      I just got my very 1st Squire Bass VI (I’ve been playing bass for 42 years, and have been on Christian worship teams for most of 37 years), have you ever installed a “Fender Mute” plate? I have 3 “Bennerman’ signature models (2 guitars and 1 bass), and am thinking about building a Bass VI similar to what you’ve built here, wow, what a great job you’ve done on this!

    The 4 pickups remind me a lot of the weird and funky 60s and 70s budget guitars, and the fact that it's an extended range guitar adds to that "what am i looking at" vibe in a really cool way. The sounds are really cool, but i'm mostly interested in that Piezo bridge. I might be picking one up for my "Not an ES 335"

    Dan, you keep impressing me with every guitar/bass you build. You keep giving me ideas for how I can make my guitar arsenal more versatile, especially the wiring on this one. I cant wait to see what you have brewing next.

    Great video, Dan!! As to the optional nut, bone is my weapon of choice! It's natural, resilient, and transmits the the sound from string to wood flawlessly. My 2nd choice is usually Graphtec, and I have an awesome Les Paul that came in a kit with the Graphtec, so I stayed with it. I have another LP that came with plastic and it now has bone. Great stuff!! Again, great video and good work!! I'm in SE AZ. Maybe someday we could meet.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree on the bone nut arguement. Bone sounds the best, but I like graphtech for tuning stability on guitars with tremolos. The graphtech tone is next best. I use bone nuts on my custom line of basses.

    Impressive wiring man! Instead of drilling the tuners, I've heard you can bend the string and then unravel one of the outer winds to lighten the gauge and then it should fit through the tuner. I haven't had to do it yet but just something I picked up from The Bunn.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard of that too, but if you break a string in a gig, who wants to be panicking fiddling with a string to modify it and install it on the spot? Drilling it out seems like the right choice so one can change strings without extra thought involved

  • @jasonarmstrong5750
    @jasonarmstrong5750 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love the shape of the body but never been big on the bass VI (I’m a purist when it comes to bass), but the great thing about these things is you can easily convert it to a standard six string with just a simple neck swap.

    that came out really gorgeous. I hope that the person that buys it enjoys the heck out of it. My only "boo" is the battery compartment lol. I do not like those screw on covers, but I get your reasoning for doing it at the time. If I was said owner I would buy high-capacity rechargeable lithium ion 9Vs to maximize time between changing batteries to minimize use on the wood threads.
    It sounds absolutely beautiful!

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I agree with you on the battery compartment. Wish I had a plastic battery tray to install, but I didn’t plan for it, I was hoping it would all fit neatly under the pickguard.

    I'm glad the battery didn't fit. Batter should never be under the pickguard. Had that problem when an inexperienced guitar center tech installed my sustainiac (next time ill just do it)... batter changes should always be outside, or else you'd have to take the pickguard off everytime... and eventually the screw holes would strip.

    Congrats on taking a decent kit and turning it into something quite special. This looks like a great instrument. There is only one thing I would say that this guitar could really do with and that is a bass cut switch which is in the Fender bass 6 design. I was hearing the boomyness which points to the lack of it at the end of the video. The fabric finishing technique you have come up with looks amazing although the jury is out on how it will handle day to day wear and tear.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The active preamp has a bass boost/cut, I just had it boosted because I wanted it to be bassy for the demo. Also, the fabric is sealed in epoxy resin, then coated with shellac and tru oil. Can’t imagine it would wear out even a little. Heck I sanded it with 320 grit sandpaper and it took it like a champ.

    Slight word of warning about Dragonfire Pickups. They are great for the price, but the compony is kinda iffy on their business ethic.
    I know a youtuber who recived a faulty set and politely asked to return them. While he did get his money back, he was subsuquently banned from purchasing from them again. Refusing to do business with someone because they rightfully asked to return a faulty product is a bit of a red flag in my eyes.
