Yes, one of the only enjoyable thing on screen, even if Palpatine's return doesn't make any sense in the story, Ian Mcdiarmid still does a fantastic job playing it.

Lack of foreshadowing, lack of purpose and worldbuilding, lack of a cohesive story and just lack of imagination... You can clearly see that Palpatine wasn't supposed to be the final antagonist of the sequels and was just a lazy solution to the Snoke problem. Besides, in a franchise like Star Wars when you can basically do whatever you want, free to create new concepts with almost no limits, it's kinda disappointing to use Palpatine as the ultimate bad guy ONCE AGAIN. He was the evil mastermind for 6 movies and his death in Return of the Jedi was the symbol of Vader's redemption, it's time to let this character go (and again, I love Palpatine and his actor). For a sequel trilogy post-empire, you have a lot of possibilities to explore, why not creating an entire new sith lord for example ? I guess that was the original plan for Snoke before Rian Johnson decided to kill him in The Last Jedi... Also, let's be honest, Legends was a freaking mess to follow and even if there was pretty good original stories, I also remember a lot of weird stuff who felt like fan-fictions haha.
I wish Rian Johnson had never taken over the middle movie. Then things would make more sense. I literally only watch the new trilogy for the visuals, acting and spectacle. I turn my brain off cause if I don't the sheer amount of plot holes drives me insane.
reptonplaya for me the bass was bigger when the destroyer was rising in the first exogol scene in the beginning of the movie. I had to cover my ears at that scene. Truly awesome

Bringing back the emperor was very smart. Unfortunately, the trilogy was fucked up by Rian Johnson so bringing him back in the final movie out of the blue did not feel organic at all

The fact that Palpatine's return is one of the best and worst things about the movie goes to show what a terrible job the writers did and what a wonderful job Ian McDiarmid did.

@@anonymousnguyen They really took the Emperor and just revived him. 1. This is the laziest, contrived and stupid writing mistake in the book. Some writers could make this work, they did not. 2. First Disney makes Legends non-canon, where Palpatine DID come back and then they do this. What’s the point of making Legends not canon, if you’re just gonna take all your ideas from it and reuse them anyway? 3. This completely nullifies Anakin’s sacrifice, nay, his entire arc. He didn’t defeat Palpatine, it barely even bothered him that he died. This also completely undoes Luke’s entire journey. He didn’t defeat the Sith at all. 4. This completely nullifies Rey’s arc as well, because, what is stopping Palpatine from just coming back again? That it would be stupid? Well so is this. At this point, Palpatine could pretty much be reduced to a Saturday Morning cartoon villain that just won’t stay down ever. What’s the point of making this guy so scary and making his eventual fall seem so monumental, when it can be undone so easily? He doesn’t feel like a serious threat anymore and just seems to rely on whatever Deus Ex Machina crap any new rider pulls out of their ass. At this rate they might as well introduce a God, actual Hell or time travel into Star Wars. They’ve fallen this far down the hole, why even try to get back out, when it is much quicker to just dive into the abyss…
Palpatine: Can use force lightning to disable 16,000 ships at once. Also Palpatine: Can't use the same force lightning to kill a girl with a lightsaber who's standing nine feet in front of him.
Force Storm is ridiculously powerful, so I imagine he wouldn't use in a target so close to his face, for the same reason no one would use a rocket launcher to kill some one 10 feet away. Force lighting is powerful, but, as with all Dark Side powers, it's harmful to the user. Back in Revenge of the Sith, when Windu use the saber as defence, the power bounced back and deformed him (Sidious). Since he's even more powerful now, the lighting didn't deform him. It BURNED him.

Ian McDiarmid is my favorite actor. He’s exceptional at everything he does. I’ve met him several times. He’s always a pleasure and a joy to talk to. I’ve seen him on Broadway too. Whether on film or in theatre, he’s a badass. I loved him as King Pellenor in Brittania.
That would have been much better, he was absolutely disgraced in this movie!! coming back from the dead just so that he could die at the hands of this desert leech called Rey, Atrocious story telling.

This scene is the only scene I remember from this movie, because I remember the sound so vividly. It was probably the funniest sound i could've expected, now if anyone brings up rise of skywalker, I simply think about this: the loudest fart in the galaxy.
I remember my friends and I sighing and rolling our eyes in the theaters throughout most of what happened during this movie. *BUT THEN* this happened and we kind of lost our collective shit. This was one of the few really cool things this trilogy did. It makes “unlimited power” look like charging a phone.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.... it doesnt work. making palps that powerfully OP cheapens him a good bit, if he could unleash that much power how did he get tossed down a hole by a quadriplegic, asthmatic, elderly burn victim covered in black leather and again by a tiny skinny chick who holds 2 sabers in an X shape? a lot of the time good writers and visual directors need to resist the urge to make cool scenes that contradict the story or makes someone unrealistically OP just to have a cool visual.... not sure if i am explaining this correctly tho, my only other example is... when luke confronts kylo and it turns out he never left the island but came as a force hologram, then dies while looking at the twin suns. ^ the death scene was beautiful... BUUUUUT that planet only had 1 sun, and doing all that just to have a cool scene completely ruins his sacrifice and cheapens the emotion it should of given us. how much better would if have been if finn and gang are about to get completely destroyed by the ATAT's and tie fighters and just before POE gets attacked, you see 3 tie fighters get destroyed in 1 shot (like rey did) but instead of rey flying the falcon... its luke in his X-wing showing his skills as a pilot compares or even rivals poe's, but the plan still fails and the mini death star beam breaks the door forcing luke to land his ship to check on leia, they have their scene and he goes outside like before... but this time luke is there physically and dies by kylo's hand and goes poof leaving only his clothes and cybernetic hand, green saber. that gives luke something to actually do in the film, and dies heroically to allow the rebels to escape while also giving an actual emotional moment.

You know, that's not even how lighting works! You can't shock something that's already been electrified so you can't shock the lightings source which in this case was you. What would have actually happened was the electricity would keep growing in power untill it bounced off you and back onto Rey. Sorry Disney but you don't understand basic laws of physics!

As ridiculous as it was bringing back Palpatine, I LOVED his presence in this movie. It shows you, more than any other movie, just how powerful Palpatine really was, and why he was feared by the entire galaxy. He could literally destroy an entire fleet all by himself. And to see him finally get revenge after being thrown down the pit by Vader was awesome.
THAT was only just a fraction of his true power! According to Wookiepedia, Palpatine could actually rip open the spacetime continuum and create wormholes!
Would Hendrix have made an appropriately shocking accompanist? He would be only too willing, to invite Palpatine to have a fling at smashing his guitar however he wanted too, I'd wager. Hell, since there was no longer any need for his life support contraption, that would have been a great surface to put the soon to be in pieces instrument, though its paces.
Y'know, for what it's worth, this scene was BADASS! Ian McDiarmid is a legend and the way he used force lightning was pretty accurate to how powerful he was in Legends. I didn't mind seeing him annihilate the Rebel forces like that lol. It's just the way he got defeated that sucked. Literally the same thing Mace did like come on. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...
In the theater my sister and I were shacking in our chairs trying to hold in our laughter after hearing that bass boost lightening. I couldn’t take this movie seriously after that
I think that this scene establishes Palpatine as being one of the most powerful cinematic characters of all time. There aren't many characters who can almost take down an entire fleet while in a weakened state and with little effort
If you wanna talk about power in cinematics than you obviously cant NOT mention some of the characters in the DC and Marvel cinematic universe lol . Superman , doomsday, professor x , magneto , JEAN GREY, apacolypse, Thanos .
This should have been the end of The Last Jedi. Palpatine revealing himself, the "death" of Kylo and the rebels being destroyed. "Nothing will stop the return of the Sith." Cut to black. Credits. (with palpatine theme and the sith chant)
Agreed, another movie to show Palpatine using the power he stole from Rey and Ben and the two of them coming together to destroy him would've been amazing. Instead, JJ cut it down to 5-10 minutes screen time LOL unreal.

It's amazing how there was literally anything left of the Resistance forces after that, given how Palpatine had a good solid minute of shorting out all their systems with his lightning. This should have been one of the costliest battles in terms of casualties in the whole franchise.
The only casualty seems to have been Nien Nunb and his co-pilot. Apparently that was deliberate too cuz the actor was told specifically his death was meant to be a "sacrifice". Sadge times.

Johnathon Davis Not only does he not have them anymore but he barely used them anyway and only did so to mock the jedi. He was incredibly powerful in the force and in combat so he just opted to use the force after the empire took over.
Two things made me uncontrollably laugh: 0:44 Kylo getting zapped by lightning after being chucked across the room into a pit 0:57 Palpatine literally dropping the bass

If he stayed with his original plan, Rey would never even of had the chance to strike him down so his spirit would pass into her because Kylo would of killed her (if Leia didn’t interfere with their battles).

I loved how Palpatine was finally shown at full power. Even though him being back completely messes up Anakin's chosen one arc, atleast we got to see Ian McDiarmid in this role again

The best part is when Ben saw his father. I thought it was really clever that it’s not clear if Ben was actually speaking to a (non force) spirit of Han or if it was his imagination. Either way, it was awesome.
Yeah, perhaps somebody should have told him that Ben was a Solo: son of Han Solo...and Leia Skywalker: the Skywalker that had NO hand in his direct downfall, AT ALL. That were Anakin 'Vader' Skywalker, and his son Luke. Ben Solo had absolutely no part in that, at all. That referance made nó sense at all! Completely idiotic referance!! Seriously, if Palpatine was THAT overpowered, why in all the galaxy's did he need a Fleet of Planetkillers? He said that line to Ben, because he is the last descendant of Anakin Skywalker, the guy who killed him. It makes sense why he said that line. The reason he didn't just go around blasting planets himself is that he was weak the entire time. His powers only just got restored due to Kylo and Reys Tridad pr whatever they called it.

Rey shoots lightning at ship destroys ship, emperor shoots OP lightning at lots of ships and not one blew up plus the ships should have immediately fell straight down to the grown and got destroyed since their not in space and they lost power to their ships. Plus not imperial ship was damaged from the lightning

The fact that Palpatine's return is one of the best and worst things about the movie goes to show what a terrible job the writers did and what a wonderful job Ian McDiarmid did.

1. This is the laziest, contrived and stupid writing mistake in the book. Some writers could make this work, they did not.
2. First Disney makes Legends non-canon, where Palpatine DID come back and then they do this. What’s the point of making Legends not canon, if you’re just gonna take all your ideas from it and reuse them anyway?
3. This completely nullifies Anakin’s sacrifice, nay, his entire arc. He didn’t defeat Palpatine, it barely even bothered him that he died. This also completely undoes Luke’s entire journey. He didn’t defeat the Sith at all.
4. This completely nullifies Rey’s arc as well, because, what is stopping Palpatine from just coming back again? That it would be stupid? Well so is this. At this point, Palpatine could pretty much be reduced to a Saturday Morning cartoon villain that just won’t stay down ever. What’s the point of making this guy so scary and making his eventual fall seem so monumental, when it can be undone so easily? He doesn’t feel like a serious threat anymore and just seems to rely on whatever Deus Ex Machina crap any new rider pulls out of their ass.
At this rate they might as well introduce a God, actual Hell or time travel into Star Wars. They’ve fallen this far down the hole, why even try to get back out, when it is much quicker to just dive into the abyss…

The ability to destroy a fleet is insignificant next to the power of the Mary Sue.

Force Storm is ridiculously powerful, so I imagine he wouldn't use in a target so close to his face, for the same reason no one would use a rocket launcher to kill some one 10 feet away. Force lighting is powerful, but, as with all Dark Side powers, it's harmful to the user. Back in Revenge of the Sith, when Windu use the saber as defence, the power bounced back and deformed him (Sidious). Since he's even more powerful now, the lighting didn't deform him. It BURNED him.

I remember my friends and I sighing and rolling our eyes in the theaters throughout most of what happened during this movie. *BUT THEN* this happened and we kind of lost our collective shit. This was one of the few really cool things this trilogy did. It makes “unlimited power” look like charging a phone.

BUUUUUT that planet only had 1 sun, and doing all that just to have a cool scene completely ruins his sacrifice and cheapens the emotion it should of given us. how much better would if have been if finn and gang are about to get completely destroyed by the ATAT's and tie fighters and just before POE gets attacked, you see 3 tie fighters get destroyed in 1 shot (like rey did) but instead of rey flying the falcon... its luke in his X-wing showing his skills as a pilot compares or even rivals poe's, but the plan still fails and the mini death star beam breaks the door forcing luke to land his ship to check on leia, they have their scene and he goes outside like before... but this time luke is there physically and dies by kylo's hand and goes poof leaving only his clothes and cybernetic hand, green saber.
that gives luke something to actually do in the film, and dies heroically to allow the rebels to escape while also giving an actual emotional moment.

As ridiculous as it was bringing back Palpatine, I LOVED his presence in this movie. It shows you, more than any other movie, just how powerful Palpatine really was, and why he was feared by the entire galaxy. He could literally destroy an entire fleet all by himself. And to see him finally get revenge after being thrown down the pit by Vader was awesome.

I think that this scene establishes Palpatine as being one of the most powerful cinematic characters of all time. There aren't many characters who can almost take down an entire fleet while in a weakened state and with little effort

It's amazing how there was literally anything left of the Resistance forces after that, given how Palpatine had a good solid minute of shorting out all their systems with his lightning. This should have been one of the costliest battles in terms of casualties in the whole franchise.
The only casualty seems to have been Nien Nunb and his co-pilot. Apparently that was deliberate too cuz the actor was told specifically his death was meant to be a "sacrifice".

He said that line to Ben, because he is the last descendant of Anakin Skywalker, the guy who killed him. It makes sense why he said that line. The reason he didn't just go around blasting planets himself is that he was weak the entire time. His powers only just got restored due to Kylo and Reys Tridad pr whatever they called it.

I could *feel* the force lightning vibrating through the theater when this happened. Ian McDiarmid’s cackle added so much to this scene, and it felt like he was laughing at us while he shook our seats.

fbi10 wasn’t logical at all from watching Star Wars movies and shows. Rey shoots lightning at ship destroys ship, emperor shoots OP lightning at lots of ships and not one blew up plus the ships should have immediately fell straight down to the grown and got destroyed since their not in space and they lost power to their ships. Plus not imperial ship was damaged from the lightning

The force used in this movie alone was bs at it’s finest and literally ruins moments of characters dying to fatal wounds that could have been easily healed by the force, or so to speak Vader could have healed his body parts back like the emperor did.
