  • Modified off-road and overland Jeep Renegade Trailhawk build. This 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk has conquered multiple difficult trails including Top of the World, Middle Saint Vrain, and Moab trails. This build has a roofnest RTT, 1.5in Teraflex lift, Eibach Springs, Daystar Rock Sliders, Valkyrie upgraded skids. Davon talks about his reasons for buying a renegade and what he has done and why. Clips of the Renegade in action are shown while he talks (although more packed into the second half of the video).
    Channel Members have access to our filming schedule and I want you to be in the videos! The Black Bear crew gets additional easy to edit videos but offer more up to date info on trails (since guides take a while to put together). The Holy Cross crew gets more say in what videos get edited for the channel (video credits and early looks at Trail Guide edits). / @coloradomallcrawlers

    Channel Info:
    My name is Dewie Jones and I’m the reluctant host, videographer, and video editor for the channel. I’ve daily driven a wrangler my entire driving life starting with a 1997 TJ and now I’m in a nine year old 2012 JK. I like the challenge of driving a stock wrangler on tough trails. My buds are not new to wheeling either, but for their own specific reasons, now wheel aggressive SUV based off-roaders like KL Cherokees, 4Runners, Land Cruisers, VW Touregs, and Renegades. We decided Colorado Mallcrawlers was a funny name so that's how we got here.
    For trail planning, I use the Funtreks Books (amazon search: Funtreks books). I have the current editions of the Colorado books and Moab. I finish up my trail planning with trails offroad as they can sometimes have more detail as well as user submitted current conditions feedback. I’m testing GPS apps and currently don’t use one. Here’s my video that tells you how I do it. • Find off-road trails t...

Share them with your nervous wheeling buddies (the Facebook groups never let me... self promotion apparently) so they can know that they can do the trail. My RAM was at the dealer during the big snow week we had in Texas last month. The loaner they gave me was a Renegade 4X4. The performance was amazing in all that snow and ice. I really want a Cherokee Trailhawk KL but after driving that Renegade and seeing what seems to be a bigger after market options makes me question the Cherokee. I'm having a heck of a time locating a 2019 or 2020 Cherokee Trailhawk Elite optioned the way I want it in Texas. Great video Dewie.

      They really are sweet and that size is a major asset! If they had a rear locker and a true low range, it’d be a no brainer for me... I’d get the renegade. Without those two, it’s a tougher call. Interesting to see what comes from this talk about a hybrid and rear solid conversion. Check out the comments here for more info... I’ll be looking into it when I have some time.

      The renegades are sweet! Also, I won’t respond to your other comment, but that red renegade wasn’t destroyed at all. He was just new at wheeling and that was an early video for us. I now no longer take on newer drivers for filming purposes. I wouldn’t mind guiding new drivers, but that was never the intention of these videos. The intention is to go film a trail, have a great time, then I’ll edit it to make it a trail guide so others can learn from our experience on the trail. Thanks for watching!

      So I can’t remember the exact KENWOOD system but it was a dmx-7001s or something like that. It had a video input for the factory rear camera and an input for the front camera. It took some creative thinking on how to mount the camera up front. Just used that metal from Home Depot that has the holes in it. Had to rig it. Then ran the cables the way the amp went through the firewall. It has a camera button I could push to see what front camera was seeing.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I can get a used low mileage stock Renegade Trailhawk for around 10k (almost did this) and he spent 3.5k on off-road mods. I don’t think the new ones are much more. Let’s just say 20k even tho I could build this for 14k... how much is a Rubicon? Mine with affiliate pricing in 2012, was around 32k, listed for 36-37k. About twice the price of that. I’m currently shopping for a second vehicle and I’m looking at new Rubicons... the lowest I can find is 48k, heck even the Willys I built was high 40s. Used TJ and JK Rubicons are around 25k and you may be getting an abused one like mine, I don’t think your statement is accurate, sorry man.

    • @tmzz3609
      @tmzz3609 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@coloradomallcrawlers I was talking new prices. I can completely see a used Rubicon holding more value than a similar year/mileage Renegade.
      The 2021 msrp on a renegade TH is 29k compared to 38k for the Rubicon. If you start adding up the cost of the parts and labor you are quickly closing in on a Rubicon while reducing fuel economy, onroad performance and not getting close to a Rubicons capability.
      If buying new I would much rather pay the extra for the Rubicon and have everything covered by warranty vs voiding my warranty on an a brand new Trailhawk.
      I like the Trailhawks. I'm actively shopping for a Cherokee TH(that's what brought me to your channel) but my main draw to the KL over a Wrangler is the fuel economy and onroad handling. As soon as you start sacrificing those I'm looking back at the Wranglers. Ever asked Sean or Zach how there mods affect their fuel economy over stock?

I’m also shopping the KL as it could be interesting to keep one stock as I think it could do most of the trails stock. Still, I’m use to wranglers as that’s all I’ve owned. I hope we talked about it on Sean’s walkaround but if we didn’t, I believe he gets what I get stock. 22-23 highway, 17-19 city.
