bringing the whole sluice couldn’t you scoop out some of the rocks in the river to make a trench and bring a long mat and place it inside the river to catch the gold to form a barrier between the pay dirt and the river bottom?

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The point of this was to show that you don't need matting. The mat won't increase the gold take because it's working vastly different to a normal sluice

    • @trosen5339
      @trosen5339 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vo-Gus Prospecting ok but I think it would be cool to see you try it in a video and see what the results would be. Just a suggestion from a fan. Keep up the great work. 👍

    "Using a creek as a sluice..." !! It's been in my mind for quite some time now Well worth the Hour and fifteen minutes to watch. I never knew the old prospectors did, but stands to reason. I've even watched you Chris, move rocks around to improve flow into a sluice. Being a broke rrse pensioner I've learnt to think way beyond 'envelopes'!

    Similar to when banks get erroded naturally concentrating gold & is called sloshing.
    I have knocked down undercut banks before big rains are due & on returning found nature has pushed the overburden away leaving a line of gold behind.
    Work smart 👍🏼

    Do you ever use the small river sluice you can carry in with a backpack? It's only about 3 foot and just uses the power of the creek. Nice experiment 👍 but I think a sluice would be better

  • @Washman-jw3hl
    @Washman-jw3hl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow Chris that worked incredible. I wonder if it would be better to just drop some of that "expanded metal"? Is it called? I feel like it would be easy to carry in from the car.

    P.s frigin awesome idea man iv 9ften wondered if it was possible to do with out major losses and now im gona try this.
    In theory chris if i grabbed to long length bits of broken bed rock and placed them horrizontal to the stream inches apart and place them 1/3 way down would it be safe to say the gold would nest in that point and would still allow the sands to filter out this is frigin handy.
    Love ya work u legend an chris i rekin you need to start a vogus gold bible lol

    Excellent idea now if you use a screen on top and make a flat spot for your mat underneath you’ve got simple way to move the overburden away and super easy clean up from the mat and the gold won’t travel away down the sluice😬 thx for sharing see you on the next one👍🏻👊🏻
