Here's my Militracks 2019 "Promo" video! Had so much fun at the event while meeting so many new people and so can't wait for next year! Thank you so much for watching!
@Ulf Knudsen Oh hello! The Panther you saw me on belongs to the French Musée des Blindés (Saumur), there's a lot of armour being transported between museums these days, makes for great advertisement! :3
Check this out, around 7:10 you can hear me whistle this while walking out of the Museum after having looked for you... th-cam.com/video/rIXW9TmWNOI/w-d-xo.html
My father served in a Tank Destroyer Battalion that landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He didnt talk too much about it until age 80. His name is memorialized there somewhere, even though he made it home.
I went to Overloon in the early 1980s and then nearly all the exhibits were out in the woods with only a small visitors centre. Still a great place then as it is now.
They are (quite rightly) treating these old tanks VERY gently. NO replacement engines, transmissions or gearboxes available, remember! (Yes, even the Renault FT can go faster than what you’re seeing here.)
I remember going to this museum around 2007 / 2009. It was on a Sunday (it was cool --there was no one sitting out at the time). And as the nice lady (Ms. Rita) was saying, I could see there was so much more there in the video than I saw as I walked around. It was my first visit to any war museum and my firsthand [not TV this time] encounter with a single person 'pill-box'.... I could see that from the build, the only way the person inside was going to be affected by anything coming from the outside was with a direct hit -- and from a very large shell. And there was a little boy speaking (he was a talker) and we locked eyes and then he started speaking to me. Of course, I knew no Dutch and all could do was smile. And I could not help that he 'knew' that... Yes, little things like that did contribute to my walk around the grounds. Yes, seeing the vehicles actually move was fascinating. to Ms. Rita -- An excellent promo' for the museum. Very glad to see how much the museum has grown. Look like good crowds for 2019. Wishing much success in the future. It was educational (and even emotional) seeing the pictures and press clippings of the Netherlands' Queen at the time and how it appeared the people were handling the occupation. I regret that I only had the one day. And was coming from Einhoven -- via a taxi (I was amazed to be brought and taken back by taxi [Which in the USA, I might still be waiting for a taxi!).
I went there with my stepson a couple of years ago (WoT was'nt even 2yo) when he started to play WoT with me. So he could see the tanks in real life and think about the horrors real combat/war actually is (compared to a computer game) ... It was a eye-opener for him and he really learned a lot in this museum. Good place to visit.
watched this because im a bit of a history geek, enjoyed seeing and hearing the dutch as well (parents come from Brabant as well). So thanks for this video, from immigrant dutch mechanic history geek. this was right up my alley, thanks.
wow. I would be in the engine room stoking the boilers. or in the tank, the gunner/loader. team work counts. getting on with each other. it's a tight crew. great to see so much and how big it has all become. engineering on a grand scale and mostly hand made craftsmanship rare these days with auto craft shops. thanks for sharing. xJes
I used to visit this museum as a kid back in the 70s! It's sure grown a lot since then. I don't think they had any running vehicles, just static ones parked randomly in the woods. I remember I loved the Sherman flail, and I think there was a bridgelayer. Glad to see it's all grown up.
They restored the bridge layer, one of the more unique vehicles they have. The flail is also still there (as it was part of the battle at Overloon). By the way I remembered the static display in the woods as we went there quite a few times as a kid. Still visiting the museum on a regular basis.
Crazy world! A few decades ago we Germans were still called "Moffe" by the Dutch. And in 2019 whole groups of peoples pilgrimage to a Dutch place to watch German tanks roll.
@@Nightdare No problem Nightdare, we know that. And let's be honest, we also call you "Käsköppe". And since there are navigation devices, the good old game to missleading Germans makes no more fun. By the way, in Russia you can pick up your bike in Smolensk. The scrap part has made it up there. The Dutch SS volunteer of the 23rd SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Nederland" (niederländische Nr. 1) sends many thanks for the bike.
Not so! We have what we have today partly because of these and in instances like the Vegas shooting not so long ago, some armoured vehicles were driven towards the mass shooting to help the police and make people safe! :)
@@RitaGamer A lot of military developments have had beneficial applications. A lot of our medical advancements have come from the military and the GPS everyone uses nowadays came from them, but the military does not build equipment to aid first responders, they use them to destroy enemy equipment and troops.
