So the context behind Super science was basically my classmates in Uni were bugging me about tutoring sessions for them as I apparently know what I am doing on the course so i sort of jokingly decided to make a channel and upload videos about our lectures. The design was just something to throw together and help me learn more about colour theory and geometry and stuff.
So yeah sort of a joke then but I thought about it seriously so now I am cringing.

I don't feel the redesign of the gadget logo, seem a bit pointless to do, the feed back was appreciated but the execution of the redesign, in my opinion, was lacking. Would be nice to see more time spent on the gadget as it definitely needs more time yo elaborate on the initial feedback. I also find the original icon fine as it doesn't need to look exactly like a G unless the client pointed out that he wanted a G.
yeah and it soesnt look like a robot anymore which was fun
It barely looked like a robot if you really stared and had the business name, and it definitely didn’t look like a G. So I think the problem is it needs to go one of the two ways. It needs to commit to being a little robot icon or just a G if you can’t make the blended G/robot work effectively. Instead it’s doing two things less successfully than one thing well

I think if the artist moved that circle to the top instead of the bottom it would look like a g but keep the main feel of the design. But good point santo!!

I don't think you first redesign really works well. Yes the G is more readable, but it completely loses the fun the original has.
Delivery Pro is really nice, doesn't look to close to the older Patreon logo despite the similar shape, so it's cool.
Super Science, I don't feel like the logo is very enticing for children and the font choice is not very fitting imo.
This is obviously subjective, and only my own perspective on it
The guy said he prefered being practical over creative but there was litterly so little creativity in those logos that they all were already existing logos. Respect for calling yourself out but the only logo you designed that I thought was better than the original is the DNA one.
As the original creator of Super Science. I feel as if I tried to put too many hidden meanings and stuff into teh original logo and so it looked messy.
I dont know what to say but I much preefr the redesign of my Super science logo so thank you. I guess anyone can ask me anything about it.

@@hannalowercase5928 No lol. It was meant to e for me to go over the lectures in my uni course for my cohor. But the way they act it may as well ahve been a childrens channel.
@Nightshade Yeah I know, I struggle to see the letters on a keyboard sometimes and spellchecker doesn't pick it up. So preefr or prefer as long as you know what I mean which you quite clearly do then it is alright to use and makes sense. Also I guarantee you spell a lot of words wrong all the time so...

I have to say... i personally am not a fan of the logos that are just some letters... of course together with the text they look awesome, but alone? I think then it becomes so... same-y... your Super Science logo for example looked sooo nice! with and without text. and even the argument that the fancy letter logos work good with apps... but i already have so many app icons with just letters... i dont need to be able to spell a text on my phone home screen 🤔so I found for example the original Gadget n Gadget logo much more fun and apealing to look at
As the creator of the Super Science logo I prefer the new design but would personally just mess around with the colours more.
Yeah just using letters is a no, it's unfortunate he even went there. And I agree the original gadgets logo was more interesting

To make the Delivery Pro logo more unique, you could also consider integrating elements that suggest delivery. Like a map marker, or an arrow shape going through the design somewhere.
It’s so cool seeing how graphic designers defy the “hourly pay” system with such creativity as the type shown in this video. We are able to make people pay for ideas they wouldn’t find otherwise, and we can come up with things in such a small amount of time (10 MINUTES… WHAT?!).
I'm sorry if I'm the oddball here, but you literally just said it's cool to rip people off.
These designs were unoriginal and plain. They were not unique. A lot of Will's (and Fiverr) logos are just a custom letter, but I guess that's what you get when you're pumping them out that quickly.
I understand that these were not meant to be final logos in this video, but I'm speaking about actual logos that he has shown us.
PRO TIP
in the first logo example ::there is a better way than just using the color as the background, to deceive the eye that the cutting thing happened.
Rather, you could just hold the ALT key while using the pathfinder tool, which will make it still editable.

I love these! The colors in the last logo were so nice.
I thought the colours in the original last logo was nice but after many more months of learning I agree taht my original design was bad.

personally i dont really like the new delivery pro logo design coz the logo on its own, without the text, doesnt have any elements that suggests it is a delivery company. personally i would have associated the new logo to some print company had i not known the context
the square on the original logo kinda looked like a delivery carton so it was more appealing to me
Although a logo needs to be appropriate, it doesn’t necessarily need to tell the viewer what the company is about. Just look at the greatest logos ever designed. The Starbucks logo for example, does not suggest that it’s a coffee company at all. What a lot of designers would do is make their logos too literal. And in the case of a coffee company, most designers would add a coffee bean, or something coffee related. Then what often ends up happening is that the logo becomes generic and cliché. This just one example, there are countless others like the Target logo, the McDonald’s logo, the Pepsi logo, etc. Going back to Delivery Pro, the brand name literally says delivery, and with a lot of logos the type is part of the logo. The mark is only half of the logo. So I don’t think anyone would confuse it for anything else.
In your defence Will, the stroke setup you have of the DP logo is different enough from the DisplayPort logo at least. It's got a 60's 70's graphic arts feel though, so could have a sibling from further back then.
for G, some robot like extensions can be added like reddit, some antenna, ears and other electronic sensors
for DP, some car wheels/flight like amazon can also be added
for 3rd one, the flower can be made by the DNA's

The lower and DNA was what i was orignially going for when I made the logo. I also wante dthe DNA to look like 2 S's.

Very much enjoyed this redesign video. Even if only spending 10 minutes on these designs but preferred your in each instance (original Gadget n Gadget logomark against the red made me think Nintendo Switch). The revised Delivery Pro was the best imo, but thought this must've been done before, an idea could've been to keep the 'D' shape but somehow include an element that suggested 'Pro' (which could be interchangeable if the brand grew into newer services, for instance a Delivery Plus, Local or International).
I do find cliché can be a good thing on occasion as a starting point (just not too much) and the approach to 'Super Science' worked for me for sure (reminds me some of Sony Vaio), thinking when you applied two vector points and moved (looking like a long 'S') could be duplicated, mirrored then made two different colours. Looking forward to the next. Thumbs up from me!
I created the original Super Science logo and think I tried to get too much meaning into the logo so it looked bad.
@@AnderEvermore Congrats on your original logo! If you continue to watch professionals such as Will (highly recommend his video featuring Logo Geek!) I believe his resources would be a great help. Highly recommend looking at Sagi Haviv and the work at Chermayeff, Geismar and Haviv (some of the most iconic logos ever!)
@@AnderEvermore just takes a whole bunch of practice and research. I'm 8 years into the profession and still struggle with logos. Got all other aspects of branding down but still learn a lot from other professionals on social media! Hope you keep going!!

The D and P logo immediately reminded me of the Danny Phantom symbol
I was giggling imaging ways to make a *D* and a *P* stick together 😉
I tried designing something to combine the letters Pand D without being too cliche for my next logo and yeah it didnt go well.
All I can think of for you first design was a slightly changed version of the G in Giant (The American Grocery store) lol, but hey great vid!

The Delivery Pro logo reminds me a lot of Deep Purple's 80s logo

This makes me feel better. I swear I do a crap ton of logo designs and I feel like im a terrible artist that I can't come up with an answer in 20 tries. Either its taken or it isn't functional or just URGH. Now I know I'm not alone lol
the icon for the science logo had a nice curvy and round design - a squared font like the one used does not make sense, it's not really a great choice for the design
With the gadget logo - you started with a red square and added white rectangle/red rectangle to create the look - but this only works on a white background. What step did you do to merge the shape and then create the final G shape?
I think he used the shape builder tool on illustrator. It helps merge and cut out shapes from multiple overlapping ones
He is using Adobe Illustrator. There is a tool called "Pathfinder". In it you can find the tools to add (merge), minus (remove), or divide (seperate into parts) overlapping shapes. In this case, he would have used minus front shape from back.
He said it in the start when he created that white rectangle - he did it to create the illusion of negative space so he would have more control in creating the shape he wants, implying he will remove that white shape from the logo later, when he is happy with the design.

certainly is better then the original which I created lol.
Usually for full professional logos, there is a B/W or monochrome alternative. In most cases, they just change the entire thing to B/W (as in the photo way) or they get creative and use negative space

Adobe Illustrator but for this kind of work the work flow isn't too far off from Inkscape.
Gadget and gadget logo didn’t even need a redesign in my opinion, it had a good resource in the g if you want to use an icon

the proverbial 'O' G has mostly been more round than square
perhaps making the outside more square and maintaining the internal roundness of the 'G' would be a good idea
The first redesign is why so many people roast you of not being a real designer.

The first logo looks like someone just altered the logo of German big bank Sparkasse. Even the bright red is the same.

The gadget n gadget logo is exactly GFUEL logo
The thing I'm missing here is that logo design isn't just about making something pretty. It's about creating a recognizable brand, conveying meaning and purpose, working at different scales and in different mediums, etc.
Also, creativity and simplicity aren't mutually exclusive. A create idea can still be very simple. Making everything just the letter(s) of the name is simple, but not creative. Neither the G nor the dp conveyed any meaning that would make the logo recognizable for the brand.
1: reflect the logo horizontally.
I was wrong. They are all terrible.
The first logo - I looked at it before your changed and thought "oh, it's a nice G" then you said it doesn't look like a G at all and you made the most generic G ever... I don't think that's a good way to go around really "designing" things. Definitely the original for that Gadget n Gadget was better, more fun and actually connected (even though it was in quite a convoluted way) to what they are doing.
