I am so proud of both of you for recognizing THE SEEKERS, and Judith Durham in particular. Unfortunately, Judith passed away in the summer of 2022. The Seekers were extremely popular in the 1960s. The studio you saw in the video was ABBEY ROAD. The same studio where the Beatles recorded in England. The song I’ll NEVER find another You,” outsold The Beatles when it first came out.
Years ago while touring she was in a head on collision in a car, she suffered massive injuries, took 4 years of care and rehab to get get back to normal she's inspiring , I know her personally lovely women friendly to all caring kind.
Wow...incredible story and for sure an incredible woman. What a voice she had. Such an inspiring story and woman. I did not know to much background to the The Seekers and in particular Judith Durham. Even with the tragedy and misfortune that she endured, i feel you can see her incredibel spirit and soul in the sound of her voice and face. Thank you for sharing that.
This was after Judith had been retired from singing to care for her very ill husband for many years, after his death she returned to the group, you should check out when she was younger, she has the voice of an angel!
My husband and I went to a couple of the Seekers anniversary tours, held in Sydney’s iconic Opera House, the concerts were packed. They sang the roof off and the applause rang out seemingly forever! If heaven visited earth … that’s where it happened! Judith Durham and The Seekers - timeless, matchless, food for the heart and soul!
So pleased you loved that! The Seekers have been around since the early 60s and were our first big international success (the UK especially loved them). National treasures here in Australia, and Judith's voice has always been fabulous. They've had a tonne of great songs - like this one, Georgie Girl, The Carnival is Over, I am Australian, World of Our Own, Calling Me Home, Shores of Avalon, etc. Oh, another Aussie female voice you should check out is Marcia Hines (she was born in the US but she moved here at the beginning of the 70s and stayed, and has been ours ever since) - she's had some great hits like: You, Shining, I Just Don't Know What to do With Myself, I Don't Know How to Love Him, Music is My Life, Your Love Still Brings Me to My Knees, etc.
My Mum was a big fan of The Seekers, so we played their song ‘World of our Own’ at her funeral. She died 24 years after Dad and was going to be with him. I do have a bit of a soft spot for The Seekers. Judith Durham has an amazing voice.
@@MerchantOfAlba you should hear her sing danny boy or all my trials in my opinion in the top 5 female singers of all time ps the seekers all over the world and when the stars begin to fall simply incredible
I grew up with this band at one time they became the most well known band in the world. Judith leed singer had a voice of an angel, despite the fact she had lung problems still enjoyed today this band always stirs imprison they had old world charm. Rest in peace my dear judith
I grew up with this music in the 60’s. I appreciate it more now than ever as Judith Durham just recently past away. The voice of an angel. Such dignity and grace. A total professional. I watch with tears in my eyes now. Thx for the memories beautiful Judith. RIP
“Very popular” ?? Michael, that’s a massive understatement! They were absolutely huge in Australia and almost as big in the UK !! One of their final live concerts at the Myer Music Bowl (in 1968 or 1969) had a live audience of nearly 1/4 of a million people!!
They were huge in Australia, UK and they even cracked the American market with George Girl, their breakout song in the USA, Carnival is over and Mornington Ride. My personal favourites are Carnival is over and We are Australian. Please react to these two songs.
Now you’ve seen this you should look for the 1960’s studio version they recorded when they moved to London...and see what they looked like way back then...they are a national treasure!
Nice to hear some real music!...Huge in the UK and USA in the 60's. Wrote and sang some fabulous tunes..."The carnival is over", "Georgie girl" etc.. thanks for showing this!
The Seekers span the generations. Georgie Girl, Colours of my life, Keep a dream in your pocket, I am Australian, and many more. Over the decades The Seekers have never disappointed. Keep up the great work. You guys are so refreshing!!
The seekers were huge in Australia in the 60s and 70s and had plenty of hits. The carnival is over th-cam.com/video/z4ZipKdI1sY/w-d-xo.html Morningtown Ride th-cam.com/video/M-RkC6MYT2E/w-d-xo.html and Georgy Girl th-cam.com/video/wsIbfYEizLk/w-d-xo.html are some you might also enjoy. 👌
They were one of the very best groups from the Folk music from the 60's era..thier music should still be an inspiration to us today..this music was true and authentic..it has something for everyone..
Edith Durham is a a class act on stage visually and vocally. She is still beautifull but younger she was stunning. Glad you chose this song. It made my day hearing this again.
Sadly Judith Durham died just a few days ago... a unique talent. The Seekers have so many beautiful, heartfelt songs ...her voice when she was younger was sublime.
In the video from the 60's Judith Durham nearly Drowned Her Male Band Members. Apparently they once Outsold The Beatles. "Georgy Girl" was a Big Hit Internationally. "Morningtown Ride" and "The Carnival Is Over" is also worth checking out. The also did an Incredible cover of The Byrds "Turn, Turn, Turn". As I mentioned in a comment from Your Reaction to John Farnham's "You're The Voice" which is one of Our Unofficial National Anthems. In the early 90's They Reformed and had a New Hit with "I Am Australian" which you don't need to be an Aussie to Love. Many Aussies want it to become Our Official National Anthem. As far as I'm concerned You're Warm Friendly People like the majority of Aussies. So You two deserve to be Adopted as Honorary Australians. React to The Seekers "I Am Australian" like a couple of American Reactors have and You'll realise what an Honour that is.
I love this and The Seekers . It was great to watch this after watching them sing the same song in a video many years before while they were recording at the Abbey Road studio in London .
I’m so glad you enjoyed hearing them!! You are right! They ARE heartwarming!! So much from the purely “folk” era like this was. Folk was definitely fading when the came along in the swinging 60s, but there were still some great bands like them. The style lends itself to opening one’s heart because it is so relaxing. As such, folk can do sooo much from ballads (love gained or lost), to romance, to protest, to comedy. A FINE evening of entertainment!!
I loved this Australian folk band back in the 1960s but sadly they were with us for barely four years before they were gone. They had signed on to perform on a cruise ship in 1964 with the hope of making it big in the UK once the ship docked there. And make it big they certainly did with memorable hits coming in quick succession. Then in 1968 it was all over and we wouldn't see them performing together again until more than twenty years later when they began and had a second life together, with several international tours until this farewell in 2013.
In 1968 The Seekers came to our primary school and sung several songs for us. The most memorable songs for us little kids at the time being Puff The Magic Dragon, and Morningtown Ride.
Oh wow, I just found a video of the Seekers singing 3 songs plus the National Anthem at the AFL Footy Grand Final 1994 with a full choir & Military band in front of 100,000 ppl.
One great Australian singer is Ms. Olivia Newton-John with the song Hopelessly Devoted to you from the Movie Grease. Rest in Peace. Subscriber from the Philippines.
The Seekers sang the title song to the movie "Georgie Girl" (1967) the 1st movie I saw with my parents as a 5 y.o. I haven't stopped singing ever since, sometimes even well. Lol
The first time I heard the Seekers we lived in the U.K. The Seekers as an Australian but unknown Group of young people who loved to sing together (Actually Judith was a very accomplished Jazz Pianist) they arrived in the U.K. to make their Name and were virtually Broke but with heaps of determination they made it, and Immediately I heard the Music I was Hooked on the Seekers. In 1982 My Wife and I along with our Young Children Migrated to Australia and we were determined to see the Seekers in a Concert, actually we were able to see them 3 times .... What a privilege that was. Suggest you search for their early Albums
Hahahahahahahaha @ 0:53! 🤫🤣👏 It’s wonderful news that you’ll be doing this together. You two make such a fantastic team! ❤️ I’m so happy you’ve found and enjoyed The Seekers. Like so many other Australians, I swear they are in my DNA. My Dad was a big fan since before I was born and used to play them on his record player. From as far back as I can remember, as soon as I could talk or hum along, I used to sing along with Dad. I knew every word of their greatest hits. These guys were as a big and as legendary in Australia as Peter, Paul, and Mary or The Carpenters were in America.
Just go with songs that have the most mentions or what takes your fancy - it's your channel do what works for you both. A combined channel is a great idea - love the input from both of you.
So glad u guys loved this, it is a classic from Australian pop history and the Seekers are all wonderful people and very talented performers. ps Judith Durham is such a beautiful woman with an incredible voice, it just shines thru doesn't it..
As a little girl my Nana 72 at the tine loved The Seekers so my mum took us all and Nana to The Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne back in March 1967. There was over 200,000 people there. That attendance has never been broken since. My Nana passed away 4 months later. They bring back wonderful memories for.🇦🇺❤
Chrissy Amphlett was Australia's first female rocker. Chrissy sung with the Aussie group Divinyls Sadly, she died from breast cancer. When she was diagnosed breast cancer they also gave her the news that she also had MS. But she was a woman strong in spirit. Before dying she asked that her music (where relevant) be used to promote breast cancer awareness. Songs such as "I touch myself". She also kicked an alcohol addiction she had for nearly 20 years. If you could react to her 'in memory' that would be so lovely. I think her best song is "Boys in Town".
Judith is reknown for her beautiful singing and the band was the first export out of Australia to become very famous in the 1960's as a cross between pop and folk singing. They are all in their late 70's now but they have had a wonderful career. By the way England were the main country outside of Australia that really took to them, but they were known throughout Europe and the Americas as well, perhaps even Asia. Their first hit was called GEORGIE GIRL and that is on youtube too. It was used in a movie if I recall rightly.
The Seekers are an Iconic Australian folk-pop group. Growing up these were the voices I listened to and loved. Judith's voice is so beautiful and has always been crystal clear and beautiful. I always wanted to be her when I grew up. Please react to their song, "I Am Australian". This song is an unofficial Australian National Anthem. It is the story of our nation from Indigenous people through various stages of settlement by non indigenous people from around the world to become who and what we Are. Australian.
I am 52. I grew up with my dad playing a lot of folk music records. I love the Seekers. My favorite group is Peter, Paul and Mary, but I love all of these groups. I had tickets to see them a few years ago. About 4 months before the concert date, Mary Travers died. I was heartbroken. They mean so much to me.
This song came out in 1865, when I was 5, and it's been a favorite of mine for 57 years now !!! Check out their song that was the theme to a movie in 1965 by the same name as the song, Georgie Girl
back in the late 1960s they held the world record for the most people attending a single act concert at the Sydney Myer music bowl in Melbourne Australia with just over 200,000 (200k) people attending the Australian farewell concert. At the time that attendance ran second to the Woodstock festival which was multiple acts over several days. They also knocked the Beatles White album off the top of the British pop charts and stopped the Rolling stones from a topping the charts also. Not bad for an Australian band.
Perhaps our most popular female singer is Olivia Newton John. Although like so many of her contemporary male singers, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, The Bee Gees, and AC/DC's the Young brothers, to name a few, she was born overseas but grew up in Australia. Also despite many international hits she is perhaps best known for her role as "Sandy" in the timeless classic musical "Grease"
Looks like the 50th anniversary farewell tour from 2014. Think Judith was about 71 when this was filmed, and had recently recovered from a stroke . . .
🇬🇧I really hope that after you'd finished filming this video you looked for the original recording of it. Judith was always a beautiful lady. ❤🎼 Another great song by this band is "Georgie Girl" 🎶
The Seekers were a tremendous success in Australia and overseas. Iconic "folk" band, pure music and Judith Durham's phenomenal voice (a lot like Karen Carpenter's). They were much older here but still able to sing beautifully. Much loved by older Australians (young Australians probably don't know them). Very musically talented group. Their song "I Am Australian" is Australia's second national anthem.
The Seekers were one of the first Aussie bands to gain international success. Vanessa Amorosi is an Australian singer of immense power and range , she will really blow you away. She would give Aretha Franklin a run for her money ,easy. Truly you won't be disappointed no matter what she sings. She has a real Rock Chick vibe.
Not true Rikki! They are ALL still alive !! I just googled it! You nearly gave me a heart attack!!! They are actually planning how to mark the 60th anniversary of how they started back in 1962
Love your appreciation of The Seekers, may I suggest looking up the original 1967 studio version of this song, it'll blow you away. They were, and probably still are, huge in Australia and Britian. 🤙🇦🇺. It might have been 1964 🤔
The Seekers were always amazing. They hit the international scene in the 1960's. Georgie Girl is best known because it was the hit song from that movie. Personally my favorite is The Carnival Is Over . It was a 19th century Russian song that Tom Springfield rewrote for them. The original, Stenka Razin, was about a Cossack leaving his lover to go to war, and The Seekers changed it to a lover after a carnival. The song is still in the top 50 largest selling songs in the UK. Judith has the most amazing voice and is best listened to from their early recordings. Because Judith had a very significant solo career, There are many Seekers farewell performances, but somehow they would always get back together again. This is a link to The Carnival Is Over from their UK farewell performance in 1968 th-cam.com/video/nze8B39OB0k/w-d-xo.html That TV special broke records at the time with 10 million tuning in to the broadcast. They were the first Australian pop group to be in the top 5 in the US, UK, and Australia at the same time. Their 1967 concert in Melbourne at the Meyer Bowl was in the Guiness Book of Records for many years vas the largest concert in the Southern Hemisphere. So yes, The Seekers were popular.
The group had Top 10 hits in the 1960s with "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" (written by Paul Simon), "Georgy Girl" (the title song of the film of the same name) and "The Carnival Is Over" by Tom Springfield, the last being an adaptation of the Russian folk song "Stenka Razin". It is still one of the top 50 best-selling singles in the UK. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described their style as "concentrated on a bright, uptempo sound, although they were too pop to be considered strictly folk and too folk to be rock".In 1995, the Seekers were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. "I'll Never Find Another You" was added to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia's Sounds of Australia registry in 2011. Woodley's and Dobe Newton's song "I Am Australian", which was recorded by the Seekers as well as Durham with Russell Hitchcock and Mandawuy Yunupingu, has become an unofficial Australian anthem. With "I'll Never Find Another You" and "Georgy Girl", the group also achieved success in the United States, but not nearly at the same level as in the rest of the world. The Seekers have sold over 50 million records worldwide. Peace out.
She's a Pocket Rocket, with a very strong voice, very popular in the 60's. A national treasure. She stopped performing for a long time to be with her husband. They went to England early on working on a cruise ship. More recently one of the men wrote "I am Australian."
Hey guys there's a video of them recording this live in the studio almost 60 years ago. Be awesome to see ya do a reaction to that version video. Also their song "Georgie girl " would be a good choice too.
Judith had just recovered from a stroke and had to learn how to sing again for this performance which made so special to be there.

One of the most romantic songs ever 💜
This song came out in 1865, when I was 5, and it's been a favorite of mine for 57 years now !!! Check out their song that was the theme to a movie in 1965 by the same name as the song, Georgie Girl
1865???
back in the late 1960s they held the world record for the most people attending a single act concert at the Sydney Myer music bowl in Melbourne Australia with just over 200,000 (200k) people attending the Australian farewell concert. At the time that attendance ran second to the Woodstock festival which was multiple acts over several days.
They also knocked the Beatles White album off the top of the British pop charts and stopped the Rolling stones from a topping the charts also.
Not bad for an Australian band.
Have loved this song by this group since the 60s. It's perfect.
I thought that your sun glasses were to look cool for this old song. 😎
Love the Seekers..crying shame they broke up so early. This would have been recorded again decades after the original release.
Thank you for that.I believe that you would also enjoy The Carnival is over.
The Rascals "How Can I Be Sure" and "A Girl Like You" will still the same emotions.
The seekers were very popular and still are one of the best
The Seekers were one of the first Aussie bands to gain international success. Vanessa Amorosi is an Australian singer of immense power and range , she will really blow you away. She would give Aretha Franklin a run for her money ,easy. Truly you won't be disappointed no matter what she sings. She has a real Rock Chick vibe.
I love the seekers. She's amazing and still is. She never lost her beautiful voice and still is amazing. Unfortunately one on the seekers passed away.
🤙🇦🇺. It might have been 1964 🤔
I knew the group, but not her story. Her voice at the end is as lovely as it was in the sixties. RIP Judith.
Back in the day. The Seekers were big. Very big.
Judith vibrated a little higher than most of us.
Love you two. 😊
So cool. Amazing stuff. Real.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your support! 💚
Peace out.
The Seekers started their career back in the 1960's; and were the first Australian group to find success overseas.
Thank you
Judith's first love was singing Jazz she was brilliant
My tween crush...Still beautiful.
For 12 months... 'The Seekers' were number one on the music charts, keeping The Beatles' rated in the 2nd position.
