  • As great as EVO Japan 2023 was, if you were on Twitter you would not have been able to escape all the Tweets of attendees bringing up some big issues they had with the event. From Punk bringing up the monitor issues, bad console performances, and people being very overly critical of the biggest and smallest things, let's discuss what went wrong and who's fault this really is.

With SF6 and T8 on the horizon, tournaments are only going to get more stacked. Especially for Capcom Cup qualifying events. So many players are going to come out of nowhere for a shot at the million, and so future tournaments are gonna have to step it up and speak with the community about what needs to change for future tournaments.

Well even if it's shit, it's still EVO. The prize money you win from that shit is immaculate. Especially this year's EVO, first place in SF6 is getting a million dollar check.

That monitor idea is gold. They’d move so much damn product that way and hopefully the super serious competitors could get every bit of prep they can.

When it comes to Majors Ex: Evo's and CEO there should be more standards. maybe not same monitors, but at least Specs. Such as standard response time and refresh rates. Either way I think it would be best if a standard was reached for the FGC as a whole.

its a important subject that needs to be addressed. It seems to keep happening. Everyone just wants a fair playing field where no one has excuses. Hopefully there will be no laggy setups ever.

  • @EXPlus512
    @EXPlus512 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Based on what I'm hearing it's always been a lack of competitive standards across the spectrum of the tournament field. Some are fine, some are bad, some are in the middle. Players always swallow their complaints because in reality as a player you feel lucky to have an opportunity to have a chance at meaningful prize money and big sponsored events - and you certainly don't want to jeopardize that. As a spectator you can't perceive the difference so it's hard to garner any support when things are bad. Hoping for some positive changes on the production side of things, keeping in mind that nobody is talking about the time constraints and the techincal challenges from that side. In this case I give the evo japan production team credit for acknowledging the problems and it might be a good idea to have player to production meetings to ensure the highest quality standards at some point. Nobody wants to watch a flawed competition, and players need to be able to feel they can put forth their best effort without technical concerns.

Kinda hard to be on Punk's side, even when he's right, because when confronted pretty kindly by Rick about this same issue at another tournament he turned down the chance to have that conversation. That's why everyone is dumping on him even though they know it's true

He paused the rournament for 45mins. Who can do that? Not even daigo. The tournament organiser had shown enough respect to punk.
He asked to reset the score to 0:0, what the heck is it. If this is permitted players can complain on the dual monitor setting back from day 1 - had he ever thought of these?
      3. He should not only do that after losing a game. Why he didnt complaint when he was winning?
      4. That attitude (blame JAPANESE tournament), this is huge, it's national. Also he is implying that his opponent does not deserve that win
Be a pro, learnt to play in non-optimal environemt. Daigo played with that kind of US type of joystick when he first met Alex valle. He dodnt say a word. Just sit down and play.

    Agree with you
Know about the hdmi splitter issue. Complaint is fine.
However, punk's reaction is definitly inappropriate. He said 'never joint JAPANESE tournament. Its national.
And the tournament lasted ,three days, u cant only start complain when u lost a game.
He asked for resetting to 0:0 after lost one game, this is unfair to momochi.
As a pro u played in non-optimal environment. Sports competitor like soccer player played in wet and muddy stadium.
Finally, blaming your lost like that is also disrespectful for your opponent. He is implying that momochi win because of unfair settings.
Punk is talented, but a pro is not only that, not to mention legendary.
Do you think daigo will ask the organiser to pause for 45mins? Do you think they never play in bad environment? Daigo talked about the us kind of joystick he played on when he first met alex. He just sit down and play, never say a word

I'm frustrated hearing people make legitimate complaints about modern technology when there's always the one nerd in the room saying "my home CRT from 1995 has 0ms latency and I could set it up in my sleep" and unfortunately that dude's right, except for how everything's moved well past that kind of tech for reasons completely unrelated to performance. Now's the time for the technology AND the technicians configuring it to step up their game and deliver a modern consistent universal standard of performance that everyone can trust and repeat. Until then we'll keep getting these situations, and players will wonder why the heck it's worth grinding hours confirming into combos and mastering two-frame links when there's no reason to believe you'll get repeatable results, given wildly different input and display latency across hardware and setups.

You're completely right about twitter not being the place for this kind of discussion. Nobody is going to have a productive conversation when you have thousands of people who don't care and just want to see drama happen yelling in your ears. Anyone that went to evo japan, especially people who paid 2k for the plane tickets alone, went there because they love fighting games and if they have complaints it's only a reflection of how passionate they are. Definitely need a different platform though cause twitter is the gladiator pit.
