Great mods, I have the same bike myself. The really tall windscreen is not for me for sure, I went with the double bubble. Love the hand guards but I like my mirrors better, wish there was a compromise. I have been looking for a way to lower my footpegs so thank you for the tip.
Nice upgrades! You have a nice touring setup bro. I have the exact same bike and I'll be doing a video as well. I think you just talked me into getting the wind screen. I'm torn between the sergeant seat ant the factory gel seat though.
Thanks! I heard mixed reviews on the factory gel, but I've never heard a bad word about sargent so I decided to go with them. It really has made all the difference.
Jonathan Chen That's funny, we met at Cycle Gear last year. You had the ZX10 and your girl was riding the Ninja 650 before you bought your N1K. We might have to go for a ride sometime, hit me up on PNWriders
I usually don't like these videos, it just randomly came up on my youtube. But these are some nice upgrades. I really like that cruise control. Also, this is a bit random, how do you like the fj compared to the ninja? It's always hard to find comparisons because they are so different, but they are both front runners for next bike in my book. thanks and stay safe out there
Nice mods. How did you get the Ram mount affixed to the center of the handlebars? Is it a suction base? Also, I think that bar end mirrors might fix the light into the mirror issue. I have the same bike only candy cascade blue.
Great video! I can't believe you happen to own both bikes I've been looking at, and can't decide on. I really thought I wanted the FJ-09 but then I rode it at a Yamaha demo ride day. I'm not sure what caused this, but within 20 minutes of riding the FJ, the outsides of both my palms just past the wrists were aching. I'm wondering if you ever find this? This never happens on my Harley cruiser. I also thought the bike was a bit too light and not comfortable enough for me, especially if I had a passenger. Do you think the Ninja 1000 would be a better bike to take long distances with a passenger? I'm 5'11" 200 lbs. Which would you say has better suspension for touring comfort with a passenger? Contrary to so many reviews on the FJ-09, I thought it was a bit lacking in the low end, and I'm curious to know how they compare in low RPM power.
I just rode my ninja 3hrs to the beach today and loved every minute. The first hour I rode the FJ I had the same ache you are describing, then it went away. Not sure really if my body just adjusted but I no longer ache. Both do well with passengers, the FJ is probably more comfortable two up even though it does feel incredible light. The ninja is much smoother, faster, and will give the feel of a larger bike.. The FJ will ride more like a dirt bike in a sense, but still a great touring bike.
How did the hand guards work out? It seemed like the reflection from the mirrors would make it difficult to use them and mirror extenders might not be enough.
+Jonathan Chen Thanks, it seemed like a great idea. Another concern I had was reflection off the fairing and windscreen. Have you tried any other lights yet? Visibility is key as you well know. What about going with handlebar (of some type) mirrors and then using the stock mirror mounts to mount LEDs?
@@fazesaixox7481 @Jonathan I will be receiving my handguards today but not sure how to wire it to the bike. Does it go to the battery directly or can we use the accessory port? Do we need a relay or something? Thanks for the help!
It's definitely heavier so you get a more "protected" feel, much better storage also. Comfort wise, the FJ-09 all day. Which is why I'm taking the FJ on a trip this summer instead.
matt taylor It's a tough decision sometimes lol. The FJ is the most versatile bike in my opinion. Fast, powerful, comfortable, looks good. Price is amazing, and plenty of accessories. You're going to love Oregon, I try to get down there as much as possible. I lived in Portland for 2 years back in 2012-13.

That windshield... ye gods it looks crappy!
By the way, I may see you out sometime on the road, I'm in Kent and it looks like we ride the same roads, I ride a Blue N1K with black gear.
If my hunch is right....you might know me as WestCoastNinja?

Hey mate have you ever scraped the lowered foot pegs?? Thanks I have a 17 1000 love it!!
stephen lane no I haven't, but I also ride fairly conservative.
where do you buy the motorworks lowering blocks
Where did you get that Usb charger? i like it. what exact model is your x-grip mount?
Thank you. Nice bike i have a 2015 myself
Got the charger at cycle gear. Honestly have no idea what model the x grip is. I think its the standard one.
Hey Johnathan, great video! Is the RAM stem mount holding up ok? I read some mixed reviews about it.
i have been using since 6 months and no problems at all.
How did the hand guards work out? It seemed like the reflection from the mirrors would make it difficult to use them and mirror extenders might not be enough.
Pretty terrible, I haven't got around to getting extenders but for now I never use the lights in the guards.

I have them on my ninja 1000 and have no issues with mirrors

I have a problem about sargent seat
If I install the front Sargemt seat , the stock rear seat still fit the front seat , or not?
yes, i bought the sergeant seat and rear cover. I left the stock rear seat on the bike but had it recovered , fits great!
How do you like this bike vs the FJ-09 I know this is considerably more touring oriented
It's definitely heavier so you get a more "protected" feel, much better storage also. Comfort wise, the FJ-09 all day. Which is why I'm taking the FJ on a trip this summer instead.
Yeah I'm moving to Oregon and there are more opportunities for long ride which the r1 isn't great at.
I've been looking at the FJ as well as I like yamaha products. With so many bikes how do you chose what to ride lol

Another question I had if the FJ is so much more comfortable why keep the ninja? I guess what perks make you keep it with the FJ.
You've gone out of your way to turn a really sporty sports tourer into a tourer? I think you should have bought a Multistrada!
For 18k I'd rather have 2 bikes. Which is what I ended up doing :)
That ram mount ... how is it attached to your motorcycle?
You get the mount kit. It goes through the tree/clamp and a bolt us used to expand and hold in place.
I see you can rotate the mount - does it represent a problem when riding i.e. the whole mount rotates with the phone ?
