There was no allied tank aces , 1 SS panzer division = 2 allied armored division...
They fought the wrong ennemy...Patton was right..!
:-) Yes, if you don't count the heavvy losses due to aerial attack the Panther have an impressive ratio against alled tanks, expecially if can aim and knock out at far distance, and not launched relentessy in attack without recognition...
Or abandoned due to lack of fuel, mines, etc

I'm surprised its in such a bad condition inside.. I get some of the things inside cant be tip top sparkling since its a running tank, but the entire breach of the gun is rusted and much of the interior clearly needs to be stripped and repainted as there is rust under the paint. I'ts not like there are 100's of panters around any more, so rare historical vehicles dosnt get ruined because of bad maintenance. Other then that is a pretty cool to see it from the inside.
Well stated. But I can well imagine it would be very expensive and time consuming to disassemble and strip the big cat down for a decent restoration. However she is a beauty. Hope she stays running for a long time so many people can appreciate a piece of history.
Beautiful tank and great commentary. I am not 100% sure but I think what he was trying to tell you is that thing over your head you can open it up and put a smoke grenade in it and you pull that pin back and release it to shoot the smoke grenade
This was made very difficult to understand because he said it right after explaining the smoke ventilation system forinside the tank after the main Armament is shot.

I worked with a guy who was a Panther tank gunner in WWII. He had some very interesting stories and information about different tanks used in WWII, both German and allied. He got taken out in France in the winter of 1944. He thinks it was rockets from a plane. He got badly burned and was saved by the American army hospital. He was very lucky.
He is indeed! Many panzer tank crews didn't survive the retaking of France in June 1944. I read somewhere only 25% survive to get back to German lines

I have been to the Tank museum in Saumur [ www.museedesbindes.fr] and it is absolutely fascinating. They have a lot of exhibits. When I was there a tank had just come out of their workshop and they were test driving it around the car park!

As there is an accelerator/throttle pedal and a brake pedal (for slowing down the tank), so was the clutch automatic? using a syncromesh 'crash' style of gearbox, by operating the gear lever?
..similar or akin to the 'clutchless' or 'auto-clutch' gearshift on a Honda C50 or C90 etc by using the footpedal.

Thanks dear! I hadn't realized Panthers were so spacious inside. Now I'm wondering if The Chieftain has done an Inside the Hatch vid. Nice nod to his "Oh bugger. The tanks on fire" line. lol
They removed the recoil shields. This is why it is so spacious.
A lot of equipment and things are missing (no ammunition, food, water, replacement optics, individual weapons, cushions...) but yes it is far more spacious than a M4 or a T34 as far I can tell from my experience.

I liked the shape of Panzer III, Königstiger has a balanced shape too. Panther to me looks very strange. But Jagpanther is good looking.
Is this a panther Asuf A? Also never knew that you fire the main gun with a foot press of a button. Very interesting. I am building a model of this tank with interior and there appears to be a bracket that goes over this button to cover it, I assume this is when not in battle to avoid accidental pressing.

Does anyone know how many running Panther tanks exist? Well, he answered that question!
I guess the Panthers didn't have the same transmissions that Tigers did? I remember reading that Tigers had advanced steering mechanisms and used an automotive style steering wheel. Because the Panthers used the same engine, I had assumed the transmission was carried over as well.
No the Panther had a different transmission in fact the AK 7 200 from ZF company
still sad that i didn't get to get in the panther.

My relative was a Sturmbannfuhrer in the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen, so yes the Panther was involved.

Panther tank steering was by a steering wheel. The lever was auxiliary. So it seems, the „Bretagne restistánce Panther“ is not really historically accurate?
Anyway, what did the captain say? „In the Panther, you find all the elements of a present day tank“ - in other words, it was at its time, an ultra-high tech superior vehicle.
This for all the Panther bashing freaks. Panzerkampfwagen V was the best tank of WW 2
If you keep the cupola open and maintain the Tank properly and not going high speed on hard cross terrain, then it's a good Tank.

Panther tank never har steering wheel. They used different steering than the tiger.
