The Cheap Techwear Cargos EVERYONE Sells...Why?

  • These cheap techwear cargo pants seem to be sold on every drop-shipper or 'techwear retailer' out there at a huge range of prices up to around $80. I managed to get them pretty cheaply so time to investigate exactly what to expect.
    Aelfric Eden Amazon store: amzn.to/3vEbPQe
As in the video I wouldn't recommend these personally but at least the above seems to be one of the cheaper places to currently buy these.
This video is a follow-up to 'I Bought Fake $12 Cargos So You Don't Have To': • I Bought $12 Fake Tech...

I really want you to do a full video on making "diy techwear" now. Like how to build a techwear wardrobe from items that are not necessarily "Techwear branded". It's something I've been doing for a while and I really think others could get value from it.

They look like they're really uncomfortable. The fat cuff only really works if you have knee articulation so the cuff stays in place when moving. Sidenote but Guerrilla Group pants are still some of the most aesthetically pleasing pants in the techwear world in my opinion.

The straps on cargo pants started between WWI and WWII and were on all US, some UK etc.. military issued cargo pants, and as you rightly said they were used to hold your gear from rattling around your pocket, but interestingly the biggest use case was to keep your gear quiet as you walked about, so your MREs and pocket knife wouldn't be like a bell around a cow's neck and alert the enemy.
I stole my first pair of cargo pants from my Step Dad's army trunk, I had two pair both OD (olive drab), one I cut into baggy drop crop cargo shorts, and the other just as super baggy cargo pants... this was before cargo pants/shorts were even a thing outside the military. I got a lot of looks and some fans (one would start a streetwear label...) and fast forward to 2021, cargos came into fashion in the 90s and 00s and then mainstream dropped them, this weekend I went out to a popular area for night life (as restrictions are eased here in LA) and OMG every other person had some form of cargo pant on, men, women, children, dogs (ok not dogs)... none were really techwear per se... and there I was thinking I was special in my Guerilla Group cargos. 🤷‍♂️😂

Paratroopers were the ones who most used them: you don't want your stuff bouncing in the pockets while falling from a plane.
They don't make much sense outside that use, or maybe combat divers, for the same reason.

Heyo! I've been finally looking into getting into techwear and I bought these as a first pair (before I watched this video) and I agree with a lot of your points. THANKFULLY I didn't pay outrageous amounts for it, and it sort of gave me an idea for what the lower end of "techwear" might be like. I don't regret buying these at all, and am sorta happy they were my first because as I see it? It can only really go up from here! I'm saving up and looking into getting the Reindee Lusion 042 Steven Cargos because I've heard those are great starter cargos for techwear.
Thank you so much for the content, it really helps me personally learn about new brands, different price points and what really makes something 'techwear'. Keep up the good content!

I doubt that these are the "legit" ones shown in every picture, here's why:
    1. The Photos you, and every resellers uses are done by Enshadower, a taiwanese collective, which is emphasized by the same style of photography and the same backgrounds they use for all their other products.
2.The material is definetly different, catstacc ones look alot darker, have a little less shine and don't keep any wrinkles (like at 1:29, right above the big pockets are creases, that i cant replicate on my pair). It also looks like the material overall is thinner, which is hard to jugde, but the ones i own are really thick, maybe 3-4 times as thick as a normal pair of jeans.
3.The taper seems to be different, they come off as alot wider than mine.
4.The Branding on the big pocket should also say CATSTACC, not Alfric eden.
4.The holes for the "belt"-string are not protected against tear, the ones from catstacc have a rubber coating all around the hole.
5.The price... 30$ is way too low for the "original", since enshadower sold it originally for about 80$ and dropped it in some sales to about 60$, but i have never seen them at a lower price than that. I would guess a limiting factor for those ones to be known as "originals" was the process of ordering back then, where you had to send the founder a dm via instagram or whatsapp, to confirm your order and figure international shipping out, which by the way is no more nowadays, but was a fun experience.
Alfric eden are known as a Taobao reseller, but as I stated in a different video from you, the enshadower collective seems to be something completely different. Even i was surprised finding out about the taiwanese fashion scene and how alot of indipendent and upcoming designers try something different with their clothing brands.
They may started out in a way where they tried to emulate more global trends, but i think nowadays they have become a brand of their own with alot of interesting styles and new ideas that designers here haven't thought of.

so, i bought these about a year ago as my first and currently only "techwear" item, I got them off amazon for about 60€ (bummer), I was simply uneducated and didn't really look much deeper than the pictures in the front. I checked a lot of drop shops for techwear and saw these reoccurring often enough to convince me to buy em, I decided for amazon, cause I knew I could trust them. There are still about 5-10 different versions of the exact same product, each at different prices, I thought for 60€, it cant possibly be a total scam, which it technically wasn't - still, I could have gotten them for half the price. In the end the product I got is exactly what you've got in your hands, just with a different brand on it. I still like wearing them, cause I'm not too focused on functional gear, I mostly like the style for its asteatics. Now I started to look for some real techwear stuff, I don't know if I will be buying the same type of product. This time maybe do some research into better options...

When talking performance, if you’d wear them when going to the gun range I can see them maybe wearing out quicker than pants from a company that sells cargos for our doors purposes and such but over all these paints are okay to be honest. I grabbed these pants last year from there Amazon store just because I was curious as to HOW cheap they were after watching this and to be honest these paints are pretty good and more durable than I expected. If you want something you can wear and hold stuff easily I recommend them, especially if you are short or average height. I’m 5,5 and I got the medium size and they fit well I can move around in every way without feeling constricted.

    • @michelauspimmelberger
      @michelauspimmelberger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

alot of indonesian and especially taiwanese brands like orbit gear, kin supply, enshadower, pupil travel, reindee lusion, etc. etc. do exactly that. They wont use dryskin, etaproof and so on, because it would drive the price up too much, but you get techwear that still has a focus on good quality and funcionality, but no high end fabrics. The price depends on the piece, but most pants come in at 40-90$ and jacket sets you back about 150$. It is still alot more than any of that taobao dropshit, but qualitywise its absolutely on par with the price.

to me personally anything that does not fulfill a technical function is a waste of material.
its sort of why i tend to be mega impressed by larping, while i am very little impressed by cosplay (outside of the actual ability to recreate a fantsay character in detail in real life, damn great craftsmanship). i just hate the idea of an adeptus astartes getting stabbed because his armor was made out of foam, wouldnt happen to you with a medieval larper. those guys wear actual armor and poke at each other with actual swords.
its the same for me with fake pockets and fake straps. sure it might look great, but if i cannot put anything inside a pocket, i dont want it

I personally sometimes buy techwear on taobao
Well it’s easy for me because I live in HK and study in UK
I mainly buy techwear in taobao because of its price. Sometimes it’s really cheap.
But one thing you need to know when u buy things in taobao (not only clothes) is to choose a good brand.
Buying stuff in taobao is not bad if you know what u doing like I buy a lot of stuff in taobao sometimes cheap sometimes expensive but it really comes to experience. Ofc there are bad stuff so does on any market I don’t think we should label everything taobao is bad. Like pupil travel for example . And also I got this GXG pants for like 12 quid. It isn’t full techwear but sort of a middle ground it got 2 pocket on right and 3 on left on the ankle and 2 on the back .
At first I thought the ankle pocket is for aesthetics but there is a buckle to close the pocket which is really helpful. I often put my AirPod there when I am playing basketball just to secure it.

So basically, they're cosplay quality. They look to be only a mild step above that cheap Amazon retailer cosplay material that allows absolutely zero give when actually worn on the body. It's quite literally worse than H&M pants, so defeats the purpose of what techwear is actually meant to be.
