Not gonna lie, I'm really glad that you got a kit from pitbull guitars because I've been eyeing their EXA 7 (7 string Explorer style guitar). But because I couldn't find any of the guitar TH-camrs like yourself building or reviewing their kits. Judging from your unboxing it's a high quality kit especially with the tight neck fit. Most likely will be building that EXA 7 kit and upgrading the electronics and hardware (I need my locking tuners haha).
Really pleased you've done this video, I've been considering this kit for quite some time, looking forward to the build video, can't wait to see how it looks and sounds. Cheers dude
Let me explain what Baritone guitar is: You have a typical 6 string guitar and you have a typical 4 string bass. The bass is *TWO* octaves below a typical 6 string guitar. The Baritone guitar is that in-between octave.
I have had about a dozen kits from Adam. The timbre they get is excellent. Necks are always great fits. Service is spot on also. I am waiting on a custom ordered 7 string t style. They are really well priced and very good quality.
I think their prices have stayed more or less the same due to them being in Australia. Most the supply chain issues at the moment are largely from Asia into the US. Australia can probably get their components with fewer hassles.
All my kit builds have been PitBull kits and they are excellent quality. Having said that, I ALWAYS use upgraded hardware, pickups and electronics lol. So they turn out to be quite pricey but so nice!
It would seem that baritones are longer scale length than fender guitars (> 25.5"), but shorter than short basses, and are often tuned down 5 semitones from standard tuning, not one octave like a bass. Something like Pitbull's sunset finish would look great on that with a different color pickguard. Is it a 3 piece body? how rounded are the fret ends? are the fretboard edges rolled? Keda dye works on fretboards and some inlays, but not really on plastic. You can sand black plastic to give it an ebony kind of look, but other than that, paint is about the only option. I paint plastic and hardware all the time. but paint doesn't work so well on hardware that is subject to wear, like saddles, nuts, strap locks, etc. it does work on screws if you're careful installing them. Paint seems to work ok for pickups, pickup covers, pickup rings, knobs, trem arms (if you sand them first), jack and neck plates, and covers and pickguards. Just imagine that kit he has with a natural finish, silver hardware, and evreything possible painted a deep candy apple red - that would be a pretty guitar. Paint can give you options beyond the standard black, silver or gold for hardware, and black, white, cream, etc. for plastic.
Looks like you hit lucky with your kit Dan. I ordered a explorer style guitar (set neck) with a few custom extras & a thunderbird style bass (bolt-on neck) a few years ago. It took over 6 months to get the order and when they arrived there were issues with both. The explorer's neck pocket was so wide the neck didn't touch the sides. The neck pocket of the thunderbird was better, unfortunately the neck rocked when in position. As for the bridge stud holes on both, all were so big the studs fell in. The only positive was the speed of Adam's responses, though his advice to use masking tape for the studs was ignored.
i build a pitbull Tele kit years ago, it was good fun and seemed to be good value (especially if you're in Aus) only issue i had was years later i decided to upgrade the stock parts and ran into a few problems the control cavity wasn't big enough to fit full size pot's (weird) and it was very difficult to find a bridge that would line up without redrilling all the mounting holes, so i ended up just replacing the saddles
Happy New Year Dan and Family. I've been a PitBull customer for years now. I've built FV's JB's and PB's and latest was a pair of EX's. Great service and value and love how Adam is very hands on with his business. The options they offer are great value I always order shielding and bone nuts and the Grover locking tuner upgrade for 6 strings is both good quality and way cheaper than sourcing them yourself. Highly recommend them and cant wait to see you build this one. All the best brother 👍✌😎
i ordered a jazz bass kit from them the other week, it still hasn't arrived but I'm planning on recreating my own version of your jaguar bass from a few years back, I'll make sure to let you know how it turns out!
Looks like the box mine came in the summer of 2020,minus the t shirts 😉🙂. Can’t remember exact model, but along the lines of an ES339 hollow body . Started working on it , decided did not want to ruin, so waited …covid concern delay, sold house, took a guitar building class in August… bought a house and setting up shop area (with out a shop 6 months) unpacking and finishing honey DOOs. Your unboxing gives me renewed incentive to get back to it . I was \pleased with Pitbull … just in the first summer of covid, shipping and all but was notified of shipping updates.
I was gonna grab one of these but they went quick! Then i noticed that they have a 7 string 27" scale hollow body and did a double take. They have some pretty awesome stuff.
artist guitars are another Australian guitar kit seller and probably not a lot of range but good quality control, strat , tele, LP, and also a flame maple carve top LP with mahogany body and neck and solder free kits, very good kits with upgrades available too
Dang, i'll be watching this project for sure! I have wanted a instrument like that since I had to sell my Fender jaguar six string bassitar back in 2009.
Glad you got a good one! I actually ordered a bass from them and the neck pocket had a large chip which meant a tight fit was impossible. They sent me another neck that was supposed to be slightly wider to fill the huge void but it didn’t. I was able to shim it but being just stained and not painted, it looks pretty rough. Rather disappointing but Adam was nice enough and I get not wanting to take it back and send another out when shipping is such an issue.
Hi Dan I have two baritone s one a sunburst squire Tele with an alparts neck and s Danelectro "dead on 67 " In snot green and use Ernie Ball strings made for baritones keep them tuned to C, and B, respectively they sound great and no tuning probs.👍🇬🇧☮️🇫🇴 Keep it up fella.
Great unbox Mr. Guns!. Looks like a great kit. Nice to know there is a company not upping their prices cause they can. I’ll be following the build! Funny that you also have a kit with a Trem Arm that is Way above the body😱. Trying to figure out how to bend it down without snapping it 🤔. You never know how brittle the arm might be.
Im not into Baritone guitars at this time, who knows how I will feel in the future lol. I am more into the 24.75 inch scale, as it hurts my fingers less now days.. Ether way, good luck with this guitar, and I hope it brings you some happiness. :)
You are saying that the baritone string nut to bridge is 27 or 28 inch but baritone is officially 30 to 30.45 inch and the shortscale bass is 30 to 32 inch or 26 inch , I should know I am a builder . And user
It would be really cool to add a super bright humbucker closer to the bridge. I think just tung oil would look really nice on this guitar. I have an Ibanez SRC6 in G1 standard with stringjoy 12-58s and it's great 👍. Check out The Bunn's channel for more info on baritones.
Also, I'll add, Dedman Studios/Dedman that contributed to the user manual instructional pdf for Pitbull is my uncle. He's helped me immensely in beginning my kit building journey!!
Dedman is a bit of a legend around the PB forum. I have several PB kits but my favourite is one of Dedman's custom designs that they did a small production run on.
FYI grain in the deck wood is not for looks - wood has to be cut a curtain way with the grain going parallel to the deck or it’s not gonna sound good, never, no meter what you try to do with it, it will sound good by itself and as soon as you put it inside a band it will be disappearing, you never gonna be able to hear it in the mix, you gonna be chaising non existing sound forever.
My experience with PitBull was dreadful. The after sales service was great but the fit and finish of the original i was sent and the replacement I got was horrible. A waste of over $340. The neck pocket was poorly made which resulted in the neck being sloped across the fretboard. It was a Gretch style hollow body archtop. It ended up in the bin!
Cool stuff Dan'O' I'm Shure you will turn out; a lovely playable "Barry"; as you always do. I just "resurrected" a really beat up 60's univox SG style short scale bass. It came to me literally in pieces. A very fun build. (would not have been possible without your tutelage Thanks Dan) finished now and I like it a lot . Short scale bass is so much easier to acclimate to if you are a guitar player primarily. So, Peace Out and thanks again Dan!
Fender and Gibson can go piss up a rope what with their overpriced guitars. They may be great but there are so many more options nowadays that I have have no reason to spend that kind of money. Well done Dan. Love your channel.
Can highly recommend. I've done a tele style, a mosrite style, a semi-hollow tele style and am currently working on a Jazz style bass kit from Pitbull, all are awesome quality.
Yeah - "That brand that starts with the sixth letter of the alphabet"...lol I get a kick out of how they think if they prevent us from saying or using their brand name it will make a difference in the massive number of clones and copies out there--LOL Ive got an Asian Strat copy and I removed the goofy headstock logo to install one of the humorous no brand waterslide decals, but now that I think about it I think im just gonna put the sixth letter of the alphabet brand on just for spite - LOL
I made one a few years back and have it set up as a Bass VI. Works very well.
Awesome! That’s good to know man!

I got a custom ex 7
I got one of these kits, they let me swap out the body for a different dual humbucker shape, it’s great!
Really pleased you've done this video, I've been considering this kit for quite some time, looking forward to the build video, can't wait to see how it looks and sounds. Cheers dude
I'd love to hear this w/ Fender 24-100 Gauge Strings which are balanced gauges
The Fender 24-100 Gauge Bass VI Strings are super long that they're in fact Long enough to reach from the Tailpiece to the tuners.

If it's tuned down an octave from a guitar E-E, then it's a bass. Same as the Bass VI, Schecter Hellcat, Ibanez SRC6, EB Silhouette etc.
I bought one of there kits and it was alright, did the job. I had little knowledge at the time but I was pleased enough

You can dye plastic with Rit. You need to use warm water and white vinegar mixed in, but it works.

Built their short scale P bass for my daughter. Lots of fun to do and really well done kit.

I've been researching building this "bass-ish" type of guitar for a while now. Think this just helped me decide my next build 😁
That thing is gnarly. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
Dang, i'll be watching this project for sure! I have wanted a instrument like that since I had to sell my Fender jaguar six string bassitar back in 2009.
I have a Jazzmaster style kit I got literally 5 years ago and Im afraid to finish it lol. Its getting done this summer tho lmao....

Great video I've been looking at these kits have you ever just painted the body some color with so so wood grain

Back in stock at Pitbull. I just ordered one!

I got one of their zebra wood p-bass kits. It turned out fantastic with a Seymor Duncan 1/4 pounder.

Ever try an iron oxide stain? I used 000 steel wool in heated cider vinegar. Made a cool grey worn wood look.

I've custom ordered a handful of guitar kits from them, good bang for the buck.
If they had them in stock, I'd be buying one right now
Also, I'll add, Dedman Studios/Dedman that contributed to the user manual instructional pdf for Pitbull is my uncle. He's helped me immensely in beginning my kit building journey!!
Dedman is a bit of a legend around the PB forum.

Very cool, was wondering about the quality of the kit
Perhaps yellowing could be achieved in plastic with UV.
Nissssssssssssssssssce 🍻
Can't wait to see u give it the G&G treatment!🏆
Oh man. Vant wait for that build.
Greetings Dan!!! I just bought this exact guitar BUT i want to cover this gigantic tremolo hole, i want a fixed bridge!!! Any suggestions plz!!!
How about a hybrid of this and the Super Strat/Tele that you did a few weeks ago?
I've used rit dye on wood. It works, but it's a long process.
I was just looking at the pitbull 7 string explorer kit
Definitely have my vote for crackle finish
Can you try the Harley Benton guitar kits from Thomann?
Good idea! I’ll reach out to them
Looking forward to seeing it finished after your modifications and all…
Make it a red rocker! lol…
Cool kit…
I would love to see you make your own or mod this one the have a jazz master pickup, a p90, and broadtron style
With that red pick guard I think you should do something more of a natural light wood color a yellow maybe
I'm sorry I hit the button too soon I meant it's a stain yellow stain

Now that I know want a bass VI is I might have to build one…
If this is a 30 inch scale length, then it is a short scale bass and not a baritone guitar. Baritones are 27 inch scale length.
Pitbull kits are great
Ohhhhh now I gotta see if there is a lefty. (Fingers crossed, please, please, please, please)
I just wish it wasn’t already sold out!
That looks great
Wish they offered this lefty.
Look up Ariel Posen’s “baritone”
Set up. 17-64 strings on a standard guitar tuned down to B might be worth exploring.
They take custom orders, I’m sure they’ll make a lefty version for you!

Trademark issues. Adam from pit bull requested I don’t say it
