What I don’t think people can appreciate about Romo is that he’s an undrafted quarterback - those kind of quarterbacks are lucky to even make the team. Anything after that is a bonus. Yet, all Romo has done with his time with the Cowboys is become their all time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
That deserves respect for a successful career.

This. I think he’s unfairly vilified, both as a player & broadcaster. I generally like his work calling games, though do think he’d be much more widely embraced if he’d just pull it back 10-15%. The only time he’s really gotten on my nerves was after the winning TD in the Super Bowl. He could’ve explained the play & all that, but he should’ve given a couple minutes over to the ‘less is more’ style of commentary at that time.

People don't evaluate QBs _at all_ really. Like most everything in life, they mindlessly conform to the most popular memes. Another popular channel did the most insane level research & one realizes Tom Brady is the Luckiest SOB to ever play the game.
But no one wants to think. "If Rodgers is better then how come he didn't win more games?" Justin Fields made the Bears the #1 offense for a 3 week stretch in '22 _BEFORE_ they acquired D.J. Moore & somehow everyone blames _HIM_ for losing all three of those games.
Even the comments here: wtf? You're all struggling to try to find excuses to paint his _WHOLE career_ either All Good or All Bad.
      _Why?_

Dallas' chance to win a Superbowl was Dak and Zeke's rookie season. If he hadn't gotten injured in the preseason, it would've been the best combination of O-line, run game, and defense he would have ever had.
I get why they didn't let him fight for his job, it's hard to justify benching a QB leading a team to the 1-seed, but that offense ran (literally) through Zeke, not Dak. Dallas just needed smart, experienced QB play in the playoffs, which is what Romo had that Dak didn't.
If Romo started vs Green Bay, Dallas doesn't fall behind and probably wins by multiple scores.

    • @ErikCB912
      @ErikCB912 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I agree. The 2016 season was the best the chance cowboys had to win the Super Bowl post 1996. I really think they were the best team in the nfl that season. The problem was that with Dak starting, the nucleus of the team was too young and that team was built for Romo, not Dak. A rookie Dak Prescott couldn’t connect with Dez like Romo could. I think if Romo played, they would have won the Super Bowl that season. They were better than GB and the falcons and they wouldn’t have choked that badly against an overrated (in my opinion) patriots team.

Then the NFL offenses started changing more from what he was running and because he didnt know as much, NOR DID IT SEEM LIKE HE EVER DID ANY RESEARCH/PREP, he just started doing the "ooooooooooo well I DONT KNOW JIM". He went from a broadcaster with great insight into the game to being your drunk uncle on thanksgiving in the booth for every game.

Romo was underrated his career. He was elite and carried teams with horrible O Lines and poor to avg defenses. Along with having the clapper as his coach. He had to throw the ball so damn much due to lack of good running game. He had the most 4th quarter comebacks during his tenure and went toe to toe with Peyton Manning in 2013 vs Denver only for his defense to shit the bed. When he finally had a competent team in 2014, he lost due to the Dez Catch.
Yet year after year, idiot fans and analysts called him a choker and a interception artist. Its like people chose who to hate without knowing facts. The dude only uas 2 ints in playoff appearances. The cowboys without Romo won 30% of games and with Romo won 60%.

Even though I am from the Bay area and my family are 49ers fans and I grew up in the '90s and was definitely aware of the 49ers and cowboys rivalry although to be fair I didn't really watch sports as a kid I only started watching them since the mid-2000s, but anyways I have never had a problem with Tony Romo. Sure he played for the cowboys who have that historic rivalry with the 49ers, but hey you know what I think Tony Romo is a great guy and I thought he was a really fantastic player. It's unfortunate for him that he's never gone past the divisional round in the playoffs. He's come close to doing so, but let's face it there's so many other players who just have not had the chance to even get even that far in the playoffs the divisional round that is. So although he never actually was able to lead the cowboys to win the big one which You honestly can't entirely blame it on him, I mean come on there are 32 teams in the NFL and at the time there were a total of 12 teams in the playoffs now there's 14 of them all trying to go all the way and win that Super bowl. It is not an easy thing to do.
If I'm not mistaken Tony Romo actually has the greatest regular season statistics of any quarterback in cowboys history. Him not winning enough in the playoffs does not mean he's a choker or that he's bad. The only time I could say he really choked and for all we know it might not even been a joke It might have been just some accident just some freak accident and he didn't even have issues with nervousness or anything for all we know unless he admitted to having some at the time I don't know but when he fumbled on that holding on to the ball for the kicker in that wild card round where they lost of the Seahawks. Anyways I think he was a great player and when I did watch his broadcasts when he first started I thought he did an amazing job..
I do have to point out that since watching his broadcasts I haven't really watched live sports like since like 2018 or something. I've only occasionally dabbled and watching a few live sports here and there depending on what it is as I just typically just don't watch anything live anymore. So perhaps because of that I wasn't aware of Tony Romo possibly going stale in the broadcast booth. Who knows? Maybe perhaps he'll win some Emmys for his broadcasting prowess but still be well hated like Joe Buck. Yes Joe Buck has actually won some Emmys even though it's hard to really meet anybody who likes him at all😂

I've been a Dallas my whole life. I remember the 1-15 season. Romo was awesome. Arguably the best undrafted QB ever. It takes a team to win. And routinely, Romo would be clutch by getting a late go-ahead TD only to have the defense give up an even later go-ahead TD or field goal to the other team. The same thing is happening to Dak now. I also think Romo would have won that playoff game against Green Bay in Dallas Dak's rookie year. That was a fantastic team and the decision to start Dak over Romo was a bad call. Dak made several rookie mistakes in that one that Romo would have probably not made.

If you have to bring up a flawed metric like passer rating or the fact that he was undrafted, you are reaching for it. He was 2-7 in elimination games with as many TOs as TDs (not including that fumble in the Seattle PO game). He was part of the two biggest blown leads in Dallas history. In '06 with PO seeding on the line he had 6 TDs to 10 TOs in his final 5 games; in '07 again with PO seeding on the line he had 1 TD to 5 TOs in his final 3 games (9 games in those 2 years - 7 TDs and 15 TOs - not good). In his only PO and PB years ('06,'07,'09, '14) he had 33 PBs and 9 APs playing behind him. IOW, when he wasn't on loaded teams, he did nothing. Whenever I see Romo as an announcer or any cowboys for that matter I just mute it and listen to the local radio broadcast while I watch the game 😂

6:34 it wasn't an extra point attemp to tie the game, it was a field goal attempt tht would have given them the lead.

I found my way to clickbait sports via TGS. I’m a Cowboys fan but I also personally connect with his style presentation and humor. I respect what all of you do and all of you seem to be authentic and work toward and audience that appreciates what you do, not simply catering to what might be profitable. Brandon might be someone that i think clicks with me on a degenerative level and the cadence with which we speak and joke meshes……but i truly loved watching this video as a cowboys fan.

Announcer Romo seemed to make more noises than words during his first few years. Apparently he's improved, but I don't watch the sport anymore so all I have are memories of him grunting like someone defecating while giving birth.

If Romo had some defenses that could hold the lead in the final minutes of a game, he'd have lead the Cowboys to multiple Super Bowls.

The only reason he was really hated was cuz he played for the Dallas Cowboys. Dak gets the same treatment and is scrutinized more than most QBs of his talent. If I was a QB, I'd stay clear of the Cowboys. There's so much pressure on that team to win super bowls even though it isn't warranted cuz they need to at least get to a conference championship before we start talking super bowls.

If JJ had provided this amazing scrambler with a decent line so he didn't have to run for his life every snap Romo would be a multi superbowl winner. JJ thought he could get by with a cheapo OL because of Romo's talent and didn't buy an OL.

  • @KenKaniff-dw4jw

Romo was elite af. If given a offensive line and a decent defense early in his career he would of got a chip. Not his fault Patrick Crayton can't catch and he stopped his route. Not his fault Demarco Murray fumbles, and not his fault on the Dez Bryant catch. Same fans that scream he chokes are the ones that blamed him for 505 yards, 5 tds against Manning and the Broncos. That 1 game is a great measurement of how his career is skewed

Wait, wait wait… Did you say Sean Payton was the head coach of the Cowboys when Romo came out of college?? I did not know that. Being a Washington fan always loved Romo. He may have beat up on us once or twice, but I always knew, they were never gonna make a playoff run even if they lead the division. I slept better back then.

He has got to be one of the worst broadcasters I’ve ever seen. I will always remember him for that ridiculous call he made in the buffalo Cinci play off game where on a pass that went out of bounds he basically said “if the throw had been lower and he had kept his feet in bounds that would have been a catch” what a nuanced take lol, oh yeah and definitely that play where he was like “oooooooooo jiiiiiiim” hilariously bad
