In today's video you'll see the guys at BRS Motorsport dyno testing the all new 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI MK8 in Dolphin Gray. The car was fully stock and the video also includes a 0-240km/h acceleration test on the german autobahn!

Didn't like the design first but it is starting to grow on me. It actually looks pretty good.
Same for me. Like the MK7 after the MK6 ..
Look is very dependent on wheels. Generic Richmond 18" wheels doesn't look good on Mk8 GTI.

Golf 8.5 will have better design. Same happened to mk7.

Could not agree more theses 19 look great.. the smaller 18 I hate! Other than that looks good .i like the crease across the car..like the mk6 had.
100% agree, said all along the mk8 gti/gtd look awful, and the wheels is my biggest gripe, was looking around a white one a couple of days ago while at vwpridepark having a new battery fitted on my 7.5 gtd (shit battery life btw) and the thing looked ugly as fuck, yet the colour on this one actually makes me want one 🤔

It could potentially be because it hasn’t run in. My rs3 was the same when I first got it, it’s been getting louder with the miles I put on. Time will tell, or it could be the even stricter regulations

@@kyalami_green_rs3 but a dyno itself is never noisy, it’s just a fan in front to cool the car and rollers on the floor for the wheels to spin on unless I am misunderstanding, in any dyno the only noise you hear is the car.
Can you get a 300hp Clubsport on there and run tests? Keen to see if they also over produce like the R is doing
Was this dyno reading wheel horsepower or crank horsepower?

@@NM2255 it’s weird my old focus st -4 run a 60-120 in 15.9 exactly the same as the gti. I still think he gti has more bhp 😆🤞🏻how does it keep with my old focus st4 with 270bhp

Why the torque in NM on the screen is different from the pop up text? 260 nm vs 370 nm??
Would most likely be measured in foot pounds. 273 foot pounds matches up with 370 nm

Are your results wheel horsepower or estimated crank horse power?
I've seen a lot of hate for the looks, but I think I like it quite a bit. Very sharp imo. It isn't radically different from the MK7, so either way I think it's fine and it'll grow on people.

Its Not 4wd its on an AWD dyno so the rear wheels are being spun by the machine !!!!
From a front-side view, the front bumper actually looks really good imo, but from a directly in front view, it looks weird. Other than that, the rest of the car looks great, especially the rear bumper with its minor tweaks from the MK7/7.5. The rest of the car looks almost exactly like the MK7/7.5 gen model.
Cant wait to see the aftermarket aesthetics happen for the MK8.

Whats'up with the tail lights tho... Are they going to apply the same thing they did with the mk7 that they put the better looking tail lights on the most expensive line? They already did too much screwing up the mk8 disign... I hate the led strip on the front grill btw. I loved so much this car and they ruined it. I'd prefer the mk7.5 all the way.
Cant wait to roll up next to one of these in my N, perfect car to match up, the Gti has always been the benchmark hot hatch and it will always be. Apr tune these things will be animals.
Fwd hot hatch bench mark. Alot better and quicker other hot hatches.

Hm i really hated the golf 8 design and said that the gti looked ugly but now in this colour, i can see the potential again. All it needs is a lower et type rim and a lowering kit

@@I_am_Monty it's fwd but dyno is 4x4 and to prevent cut power, you'll do run for 4 wheels like on the road
yea,it got torque vectoring also so you can drift using rear wheels

You don’t need to run it in. I strangled my 7 Gti from day 1 and 100,000kms later no issues.

It’s to test the speed with total tire friction. All GTI’s are front wheel drive, thankfully.
@@mkviis not sure if thats thankful...:) my cupra likes to spin its wheels on bad tarmac(the elsd helps, but not always enough). Either way, how does this create more fiction? I'd imagine that the rear wheels are pushed by the spinning metals here. Meaning almost no friction. As to the real world where the rear wheels would be pulled by the front wheels.
@@ForTheLoveOfCarss there is something called tire drag, for front wheel cars, there’s also no driveshaft so driveshaft loss is non existent. Btw what Cupra model is that? I love this car

Seems like the days when a vw had quite some more power than advertised is over.
Ive seen quite a lot of polo aw gti on the dyno. They are also within +\- 4hp of the claimed 200hp.
It is 247whp on the dyno. So about 272hp to the crank if we consider a 10% drivetrain loss!
Edit: it is 247hp to the crank as a viewer correct me!

@@lazzdk ah I just assumed it because the dyno in the video reads power from the wheels (it exists crankshaft dyno). Raw data should be to the wheels then.. Just my thoughts
@@13louif No, the dyno measures drivetrain loss after the power run, that's why you see the driver put the car into neutral and wait till the dyno slows down by itself. What you see is crank horsepower.

so that all tyres wear out equally
so that no sensors or something get errors
The front rollers are connected to the rear rollers, because the car will most likely go into limp mode if the ECU detects that only the front wheels are moving.

It is on a dyno, so I'd think it's from the wheels.
Its the power of the engine. This dyno calculates the engine power, thats why after accelerating they go in neutral and let it roll.

No, but it is a 4WD Dyno, so the rear axle is just spinning because the front rollers are connected with the back rollers

No its 245 crank horse power and 236 actual wheel horsepower

I’m OCD, but seeing the GTI badge on the trunk directly underneath the VW badge makes me think of how often I would scrape the top of my hand when I’m opening and closing the trunk, knowing the VW symbol is the trunk handle. Bad position for that GTI badge.
