  • In this video we will be going over paddle shifters tutorial. I will be using my Mustang paddle shifters for this paddle shifter tutorial. You will learn how to upshift and downshift using paddle shifters on any car by watching this video.
    Paddle shifters on Automatic has been a blessing to have more fun with the car. As long as you don't compare paddle shifters vs manual, since it will never match that, you can turn your car into having some serious fun! Paddle shifters are available in most cars from Toyota Camry to Chevrolet Camaro these days.
    If your car has an exhaust like mine has Corsa Extreme Catback, then paddle shifters downshifts are going to sound insane! Mustang GT paddle shifters add a lot of fun to my drives.
    Automatic transmissions these days have gotten insanely fast compared to 10-15 years ago and that's excluding DCTs. However, in daily drives they can still be a little boring due to lack of engagement. Paddle shifters add that engagement back to an extent. Paddle shifting like a boss will have you feeling like a race car driver in no time.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m assuming it’s in 1st gear when you take off from a light it should go to 15 mpg or so then you’d need to shift up to second gear. Otherwise it would make a lot of engine noise but you’re hitting redline and not moving past the limiter to more speed

  • @jdm6620
    @jdm6620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well I have a Camaro idk how it works on the mustang but , the car won't let you go into any gear that will cause damage to your transmission or anything like that.

    • @Red5oh

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure if I follow. But lower gears would mean higher rpm and typically used to pass a car or have fun. Higher gears result in lower rpm and helps with fuel economy

  • @Yeesack
    @Yeesack 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So with that mustang if I downshift at 4500 for example would that cause damage and also what gear do you go to when your stopping at a red light

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When coming to a stop light it will drop to gear 1 by itself. As far as downshifting at 4500 should be ok. You may end up too close to redline but you can upshift. If the downshift would cause you to go over redline, the car will deny you the shift. If interested I just uploaded a Mustang specific paddle shifters tutorial video so check that out!

      Downshifting doesn't necessarily make the car go faster, but it puts rpm higher to allow the car accelerate quicker. Engines make power as rpms build up. So downshifting puts rpms higher to allow for more power.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Salerno when to shift is totally dependent on the car. I can tell you to shift at 5k and if you’re driving a diesel you’re shifting at redline each shift, but if you’re driving an S2000 you’ve barely started the powerband. Which is why I mentioned 3k as rule of thumb and adjust as you learn how your car behaves. If you already know how to drive manual then when to shift should be natural. What car do you drive? More than happy to guide you

    • @hatchell18
      @hatchell18 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Red5oh I drive an audi r8. With an actual manual you learn real quick and its easier to learn the proper timing because if you fuck up you stall. So I have no feedback or idea if im doing it right or not because even if im doing it wrong the car won't stall. I hope that makes sense. I hate having the car auto correct or upshift/downshift for you if you fuck up. Makes it harder cause i cant tell if its me or the car doing It correctly. I'm sure once I get used to them it'll be easier hopefully at least. If not im seriously debating getting a manual conversion. I forgot how boring automatics were to drive

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Salerno Yeah there’s no replacement for manual transmission. But since you already know how to drive stick on your 2015 R8 you’d pretty much do the same thing but instead of clutch in and shifting, you will tap the paddle to upshift and downshift. Paddle shifters carry the same logic as manual just replaces clutch and shifter with paddles. So for someone who’s never driven a manual it can be scary to mess up the car which is what the video intends to break down and gives 3k rpm as a guide. Loved the gated shifter in R8 btw!

  • @themightyaswang17

    The rev match during downshifts has nothing to do with the powerband. It's to match the engine speed to the gear you're in, making the car more stable during downshifts. Without rev matching downshifting causes a more aggressive engine brake. Hate it when people release tutorials and are not knowledgeable in the subject.

    • @Red5oh
      @Red5oh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      themightyaswang17 I agree it helps with the cars overall stability as opposed to doing it in a manual without rev matching the car would lunge in. However my point stands when you downshift, rev match or not it’s to gain acceleration (and engine brake). Since we are talking auto with paddle shifters, which rev matches regardless of car, it’s important to know why downshifting and having rpm high matter and what it does for you. Higher rpm does put you in powerband
