Cream led the way and opened the door for 3 piece rock bands. Rush came along a blew the door off its hinges. Two of the most creative bands ever.

@@peter9962 I totally agree! Outside a small handful of bands during the 90s, no one in that era could sniff rock from late 60s-early 80s. Greatest music era ever. 90s was the era of the best hip-hop music, and 80s was the best vocal pop.
Greatest era for music is today. You have instant access to all previous eras. Free. In your pocket. Concerts that you might otherwise need a passport and TARDIS to see. Buying directly from the artist.

If you meant that the music of decades past was better, that’s debatable. Sure we remember the classics. But every decade has Tons of songs released that are forgettable, disposable CRAP. “Surfin’ Bird”. Journey reminding us to believe in people made out of streetlights (or was that streetlights made of people…writing just SO good and clear on this). 4 Non Blondes who had one hit where half of the lyrics are “Hey”, “Yeah”, or “ooh”.
TLDR: Good song. Great Band. There are more songs I like less than better than this.
Don't allow yourself to become an old curmudgeon. These guys were great, and they made the best of the instruments and technology available to them at the time, and so do today's musicians. It is a different time, but there are loads of great musicians around today if you can just take your blinkers off. Good music is good music. BTW I am _considerably_ older than 40.

Best show ive ever seen in the Tacoma Dome 1984
The year was 1982. I was 11 years old over my friends house. We built a fort under his parents picnic table. He brought his boom box out and popped in a tape from his older cousin. It was Rush’s Moving Pictures. The first song on it is Tom Sawyer. He pressed play on the boom box and my entire world changed. I was hooked. I went to my first Rush concert in Philly in 1984 and would see them 26 times, the last time being at their last show they ever played in their hometown of Toronto which they filmed for a concert video. 40 years later I am still hooked.
Mine was a couple of years later when I was 10 - my bro gave me a mixed tape that our older cousin had given him. RUSH, the cars, grandmaster flash, tom petty, etc. Was a Rush fan by the time Tom Sawyer finished the first time i heard it.

Mine was when the album came out in 79 and I just got my license and me and my buddies would drive around all night rocking to this on the cassette deck.
Fun fact about bassist/singer Geddy Lee - his parents, who emigrated to Canada from Poland after surviving the holocaust, named him Gary Lee Weinrib - and because of her thick accent, when his mother called his name, his friends thought she was saying Geddy instead of Gary. The nickname stuck and he eventually changed it legally.

No one had a more varied kit of percussion, definitely the most versatile, powerful drummer, for sheer power I give a nod to John Bonham but they are both part of bands that were as good as the sum of their parts, which is saying something. Forever music, she is the latest example of great music being timeless.

One of the myriad amazing things about Neil Peart's drumming is his ability to disguise a change in time signature. 'Tom Sawyer' switches from 4/4 to 7/4 when the keyboard comes in to bring in the solo section. That was one of Neil's amazing talents as a percussionist.
That, and his ability to throw in a fill anywhere. Where the vast majority of even great drummers would simply keep the beat, the Professor is dropping in extended difficult runs.
You’ve opened a treasure trove.
This is a band that is totally unique. Not only are they incredibly innovative and boundary breaking, they backed themselves and their music when their record company wanted to commercialise themselves. The record company freaked out at their 4th album which was a prog-rock concept album when they’d expected something radio friendly. They thought it was unsellable, but it stuck a chord with listeners and the band blew up as a cult phenomenon. They’ve become incredibly successful (at one point only third behind The Beatles and Rolling Stones for most consecutive gold and platinum albums) but through little in the way of commercial radio play nor MTV support. It was an unspoken pact between the band and the fans - keep producing incredible music and we’ll keep buying the records and spreading the word.
As for the music, one of the things that would stun concert-goers was how full the sound was from just three guys. This was in a time before backing tracks and MIDI and all sorts of technological helpers for a live musical performance, and the band’s pride wouldn’t allow them to put music into an album track that they couldn’t pull off on stage.
To that end, both Alex (guitar) and Geddy (bass/keyboards/lead vox) would play keyboards with their feet live to fill in bass or other keyboard parts. Neil would play an enormous drum/percussion rig and they’d do it all fully live, just the three of them.
This was why old school bands used to have double-neck guitars, because certain songs would need a change of instrumentation that the players could do if they had the instruments available.
That leads up to the recommendation to watch the live version of Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left tour/concert. Enjoy it but watch as Alex switches from 12 string to 6 string on his guitar and Geddy switches (right at the very end) from bass to 6 string on his guitar, both playing keyboards with their feet and Geddy of course playing keyboards or bass whilst singing, and Neil at the foundation on his massive kit.
Also note that aside from the first album and and small handful of songs on the next album or two, Neil wrote all their lyrics, and those lyrics are the fourth member of the band. Neil’s interests changed over the years, from heavily literary-inspired concepts to later much ‘more human-inspired ideas, his writing was phenomenal.
After you’ve done Xanadu (live) from Exit Stage Left, try Spirit Of Radio (an ode to the Joy and miracle that radio allowed, bringing music to the masses), then Limelight.

The best description of Neil Peart ( the drummer) I've ever heard is "He's your favorite drummer's favorite drummer."
This is called a, "Power Trio". The guitarists write the music while the drummer writes all the lyrics......very odd.
Known as a "Musician's Band", Rush embodies a unique lyrical depth and musical complexity unheard of today.

Sadly Neil and John are only making music for the people up there and both were so irreplaceable their bands ceased to exist.

I remember the first time I was playing a video game at age 13 at a fried chicken place (totally normal in the 80's) in South Texas in 1982 and I had a Sony Walkman and a buddy of mine said check out this band. Before that I was a big Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Led Zepplen, Black Sabbath, Steve Miller, etc etc classic rock fan. I put the tape in and heard "Tom Sawyer"... my mouth opened and my jaw dropped. I instantly went home, scrounged up $20, rode my bike to the mall and bought Moving Pictures from the record store. I rode my bike back home listening to it. I felt like I was on top of world. That night I fell asleep to it and I listened to it every day and slept every night to it for like I think 2 years straight. I then started to go backwards and buying their albums one by one and would listen to them, read the lyrics and I became a Rush freak. I didn't want to hear any other music. I literally thought all other music sucked compared to Rush. I finally one day had to hide all Rush tapes and start listening to other music when I was 15... like Depeche Mode and the Cure. I think I converted like 20 friends to all be Rush fans too. We used to play Dungeons & Dragons and listen to Caress of Steel over the weekends. Man, growing up in that era blows away what these kids that lock themselves up in a room by themselves and play Xbox all the time. I wish I could time travel back to that era. I started listening to Rush again like 3 years ago and its like I am time traveling. I literally didn't listen to Rush from like 1987 to 2020. When I started listening again, it blew me away all over again! I turn on some of my younger friends to Rush and I've converted some younger guys to become Rush fans today.

This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!

We lost Neil Peart on January 7th 2020 to brain cancer! Geddy Lee called him: THE PROFESSOR because he had a verbal and musical vocabulary that I would put against anyone including Beethoven and Albert Einstein all this from a guy who didn’t graduate high school! Not only was he the drummer-percussionist of RUSH but he also wrote the Lyrics! RIP PROFESSOR
This was recorded in Quebec Canada at Le Studio(gone now😞). The band recorded this piece by piece and the video was released. That’s why you see Geddy doing keys and bass separately. One of my favs. April Wine recorded in this studio as well.

Oh, if this is your introduction to Rush, you have NO IDEA what amount of musical and lyrical treasures lies ahead of you.

Few things...
They are recording at Le Studio, a now closed down recording studio in the province of Quebec up here in Canada.
Bands generally lay down tracks individually but can record a song together depending on many factors. Vocals, drums and guitars are generally all recorded separately in a studio setting.
So you are seeing Geddy Lee sing isolated vocals, recorded on one track, which is then edited in with all the other "tracks" (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, Taurus (foot pedals), etc..
Modern day studios have mixers with 24 or more "tracks", and in post production the entire song is mixed to the bands and recording engineers liking.
But the true test of any musical act is how they replicate their studio songs into a live performance and Rush were at the tippy top of live concerts.
All 3 members all have responsibilities for playing their primary and secondary instruments which also include triggers. Many acts have side stage or technology do that but Rush... nope.
There are lots of concert vids of this amazing band that show how professional and seriously they took their jobs and I'd highly suggest their R30 official concert DVD/Blu Ray.
Xanadu is a song that showcases this and most would suggest their Exit Stage Left concert but the R30 concert shows some impressive overhead camera angles showing Geddy (notably) and Alex both using foot pedals to add another layer to their sound.
Instead of adding a 4th member way back in the late 70's when they added in keyboards to their music, they decided NO as to not potentially ruin their unique 3 man democracy and chose to learn how to play more instruments and be able to do it live.
Great reaction, and apologies for a long winded reply. It's important to put into context how this unique band were able to preform incredibly complex music all on their own while sounding like a 4 or 5 piece band.
Cheers from Toronto... the hometown of Rush. I saw them 13 times during their career and each show was mind-blowing.
Sad to report, but Le Studio burned in 2017 and was officially torn down in 2020. A tragic loss.
was lucky to see them play live on several occasions. i grew up with rush (i'm 57) and to this day it still amazes me that 3 guys created such music. lyrically and musically unmatched in my little corner of the world. the memories this band evokes are amazing. more rush please!

@@vicprovost2561 I liked the live version on All The World’s A Stage. They leave a couple of passages out from the studio version, so I copied and pasted them in. It’s not exactly seamless, but it works well enough.

There’s a tremendous ambiance about a concert hall…to even before a band starts playing…from the time the doors open..this place feels electric you know!
That’s one of the things I like most about the road that feeling of standing in the hall when the doors open feel the excitement bursting into the hall.
I must admit I feel very comfortable playing live a lot!
A very modern urban setting for that Tom Sawyer mentality and a very carefree stride and a very self-possessed kind of air.
Xanadu: The question we tend to ask the most often is WHAT IF? I think of you had to simplify a motivation or simplify a moving force in our music that would probably…suffice!
Red Barchetta: Well it seems to me a car is one of those handy metaphors and volumes have been written about the sociological and cultural impact of the car and what it represents but it also has a very fundamental sensual feel and it’s a metaphor for sexuality and freedom.
We’ve certainly tried to guide everything by the principles that were interested in and the freedom of choice and the material we’ve been playing and expression of music that we found to be exciting would excite other people as well.
If the songwriting is important and playing really well on stage is important it’s gonna make the difference between feeling good or not feeling good when I walk off stage feeling that I played as well as I can or as close to well as I can then I feel very satisfied and good for what you have done.

I think there is a very strong relation maybe not generally recognized between drums and between words as the rhythmic structure and phrasing and the rhythm of verse especially is very strongly rooted in the same syncopation as drums the same patterns of thinking overall work for me with words as much as they do with drum beats.
Rush's music is a gift for the ear.... the lyrics are a gift for humanity

If you want a real “out of this world” song by RUSH check out their 20 minute epic “2112”. Their record company said “Hey guys, could you come up with a few short songs we can get played on the radio?” RUSH said “Hold my beer …”.

Stacey, "Tom Sawyer" is from the 1800s by Author Mark Twain, a book banned by some schools even though it is fabulous. The song is also a statement applying the philosophy of Ayn Rand, the famous Russian woman philosopher who immigrated to America to escape the abuses of Russian Communism (and told us all about it) The theme of this song is a celebration of the mind.
And they sounded this good live too - with just the three of them. Most talented 3-piece band EVER!

The Camera Eye!
Neil Peart plays drums and was the band's songwriter. Alex Lifeson plays a unique style of guitar. Geddy Lee plays bass and keyboards, as well as sings. If you listen to enough Rush, you'll find that he's got two distinct voices that change with the style of song.
This is called a power trio, but people aren't going to like what I'm going to say here. A lot of rock bands really only have three people playing. The Who, for instance, was one of the most powerful and loudest rock bands, with just a guitar, bass, and drums. The fourth member was a dedicated singer who picked up a tambourine once in a while.
With power trios, most notably Rush, ZZ Top, and Triumph, one of the three players takes on the role of singer. In the case of Rush, Geddy Lee also played keys once in a while. To keep up the bass playing, especially in a live setting, he used the foot pedals to fill in bass gaps.
I don't know why people would dislike what you're writing, it's perfectly true after all. However, I'd argue that Geddy's multitasking makes him stand out when compared to most other trios.
@calanor4130 I wouldn't argue against Rush standing apart from other bands due to Geddy Lee. But I've had this conversation with other people who argue against what I'm saying. Despite most other 4-piece rock bands really only have 3 instruments, they argue that they aren't a trio because of the singer.
I agree, even with 4 members, it's still a trio of musicians. There have been many, but let's not forget Hendrix, also Cream, and even the Doors.
Let's be honest here. When you have Neil Peart and Geddy Lee ( as great as Alex Lifeson is) - Alex Lifeson did not need to be a full time lead guitar player- Anything he did blended in with what the other 2 did. If he did not play in Rush but another band he would have got his due as a top 20 guitarist ever.
No autotune, no computer mix or time/pitch edits, just 3 dudes with enough galent worth 3000 contemporary bands. Neil Peart the drummer is a rock god... he died couple years ago and still kicks ass.

One of the best things about Rush was their live performances. They were SO GOOD at recreating just what you heard on the album!! Among many other things, it truly was one their strong points. I can't tell you how many shows I've been to, and I don't recall them being late to the stage at any of them. The same can't be said for A LOT of bands! To me, that shows a lot of respect to their fans, doing what they really loved.
RUSH is best appreciated live. Xanadu, from the Exit Stage Left Tour 1981 is one of their most incredible performances. The TH-cam channel ‘Stickhits’ has a very good remastered version.

IMO, Rush is the greatest and most talented rock band ever. All three are master musicians. I have been a fan since the early 1980s, so was fortunate to have seen them live on many occasions, right up through their final tour. Sadly, percussionist and lyricist Neil Peart passed of brain cancer in 2020, a couple of years after they completed their final tour. There is a huge catalog spanning more than 40 years. Their live performances were incredible

The video for the song was probably filmed during the recording session at Le Studio (which no longer exists), which is why you see Geddy Lee play bass, sing, and play keyboards in separate shots. However, if you really want to be amazed, watch any of the "live" performances. The wall of sound that they produce live is unbelievable. Geddy will have the keyboards in front of him, with the bass, and alternate the instruments because of repeat samplings on preset, which he gets going with a button or a foot pedal, and still sing.
Geddy Lee's voice has been compared to Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. He is considered one of the greatest bass guitarists, if not THE best, in rock and roll.
Alex Lifeson on guitar is one of the most underappreciated and yet one of the greatest guitarists in rock. He is my favorite guitarist.
Neil Peart (pronounced Purt) aka The Professor was the greatest drummer in rock, and if he's not...the lists place him just under John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Neil kept time better than a metronome and played the drums not as percussion, but as melody and harmony with the band. Neil was the most erudite member of the band, writing all of the lyrics. Unfortunately, he passed in 2020. He was a Renaissance Man...he not only was musician and a lyricist, he wrote several travel books and a few novels as well. He also had some tragic stuff happen in his life, the death of his daughter with his first wife, then shortly after his first wife...leading to a 5 year hiatus from music. His first book was written following those tragedies.
My favorite RUSH song is "Subdivisions" which was the song that introduced me to the band. These guys are the musician's musicians band with complex rhythms, changing time signatures, melodies and harmonies that go in unexpected directions, and the sheer musicianship these guys possessed.

@@mgnzmn9362After Steve Hackett left, Genesis was a three piece. They never played live as a 3 piece though, they always toured with Chester Thompson on drums and Daryl Sturmer on bass or guitar. The other bands toured as 3 pieces. (Not certain about ELP)

The person singing and playing "guitar" actually bass guitar and playing the keyboards is the same person. This is the world famous Le Studio in Morin Heights where many top artist recorded at back in the late 1970's through the 1980's. It was state of the art. The man that owned the studio added video recording capabilities to the studio by 1981 so all of Rush's video's were shot here during this period. The opening scene is from the lake looking towards the studio. They actually lived there while recording Permanent Wave and Moving Pictures.

Welcome to Rush! I am a new fan myself (of just a few months). They are an amazing trio and write complicated music (and also manage to convey that in their live performances!). Rush is a Canadian band. The guitarist, Alex Lifeson, formed the band when he was a teenager, and his best friend from the age of 13 is none other than Geddy Lee, who became Rush's singer/bass player/keyboardist. In 1974, Rush released their first album with a different drummer (John Rutsey) who then left the band. Neil Peart auditioned and joined Rush in 1974. These three you watched in this video formed Rush's lineup until Neil's retirement in 2015. Neil also wrote the band's lyrics. Sadly, Neil passed away from brain cancer in 2020. Throughout their 40-year career, all three members of Rush were the best of friends. I suggest you check out Rush's live performances; they are amazing! If you watch the live version of 'Analog Kid' from the Clockwork Angels tour, you can watch Geddy Lee multitask on bass, keyboards, foot pedals and singing!

Another Canadian power trio definitely worth checking out would be Triumph. The lit up the US festival in 1983 and their entire set is on TH-cam. PLEASE react to that sometime.

In 1983 or 1984, my brother had some friends from his high school over. They were all big fans of Rush and were checking out the Moving Pictures album together. Back then, there was no internet, so they spent time looking at the pictures and credits on the album cover. It was a gathering to listen to the album, as they were all fans of other Rush albums like Signals, Hemispheres, Grace Under Pressure, and of course 2112. Since that day, Rush has been a big part of my life. I always admired Geddy Lee for playing various instruments, especially the bass, except for drums, which were played by the amazing Neil Peart. Neil Peart was definitely one of the best drummers ever! It's also worth mentioning that Lifeson is an underrated guitarist, as he's truly amazing and has a unique style too. Cheers!

Moving Pictures is my favourite Rush album, heard a couple hundred times. I saw them on the signals tour in 83.

Best Powertrio ever! Rush was a band of three great friends, three great musicians who came together and we had the pleasure of being able to listen and watch them play.
Rush was a trio. Geddy Lee was the singer/frontman, keyboard player and bassist. In that video, they filmed him playing bass, and once that track was recorded they filmed him playing keyboard. Him singing was filmed after they had the music. For the video, they spliced different time periods together. He sang while sitting on a stool in front of the drum kit, and you can see that Niel Peart, the drummer, is not there.
Things to know about Rush..Geddy Lee, the bass player, also plays the keyboard and when he is on the keys and you still hear bass, he is playing a bass pedal with his feet. If you go back and look at the video, you can see his feet playing parts. Theyre one band who plays 99% of their music live and not with pre recorded tracks. Not all songs but most. If hes playing bass and you hear keyboard..hes doing that with the Taurus foot pedals. These guys are so underrated, you could easily dedicate your channel to reacting to Rush, and never get tired of their music. Tom Sawyer is one of maybe 75 amazing songs. Check out Camera Eye, Losing It, Spririt of Radio, Natural Science, Available Light, The Pass, Entre Nous, Witch Hunt...just check them all out, you wont be disappointed 😁

Welcome to Rush! I first "discovered" them at 14 in 1976, and a year later, went to my first rock concert, Rush's "A Farewell to Kings" tour. Over the years, I've lost count, but I believe that I saw they play live between 20 and 25 times. They rarely had radio air play, but they had a hard core fanbase of musicians that expanded over the years. In high school, I participated in a "Battle of the Bands" and all 4 bands playing there that night played Rush's "Working Man," a song that put them on the map in the USA. As you noticed, they were consummate musicians, each a master of their instruments. The late Neil Peart, who was already considered one of the best rock drummers in the world, decided he was disappointed at the way he played at a tribute to jazz great Buddy Rich, so he found a teacher and began taking lessons! He actually changed his playing style, which is why pretty much any modern drummer called him "The Professor." Neil was also the main lyricist for Rush as well! The bass player/keyboardist/vocalist Geddy Lee is generally considered to be one of the greatest rock bassists in history. Guitarist Alex Leifson is a mind-mindbogglingly incredible guitarist, who seems to be left off a lot of lists of favorite guitarists, EXCEPT when those voting are musicians. These guys played together for 40 years and their concerts were LEGENDARY! They put every bit of themselves into their concerts, and the crowds left with huge smiles on their faces, and were pretty much exhausted from their performances. Thank goodness they recorded many of their later concerts, they were absolutely incredible live! While Tom Sawyer is their best introductory song, another great song of their, "Spirit of Radio" and check out the studio version with the animated video before checking out the live version. The animated video is a wonderful tribute to Neil, who died of brain cancer in 2020.
Just an amazing band. Neil Peart (the drummer) passed away a few years ago, but he was known as one of the all time best drummers, and, he wrote most of the songs (lyrics and music). He truly was a musical god. Geddy Lee, is an AMAZING bass player, AND keyboard player, and his voice, I loved it the first time I heard it in the 1970s. Alex Lifeson is a fantastic guitarist, he really brings the trio together. I’ve been a huge fan since the late 1970’s, they truly are the most talented trio ever in my opinion. So many great songs. They are from Canada by the way, I’m sure you saw the snowy scene outside their studio at the end.

Hello from the UK. I'm 60, and have been listening to Rush since I was 11. Maybe The Spirit of Radio next? There is an animated video for that. Much as I love 2112, it is a live version on TH-cam I believe, but it is 20 minutes long. My personal favourite is Xanadu, there are also live versions of this, but again, I think that you would find The Spirit of Radio more accessible. I'm sure plenty of other people that can help with the band bio

Incredible band. World-Class musicians. Over 40 years as recording band (longer than that as a band) and members of R&R Hall of Fame, as of 2013. Please check out the lyrics. The drummer is the main lyricist and he also has several books in publication. Neil Peart passed away in 2020, RIP. He was a master drummer and such an intellect and creative juggernaut. So is Geddy Lee, the bassist/keyboardist/singer. Yes, he did multiple jobs on stage, with the added work of footpedal-keyboards/synthesizer effects (yes, singing, bass & keys with hands and feet, at the same time). Alex Lifeson is the incredible guitarist for Rush. You will be blown away by what you will hear, see, and read with this band. This is a Rabbit Hole and you have begun the journey! Welcome to the band! The next song you should check out is called "Limelight". It's from the same record as Tom Sawyer and the video they did is also with them in the studio. I saw them live in 1986. As a drummer it was like a pilgrimage to Mecca for me. Neil Peart (the drummer) was consider one of the greatest in rock history and my personal hero. Unfortunately we lost Neil in 2020. R.I.P. Professor.
"Living in the Limelight" has arguably the best bass line in rock history. "Free will" is another Rush masterpiece

Rush has been an ever-present band throughout my life (the first album I ever bought was "Caress of Steel" when it was released). They were the sound track of my high school years and I saw them 5 times during the mid to late 70's. Nobody rocked harder than Rush back then
Rush is one of the few bands where their music compositions are the highest quality, their lyrics are thought provoking and meaningful, and their musicianship is leaps & bounds above the rest. A song that showcases all of the above is Xanadu (pronounced zan-a-du). The song is based on a poem titled "Kubla Kahn", by Samuel T Coleridge. It's about a mythical paradise called Xanadu. You will be thoroughly impressed with the level of talent these three men possess. Another song I think you will love is "Losing It" from their Signals album released in 1982. The lyrics are pure poetry. Another is "Entre Nous". This song is about relationships and how each person perceives the other. A RUSH style love song, if you will. There are many hits that people will suggest. They're all great and deserve a listen, but after watching you react to Pink Floyd and others, I can see the emotion you bring to thought provoking reactions. Love your channel! You're a beautiful soul.

Alex Lifeson is the amazing guitarist, he also plays keyboard pedals. Peart writes the songs, then Lifeson and Lee write the music to go with it. They also play a few songs that are purely instrumental. (At one point Peart declined to write another song until Lee and Lifeson composed another instrumental).
