    I appreciate you mentioning the second-hand market in this vid. Most of my wardrobe is second-hand since the retail prices of tech items can be waaay out of my price range. I've been doing this for years and I've had no real issue doing it, as long as you're relatively savvy about it

    I appreciate the recommendation for DIY. For a lot of aesthetic styles, there's always this fear that you HAVE to buy the big brands or shell out a bunch of money or else it's not legitimate, when the styles usually came about through people piecing different things together or making little DIY modifications to pre-existing items until they coalesced into something that you could call an aesthetic. DIY is also great for extending the shelf life of the things you buy, both for freshening up a look and for the actual longevity of the item.

    So I am getting into Techwear through watching videos on your channel, but it just so happens I already own a lot of Gore-Tex clothing with lots of zips/belts/pockets because I ride motorcycles and I mostly prefer textiles for their waterproof performance. Is there a lot of overlap between techwear and riding gear and can you recommend any techwear gear for riders?

  • @misanthraaa

    For the straps during DIY: To seal the edges, carefully burn them with a lighter. They're synthetic and will melt (quite a lot if you're not careful) when near the flame. Just be careful when you do, as it can drip quite easily (and this is not the kind of drip you want to wear!) and give you some nasty burns. Keep the lighter as far away as possible while still getting the effect. Also keep in mind that if the opening of a metal thingamabob (it's 2am on a saturday, cut me some slack lol) is just wide enough to fit the ribbony stuff, this will widen the edge ever so slightly and possibly not fit through so you might want to do that after despite the risk of fraying it a little.

    The one thing that's always made me wary about techwear is the washing. I've bought a few things from Uniden in the past, some Uniqlo stuff, and even some Enshadower gear. I'm afraid to toss them in the washer so I've mainly been hand washing, but any tips would be very appreciated!

    I absolutely agree that you talk about diy. I made myself a belt out of exactly the webbing and cobra clips. Sewed 2 black ponchos moth a high collar, out of the Theater curtain fabric and made 2 messenger bags. Costs about 150 euros and about 20-30 hours of work. 😁✌️

    +1 on the shemaghs, I bought a pack of 3 off Amazon (black, black/white and white/black) for a pittance and they have quickly become an autumn staple for going outside, they keep my neck just warm enough and double as a 3-layer bandana mask if you need one in a pinch. As for belts, I like the fidlock etc clasps, but one thing I do dig that I've only seen rarely is the pull-tab torsion buckle on Heron Preston belts - END currently have a couple on sale (but if you're not averse to KOs AliX have good quality versions for next-to-nothing)

    • @NMN
      @NMN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raksh9 oh yeah I should have mentioned the Grip6 folks here as well; I have a flat gunmetal buckle and a hex/honeycomb cut buckle / belt in black from them; I was surprised the torsion-style grip works as well as it does, they're great low-profile options if you're not feeling a big chunky buckle some days

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NMN I was skeptical at first about the Grip6 buckle, it didn't seem like it would work, to be honest. Then someone gave me one as a gift and it was really surprising. I can't go back to normal belts unless it's a specific look I want. I'm looking at getting the honeycomb buckle some time. Have a great weekend.

    I do find that Molle is usually a miss with fashion brands. Usually out of spec (usually not stiff, incorrect spacing, or weak stitching). Milsurp is money when it comes to Molle fit, even more when you go into the high end brands like LBT or Crye.
    As a plus, dyeing and tailoring service and battle dress uniforms can make really unique colorways, or custom fits for the adventurous.

    Been rocking a neck gaiter ever since 2019, and they've helped a lot in preventing me from getting sunburnt around my neck, as well as serving as a nice set against a handful of particles (not including COVID-19 ofc but just random dust or whatever stuff that'll get on your face like sand, dust, gravel, etc.) whenever I'm traveling from one place or another which can be annoying, as well as pairing it with sunglasses.
    Since I've stepped up in getting more higher quality ones with sewn seams, they're more durable than the ones that most people would cheap out on that I wouldn't recommend. As for belts, I've gone from leather belts to a nylon belt with a cobra buckle, which improved my quality of life due to its quick release functionality and just unlimited adjustability.
    I'd definitely open myself up to some more accessories, been looking at some pouches that I could attach not only to my belt (one pouch that'll house either my phone and my pen for drawing and some goodies), but having another one for my bag.

    Antwon hitting again. I have a mil-surp shemagh and netscarf (both black) that I picked up for next to nothing on Amazon, great little touches to round a fit. Recommend washing gentle in cold before wearing, these kinds of military gear are died and sent, so they smell and feel ghastly when you first get them, but one nice wash and they become super soft.

Her review is 30 min long so the TLDR: face gasket doesnt create an airtight seal, the "N95" filters are small and not certified, ther's no check valve on exhaust, they used the wrong type of fans (axial instead of centrifugal) that are useless in a facemask.

    Sowing addict here. Would love some diy for 2 reasons:
    1 - inspiration (basically why I follow you)
    2 - motivating ppl to try making things themselves. Theres no need to start with a fancy jacket. There are a lot of easy projects around. All needed is a needle, some yarn & a little patience.
    Making something is also very rewarding. Fiddling with the current project for a bit after a tough day will always settle my mind. And in the end I have a result I cant deny.
