    The liquid 2 tube application of jb weld does work. As long as u hammer the wheel back in shape where the bead will set. Being a factory worker you'd be surprised what gets used on you guys cars and jb weld or something similar is one of the things that gets used on minor cracks. Foreman sneaks alot of stuff past quality to save a 99 percent good part. Now for my own personal story I had a slow leak on my challenger rt. Bought it brand new from the dealership and 2014 and come 2020 i got a slow leak. So i took the tire off preparing to jb weld the rim and what you know factory had already put a patch of jb weld putty on my rim that shift off this past winter enough to expose the small crack and my warranty just went out or i would have had them give me a new rim. But I cleaned and prepped and refilled the area before doing a decent patch of 3 layers of liquid jb weld. Back solid. So a small cheaper piece of putty the plant put on lasted 6 years it will be fine on oem rims.

      That's interesting! My only concern is now the wheel is out of balance because of that additional weight being put on the wheel! You should go get it balanced bud! Thanks for the comment man, super interesting

    ,do it from the inside of the rim the air pressure will force it into the crack instead of off the crack

      This is actually a good idea, however if it were to fall off inside it would damage the inside of the tire and rim and might cause worse damage.. anyways it was repaired at a tire shop 100%

    • @tarheelsflank50
      @tarheelsflank50 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GarageNineteen it wouldnt fall off. the reason yours fell off is you attached the weld to a tire that was constantly changing shape. its like attaching bubblegum to a sheet of paper and a rock and throwing it. the paper will separate..

    Good thing I watched this video, I have the same problem right now and was considering buying this product. Even though my rim is not as bad as yours but it cracked on the same spot where it once was weld. I think the best thing for me is to take it to a good shop and have it weld again and pay 150 which is what's gonna cost me instead of having to buy this and deal with the same problem after. Thanks for this video.

    Not made for that heavy of a repair but, excellent for other small jobs. Used on a motorcycle kickstand after lowering a Motorcycle’s suspension. Had to shorten kick stand 1-1/2 to match and used this same exact putty to reattach the shortened bottom. Holds great but, of course I’m gonna tack it once I get a chance at my buddies shop.
    Worth a shot though on the rims for the price and for the labor $$ saved at a shop. You know if you don’t have a friend they are gonna 🔨🔩💸💵💸.

    You need the two part JP weld The only way that stuff would ever work the one that you're using you got to buy heat it's for exhaust leaks but that doesn't withstand anything else but when you use a two-part JB well even on exhaust heat it's very strong but if you're having mag wheels aren't those metal you could have just welded them on

  • @jeffcaffrey70
    @jeffcaffrey70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I wonder if it would of been better if you didn't stuff it against the tire. Because it might be opening up the seal of the tire against the rim.

    Wrong materials; wrong application. What *might* work is a low melt ally 'welding rod' if you can get enough heat into the rim. Propane or butane would struggle, so you'd have to go for oxy/ace and be extremely careful as it's quite capable of melting steel. I do a lot of dabbling in engineering in my home workshop, so I own butane, propane, oxy/ace, stick and MIG. Next stop TIG and plasma arc cutters.

    Three adages apply here: 1. "You get what you pay for," 2. "Life is hard; it's harder if you're stupid," and 3. "Amateurs don't get professional results." Why you would even attempt to trust the structural integrity or your life to something that comes in a tube is beyond me, but at least you finally got to the right decision.

I had the rims repaired by a machine shop but the repairs held less than a week. waste of 400 dollars. i think i'll just slap jb weld on the inside this time. i've seen other people with big rims that used jb weld with some success.i have one rim off the car now, because i could see the crack was starting to run. the other crack is still tiny and stable but i fear it will begin running as well. fuck me

Then...fill your crack/s and drill hole with whatever youre using, ON THE INSIDE OF WHEEL!!! Let cure for recommended time, then sand flush. Remount your tire back onto repaired wheel...good to go!

      Cracked rims should not be repaired it should be replaced.
      Especially if you have multiple cracks on it. Not only that look at all the weights add on the rim to make it balance the rim is bent. Bet you have crazy vibrations at high speeds. I don’t know much but I know what happens when a wheel fails while driving at high speeds.
