  • Capture Fine Gold With A Simple River Sluice Modification
In this video I tackle a problem... (not being able to catch a significant amount of Very Fine Gold that was escaping my Standard Sluice Setup - the result being I was left with many buckets of Tailings ... way too much material for a blue bowl). So naturally I set about coming up with a solution that could handle bulk material. Adopting a common large scale sapphiring concept (the use of Vibrations), I set about and was able to modify and thus convert my ordinary River Sluice into a Vibration Bed... and an extremely effective one at that. Watch as I test run and tweak this vibration Bed to get fantastic results. It only cost me about $70 and a day or two of time. Anyone can do this.

If you can't afford a concrete vibrator, a cheap orbital palm-sander is a good alternative. Buy a second-hand/used one, as they will trash their bearings if bolted securely. Mount it on springs.

All it’s doing it’s mechanically breaking up the surface tension and allowing the surface gold to sink and gets trapped by the sluice box. Amazing video! Cheers from California! This is one of those one of kind think outside the box teachers that really know their stuff!

I saw this setup a year or so back when you did a clean up for Chris, you explained the setup/how/why. I immediately ordered a new sluice and vibration motor from that video.
Built my own, and love it!! I just now 38 minutes ago found your video, thanks for the set up idea. I’ve always thought adding vibration to the sluice would help settle more gold out. You proved it does. Thank you and God bless you sir‼️

Great to see a vibrator on a sluice! I have been experimenting with a wand vibrator in a pail of material to concentrate heavies at the bottom before panning. It works quite well but it's not anywhere near as good as this!

So glad I saw this video. I have asked Pat Keene about this very idea and we discussed it at length for not only already being used in commercial setups but how to get it into small personal setups on the go. I have heard about snipers going in after a commercial season and people getting good fines out of their tailings from the season. A lot of these commercial outfits can still benefit and it blows my mind they don’t do this especially since they run so long and run mats that don’t have active exchange and clean outs at more often intervals.
Another gentleman was talking about a two stage vibrator that not only changes RPM but also somehow frequency much like a sine wave testing generator for speakers. Meaning going through many frequencies to affect a better length of the box. But it seemed to be cheaper to run more vibrators along the length instead.
Nonetheless this was an awesome video and I’m finally glad to see others think like I do and also get good results

This might be the best gold video on TH-cam, absolutely genius.
Furthermore, finally there is somebody that made a gold video that tests the tailings. Everybody wants the ooooos and ahhhhhs from looking at the gold, but nobody seems to want to do the most important work that of testing the tailings. It's like we live in a world of idiots.
I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to have found this video, made my day.

Very well done brilliant, another improvement you could add is a Variarc Transformer hooked into the inverter and the vibrator plugged into the Variarc by doing this you can control the voltage to your vibrator thus giving you many more options of vibration waves, full blast short fast waves turned down slower waves, I use a Variarc Transformer on my clean out sluice and can adjust the water flow Exactly the way I want it, you could do the same with your vibrator and get a variety of Different types of vibration that could even affect the gold better.

Crazy experiment that I wouldn't have guessed would have caught any gold, especially with carpet, tiny expanded metal, & big-ish rifles. A shaker sluice that still needs to be panned instead of a one and done shaker table. Hmm; idk; I guess it's good if you can't make a shaker table.
No videos for 3 years, No reply for a year; was interesting to think about though. Would like to figure out how to do fine gold recovery or most of it straight away. - Am thinkin tight roller screens to classify fine gold and sand at the moment, never thought about vibration as I thought it would compact or bounce gold out and wash away. Cool vid.

Just noting - your tailings bucket is being vibrated throughout the process somewhat, which means that gold will may be settling downward in the tailings bucket, and therefore won't be in a scoop from the top of the bucket. It would be worth panning down further throughout your tailings bucket to understand whether any gold is getting through. The reason I mention this is that you said the material is getting compacted on your sluice, and gold has a very hard time moving through compacted material. Just something too think about. Thanks for your video.

I like your riffle set up, similar to mine. About 8 years ago I was determined to make a riffle tray that could handle a variation in water flow and make the tray angle / pump size not so critical and catch a broader size of gold. To achieve that I had to reduce the size of the tray from 12 " to 8 "width to get the velocity I needed and I made up the riffle rack incorporating the 3 classic riffle designs, 4x Z, 4 x angled and 2 @ right angle. Spent ages making it up out of stainless etc and it was amazing what it captured and worked perfectly. These days Im getting lazy and I replaced it with the dream mat to save on processing time with the massive difference in cons volume. I was pretty proud of what I made but as it is with most things these days there is always someone else one step ahead. As per your vibrator, well done.

We know that we are missing gold, but don't want to admit it to others or worse ourselves. I know that we lose super fine gold in the silty water. Do you feel that the vibration is dropping this float gold? Your other principles of slowing the water and sluice angle are spot on . Years ago we put a small vibrator run off our air supply on my dredge as advised by an old timer who was willing to share his experiences like you are doing. Well done and thanks for sharing!

    • @1topskyrocket
      @1topskyrocket 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@arcticminer32 I've had my own thoughts and theories about how to catch the ultra fine gold particles. One of them is to use alfalfa that has been charged with electrical static and shoved into a laundry bag that has holes everywhere more like a fish net. And as the water passes through this bag particles of metals will be attracted to it. Another one is to have a sluice that gets really wide so it slows down near the bottom of the sluice box. The wider it gets the slower it will become and hopefully allowing the ultra fine gold to drop out and stay in a sluice box. Things I have never tried since coming up with them from other miners knowledge and experience..

I always knew concrete vibrators would be instrumental with gold prospecting/mining back when I saw one in action in construction. :) You should try to rig up a metal rod to stick into a bucket of concentrates with water in it...and then vibrate for 5 minutes and see if it drops all the gold to the bottom of the bucket (or smaller container like gallon milk jug or transparent container that size like quart jar)

Pretty clever idea using the weight of gold itself, coupled with vibration, to winnow out all you can. Reminds me of the sonic cleaner principle.

Thanks mate. I guess it is really when you consider the frequency of vibration. Regards Aussie

Need to try a setup like that for the gold in my area. Only thing I've found that works on it is to collect by panning and smelting the cons. Nice job dude!!!!

Absolutely brilliant ! Just ordered my vibrator on ebay. $19.95 AUD and free postage. Great work.

    Super cool idea!
some thoughts I had. So if you want more vibration you should try to isolate the sluice from the wood frame with some rubber or other soft material. That will allow the box to move a little more. Also the vibration is getting in the tub your apparatus is sitting on. So it's getting into the tailings bucket so the gold may all settle to the bottom of the bucket.

Thanks for the tips! Definitely worth considering. BTW...I did check the buckets..and they were gold free...just didn't show that. Regards Aussie

Absolutely spot on. Use rubber mounts to attach the sluice to the bath and you'll get much more vibration where you want it. It'll be heaps quieter you could possibly turn the vibrator down a notch or use a smaller 12V one.

For me the vibration worked so well that my water was jumping up in the air. I had to add a speed controller on the vibrator.
