    WOWOWOWOW!!!! What a great video!! Back when I worked for a small cruiseship company that did tours and cruises up in AK, I booked plenty of people on AK Air to SE AK. One woman specifically asked me to book her on the milk run after her cruise. Me, who was committed to serving the customer, did exactly that. She wanted to see the AK scenery. I booked her in a seat where she would have the best views.
    I see that the weather didn't fully cooperate with you here. The latter part of June is often cloudy, overcast and showery. This year even more so because of the 3-year La Nina, which has tightened its grip in the South Pacific even more so now. May and early June are good times to go to AK because you'll have more sunny days and fewer tourists.
    Looks like you were able to see the top of Mt. Logan in Kluane National Park in SW Yukon. This is Canada's highest peak at over 19,000 feet. It's more than just a mountain. It's a massif, which is like a super-mountain with several peaks forming a ring. Mt. Vinson down on The Ice (Antarctica) is like this too. Mt. Vinson is over 16,000 feet, making it higher than anything in Colorado.
    Good views of Whidbey Island coming down to SEA. Good view of Peen Cove, famous for its mussels. Good view of Ft Casey and Ft Ebey Parks. I've walked along the beach from Keystone up to Pt,. Partridge, about 6 miles on a rocky wilderness beach.... spectacular views of the Strait, the San Juans, and Vancouver Island.
    Wonderful view of the Hood Canal Bridge and Foulweather Bluff. The Hood Canal Bridge is a floating bridge that goes over tidal water so they had design it to go up and down with the tides. I've been across that bridge sooooooooooo many times, I lost count a long time ago.
    Good views of Marrowstone and Indian Islands. Good view of Hansville and Point No Point.
    Good view of Bellevue and Medina. Whoa! There's Bill Gates' house!! I've known people who've been to it. They said it was mind-boggling and the security was air-tight.
    Anyhow, another fine, super-awesome video.

    Really interesting. We took an Alaskan cruise in the summer so I’m familiar with some of the stops. Curious what the date was as I saw a couple cruise ships docked in Ketchikan. Mid to late September is usually the end of the cruise season.

    Just wondering...was the milk run ever flown by 727's or MD-80's back in the 80's or 90's?? Was there a milk run back then....

    • @bruceknight21943
      @bruceknight21943 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the B732’s did the milk run prior to the NG’s. They had a configuration where the main deck cargo was immediately behind the pilots, and the passengers were behind the cargo. Since the flight attendants couldn’t get to the pilots (because of the main deck cargo in between), a flight attendant would jumpseat in the cockpit with the pilots- more for having an additional resource to the pilots rather than serving coffee, etc.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm actually not sure. I've tried to find info on this, but as far as I can find the 737-200 is the farthest back I can confirm. As Bruce mentioned, the 737-200 and then the 737-400 after it were both operated in a combination configuration. 50/50 pax/cargo. Now, I actually have a model of an Alaska 717-100 in the similar cargo/pas configuration, which might suggest it was used for similar purposes at one point, but I've found no evidence to actually back that up.
      As for the timing of the Milk Run. They certainly operated before the 737-200, but in what capacity I'm not sure. They trace their routes back all the way to the 1930's.

    Thanks, I enjoy watching your videos. Do you by any chance know one or two crews make such long flights? Such as AS 66 or AS 61?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad you enjoy them my fiend. I’ve seen crews often swap at Juneau which is the midpoint of every milk run. But often the first set has an additional flight before the milk run. For example, on a recent milk run, the crew flew in from Deadhorse to Anchorage, then flew the first leg of the milk run from anchorage to Juno. We are a new crew took over and flew the flight from Juneau to Petersburg Wrangell Ketchikan and Seattle.

      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      Shep Aviation was one of my Flagship First Patreon supporters, and he was for a long time. I greatly appreciate the support he was able to give. One of his perks was he got his channel listed in my descriptions. He decided he wasn't able to be a Patreon supporter any longer, which is fine. I greatly appreciate the support I get at any level from everyone. And people's situations change. So that's why it's not listed now.

    Great fly! So these 7 stops cost more than $1000?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I don't remember exactly what I paid for the fights, but it wasn't $1,000. Now, the trip as a whole. For me to get to Alaska, takes these flights, get home, hotels, cars, etc. was over $1,000. Well over, but the actual Milk Run wasn't.

    What is a milk run?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Milk Run, is the nickname this series of flights has gotten over the years. These flights have existed in Alaska since the 1930's, and still today, they are vital lifelines to the communities they serve. Many of the stops you see on this route are not accessible by road, so everything these communities need, including milk, has historically been brought in on these flights. Hence the name, Milk Run.

    If the Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines deal does not work out...Southwest should buy Alaska. Keep it all Boeing!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, the only real reason I don't see the AS/HA merger working is if the DOJ blocks it like they did the NK/JB merger. And if they block AS/HA then they'd definitely block WN/AS as that would create an even bigger airline. I think it's HA/AS or nothing happens. At least not until the political climate swings back the other way in the US. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Why is this flight is called milk run ?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These flights, "these" being any Alaska Airlines flight with two digits staring with a 6. Are fights that have been in operation for many many years. They can trace their routes back all the way to the 1930's. The cities we fly to on this journey aren't connected to the rest of the world by roads. They're only accessible via air and sea. These flights are vital daily links to the rest of the world for these communities. A lot of what these communities need/use arrive on these flights. Medicine, food, mail, and.... milk. They've been called Milk Runs now for many years as people would wait for these flights to arrive to get needed supplies, including milk.
