but what if the expression of the gene is recessive, then wouldn't it make more sense for the parents to be heterozygous carriers and not homozygous recessive?
You'll have to explain. Y-linked disorders will only ever effect males (or individuals with a y chromosome). x-linked recessive disorders will affect males more often than females, but will not exclusively affect males. Let me know if you still see an error.

It's strictly for genetic disorders, so it won't work on disorders that do not have a direct genetic component.
