I rode Piraten in a variety of weather conditions during my visit to Djurs Sommerland. When I got there, it was cloudy and drizzling. The ride was not running very fast, and I was a bit underwhelmed after my first ride. Later, the sun had come out and the temperature increased, causing Piraten to run a notch faster. I enjoyed it much more and those first two large hills delivered some pretty solid airtime. It’s a very temperamental coaster, but I hope it’s running faster the next time you visit
At first, I thought it ran slow on your visit, but after this video, it actually sounds like you experienced the normal Piraten. The cons make a lot of sense and are pretty general for the ride, as are the pros. You put it very well into perspective!
Piraten is definitely slow in the morning or on cold days, but in the afternoone on a decently tempered or hot day I find it to be flying through the layout. When that happens the drop and camelback are great. All the times I've ridden Piraten, (which is quite a few times) the big twisted hill never really did anything and is my biggest con of the ride.
I rode a megalite (Kawasemi) this past summer for the first time and I thought it was fantastic. Hard to think of another coaster that packs so much intensity and airtime in such a small footprint.
Congrats on 600! Glad to see you feeling the same way I did- which is that megalites are great little coasters. We got on 2 of these clones on VERY HOT days and even at the max, neither my wife or I felt that they competed with a proper hypercoaster. I think the exotic factor played a huge part in this being some sort of thoosie holy grail- but the fact is that it's not a top coaster and there's nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong with it landing in the top 5 when it opened. It's just not that awesome.
I wonder if someone there that day filmed a POV… then we could time it against other POVs of the ride, to see if it was running slow. Those twisted hills look crazy nonetheless.

Congrats on 600, its really great that the let you get so close to the coaster when its not operating for the photo's. I am really coming round to your theory on the restraints. A good or bad one can really make a ride. Just like how the ride ops are in terms of staple v no staple. I still think layout is important but ive been on the same ride and its gone from great to this is painful (old vekoma v new vekoma vests are probably a good example of this. )
It's sad to hear you didn't experience the ride at its best. I'm a native to Denmark and actually went on a trip to both Djurs and Fårup during the same week. I had a bit more flexibility though so I postponed my visit to Djurs from Wednesday go Thursday and my Fårup visit from Tuesday to Friday. But yeah Hans was awful. It's the kind of storm we usually only get during October and November, but climate change has made storms like these less predictable and more intense around these parts.
You should do a prime ride time video for a classic manufacturer like Arrow or PTC, be interesting to see a comparison on the pacing of those older designs

This sounds very similar to my experience with Lech Coaster. I visited Legendia at the very end of October 2019, the day was cold, foggy, few drops of rain and including myself only 5 visitors when the gates opened (though a good few more people arrived about 2 hours later) and the most people on a given train that I rode on where 6, most of the time I was marathoning it all by myself. I could just switch seats between rides whenever I wanted. As fun as that sounds, you can imagine that the ride was running slow that day. While it added a bit of Hangtime on the Inversions, and it was a overall fun ride, I just didn´t experience the high intensity everyone is talking about for Lech.
Would love to see a by the numbers video for your landmark coasters. Maybe it could be 12 if you went up by 50 credits each time if 6 coasters would be too short.
I rode piraten last year in summer, the weather also wasn‘t perfect as it rained a lot. this ride has some floater moments, but that camelback definitely wasn’t one of them when I rode. I got decently sustained ejector in every row. really strange that this element didn’t deliver when you rode it.
This is a ride that definitely needs full trains and time to warm up. I had issues with the latter when I rode Kawasemi, but I don't think you had these issues based on your video footage.
Piraten sits comfortably in my Top 20. I rode it one a colder and on a warmer day, and the difference was certainly there. But when it’s running at its best, it is up there with Expedition GeForce and close to RMCs. I also don’t mind the lap bars at all. I think they’re great
Even tho I have ridden Piraten over 100 times i have never ridden Piraten in bad weather, so i cant say anything about it running slower. But so bad you rode it on a bad day😢 it is definetly awesome on a hot summer day!
I never understand the comments about no airtime on i305? Every time I ride 305 I get airtime on all the camel backs - not as much on the one with the trims though.
I like restraints that come down on my thighs so much more then my stomach because I’m a transplant patient and it’s painful when it’s on my scars on my stomach. That’s why Rip Ride Rocket is so painful for me.
Is that your footage around 6 minutes? There’s your answer - the lift was slowing down to a crawl at the top. Normally it maintains speed there. For me this is one of the best steel coasters in Europe as long as that lift is running fast ver the top.
Comparing this to other off-ride footage I've seen from megalites, it seems like it was going pretty slow over those first couple airtime thrills. Could be it loses a lot of momentum in that first turn when it's cold and/or wet.
Piraten is a while ago, I especially remember greying out on the helix. But I recently rode Alpina Blitz (the mack version of this ride) and I think the airtime was pretty good and I enjoyed the ride. But compared to other coasters this layout is average.
I loved Alpina Blitz in France which is the Mack version of these. I think it’s better. Also I found that these coasters need a lot of time to warm up to feel the airtime. My end of the day rides where awesome in the back row

Too bad the rain ruined your experience on this, this coaster deserved better on a sunny day, as this coaster looks amazing, congrats on your 600th though, not a bad choice.
While it looks pretty disappointing compared to expectations, and it was a rainy day, this could be a good supporting coaster if the park got some new additions.
It’s known to be very dependent on weather, time of day, and train weight and that is also why it’s sister coasters aren’t getting a lot of praise. I was there a couple of days ago (a pretty cold day) and the first ride I got was about 2 or 3 hours before closing it wasn’t anything special and then I got two rides in one on the third last train and one on the last and it was a night and day difference. I feel the same with dæmonen wich i just came from it really picks up pace at the end of the night and it is then it shines I have gotten some seriously fast rides at night on that thing just like the one today.

Even with the rain and wind on our day Piraten is still a top 25 ride for me. Intamin perfection.

Its definetly running slower because the drop normaly pulls you out of your seat. Same with the twisted hill and the bunny hill.

Yeah i think for me restraints are a much bigger deal than for most people, I just hate unnecessary restraints

It's kinda weird we never got any Mega Lites in the US. You'd think 2000s Six Flags would have got a couple for the small parks.

Nope it was definitely warmed up and with full trains. It was just like 50 degrees and gusty

i think it sucks how you got to ride piraten on a rainy day (and hot days are always 10x better for speed)
you should rank your most notable creds like 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, 100th, 200th etc

It would help the drag over the hills but it may make those snappy elements slower...so a trade off
