Venetta Fields was John's backup singer for many many years, She came to Australia from the USA and never left. She was also a backing singer for many famous American artists, like Ike & Tina Turner, I think Diana Ross....so many others to mention. John always showcases his backing singers during his shows. This was sublime. John with Vanetta and Lindsey nailed it. I love how John is always willing to let his backup singers and band members take centre stage, and you can see how he surrounds himself with the very best musicians. The fact that these musicians and backup singers stayed with him for decades speaks highly of the character of the man. It's no wonder he is so loved here in Austraila.
Yep. Venetta was an Ikette. Has also performed with Pink Floyd, Humble Pie, Barbra Streisand, Elkie Brooks, Neil Diamond, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger and the Rolling Stones. Lindsay has also been with John forever. And you haven’t experienced John Farnham until you’ve heard his cover of The Beatles song Help, live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The best live vocal ever performed.
I love Miss Venetta Fields and she is still teaching voice not far from where I live. When she looks up at Sweaty John with a mix of love and a proud Mama I could hug her. Lindsay Field is also much loved as is Lisa, another backup singer who I believe was on baby break. None of them ever left John. Miss Venetta had her own career in America and was even in 2 movies. She could have been anyone she wanted to be but we were lucky enough to get her. Last time I saw Lindsay sing with John all of his hair was grey. I think you would have enjoyed John as Jesus in the stage musical. Jesus Christ Superstar. He sings Gethsemane so beautifully. There are not ant genres he can’t sing or we haven’t found one yet and they are all so easy for him. Or he makes them look and sound easy. John taught me that everyone involved in a concert is important and we should know everyone’s names.
