    They sequestered themselves in a cabin in 1981, making Limelight there, and more.
    Most agree that the drummer, Neal Peart, is also a great lyricist and one of the best drummers ever. Alex Lifeson, the lead guitarist, is vastly underrated. Geddy Lee, bassist, keyboardist, lead vocalist, can play with anybody.
    Rush is the gold standard for Canadian Rock, and respected worldwide. Their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was YEARS overdue.

    That stuck with me.
    And I was privileged enough to see them live on their Clockwork Angels tour in Dallas, TX.

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even when Rush songs are about very sad, upsetting subjects (for instance, _Red Sector A),_ they seem to always make it more reflective, contemplative in its emotion instead of just depressing.

    • @Vnachi8
      @Vnachi8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ookamino, Subdivisions is another example of that as well. Whereas a Pearl Jam attacked the same subject in Jeremy or P.O.D. in Youth Of A Nation, they did so in a very in your face, depressing way. Rush, in contrast, addressed it an a very poetic manner. Not lessening it’s impact, but turning it from blunt to art.

    They retired. They were on the road for 40 years. Two of the guys would probably keep playing. The drummer is really the guy who pulled the plug. He lost his wife and child in a horrible accident and spent a year driving his motorcycle around Canada,Mexico and the USA. You should read the book that deals with that journey.

    This was shot at the same studio where they recorded the album, Le Studio, outside Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada, which is fairly remote. The studio is sadly closed and abandoned now, but in its heyday a lot of classic albums got made there. Rumor has it that Steven Page, formerly of Barenaked Ladies, owns the mixing console now. The place had cabins on the grounds for the artists and crew to stay at, with cross country skiing in the winter and other outdoor things to do in the summer. Neil Peart, the drummer, has written often and fondly of the band's days spent recording several albums there. They were big believers in "getting away" to work, as you say, isolating themselves to focus on creating. Rural settings were quite agreeable to them.
    You should check out their "Limelight" and "Vital Signs" videos, both from the same album as "Tom Sawyer," and both shot at Le Studio, as well.

    The reason they retired a few years ago was only because Neil Peart has physcial health issues that prevent him from playing Rush material, which requires a different level of physical fitness! Neil himself said if he were playing Charlie Watts drums keeping the beat for the Rolling Stones, he could play forever! lol Peart has not just retired from the band, but retired from drumming altogether! I have no doubt though, that we will hear new material from Geddy and Alex in the future. Alex also has some arthritis he deals with but he can still do it!

      I recall Alex also mentioning in some article or interview that he was tired of being in a band at this point. Geddy has said of himself that he's not done, and even if it's not with Rush, he plans to keep making music.

    If you pay attention the driving factor in all of their transitions is the drums. That's why it seems so seamless and amazing. ❤️ Rush

    "You go somewhere and let you mind be free." That's exactly what their song test for echo is about.

    The song that single handedly got me interested in other forms of music other than metal.
    RIP Mr. Peart 🙏

    I feel you're very honest in your reviews and I've enjoyed watching you discover rock. Not only do you appreciate the "voice" of a group... The instruments too. Fun watching a true music lover dig into music you've never known.

      @@jamelakajamal that's amazing...truly. I'm a little different. I've listened to everything from folk music to rap and everything in between. And what you're discovering like I did is... Everyone has something pretty deep or meaningful to say. It's just that they pick different platforms to do it. If you love music... You'll "get it" no matter what you listen to. If you ever get the chance... Listen to Phish "Coconuts" (album version). You haven't listened to anyone like them I promise. But you'll get a huge response I guarantee! There's still "Phisheads" out there!
