  • Born in North Korea, Yeonmi Park shares her harrowing journey to escape the hunger, thought control, and violence she experienced living under authoritarian regimes. Grateful to have found acceptance and justice in the United States, she cautions Americans to see the early warning signs-here in America-of the communist nightmares she fled in North Korea and China.

“I allowed him to rape me”
I’m not easily shaken, but that line gave me chills. This level of pragmatism, to racionalize being submitted to such abuse, can only happen in the most desperate situations. The more you study the history of socialism, the more you encounter episodes like this, where women (doesn’t matter if they are doctors, lawyers, teachers) desperate for food had to give up their dignity and the sacrament of their bodies for survival.
I’ll give up my life fighting any tyrannical government before this fate befalls the women in my family, in my community or in my country.

I absolutely admire this woman and the stance she has taken on fighting against oppression. Many people and myself sympathise with what she had endured through under the North Korean regime and I support her continuing stance against oppression.

With the possibility of visiting Cambodia Feb, 2022 I sought to learn l some of its history and learned about the communist Khmer Rouge take over and the “killing fields” of millions during 1974-1979 and control tactics and their are way to similarities and atrocities. So thankful to be born in the United States of America.
