Sears Stour Tour Concord CA

Today we're taking a look at the full-line Sears location in Concord CA. This store is definitely one of the more depressing ones left in the chain, but recently seems to have received a substantial restock of products compared to the last time I visited it. The store was also moderately busy, with maybe 15 shoppers on the first floor wandering around and a few people making purchases.

20 years ago when I was last in this store they had five times the stuff there is now. Lots of empty space, and bare walls now. Disgusting. Sears used to have some good brands of clothing. All of that is gone now, and what they have looks like what was carried at Kmart. The only clothing brand left I recognize is the Beverly Hills Polo Club that they have always had.

In general, department stores are nothing like they used to be. You used to be able to find high quality clothing at good prices, but now everything is made of super thin materials and even basic polos that used to be 100% cotton now have some polyester in them. 100% cotton Hanes t-shirts is a lot thinner and rougher than it used to be. I looked up some of these clothing brands and I was pretty surprised that most are actually name brands that are sold by other department stores, but they weren't on the market 20 years ago. XRAY (XRAYJeans) is a designer brand sold by Macy's & Nordstrom's; Jachs is sold by Nordstrom Rack, Boscov's & Costco; French Laundry/NY Laundry/The Sweatshirt Project is sold by Boscov's, and Nicole Miller is sold by Kohl's and Nordstrom Rack. They also have US Polo, Wolverine, Hanes, Champion, and Chaps Home. Some of the brands they used to carry were just licensed store brands like Outdoor Life and Everlast, while others were name brands that don't exist anymore or still exist, like Southpole, but don't make much of anything anymore.

I went to a dying Big Lots too and may post that soon. Otherwise, some friends and I are considering visiting the Virgin Islands, so there could be some Kmart filming opportunities there!
